Whether we remember our own school years or our children’s, there is always that special teacher that stands out above the rest. Here at Southwind Senior Living, we have five of our favorites that we would like to give special recognition to. Cupcakes & Countries Residents at SWSL enjoyed making a variety of cupcakes as part of the ElderFit Activity Program. Each cupcake was topped with flags of different countries. Everyone had fun guessing which country belonged to which flag. The most fun part, however, was sampling each flavor! God’s Seed of Greatness SWSL residents participated in some indoor gardening. In a couple months we will be able to enjoy fresh basil, cilantro, and dill. Yum! Arts & Crafts This summer residents brought a little of the beach to SWSL. We had the pleasure of arranging and painting seashells on wooden crosses. Everyone’s art projects turned out beautiful! The Southwind Breeze Page 4 Cheep Cheep & Chirp Chirp Recently SWSL became a duck sanctuary. Staff Maria Young and Jill Signorelli, along with her daughter Blaire, rescued two struggling baby ducks from the Southwind pond. After a little TLC the baby ducks, named “Cheep Cheep” and “Chirp Chirp” were healthy enough for the residents to play with. Jute Basket Making Residents practiced their skill of basket making as part of the ElderFit Activity Program. They were painted a variety of colors and then carefully woven with beads. SWSL’s 6th Annual Cooking Contest FAMILY/FRIEND NIGHT Thursday, September 11th 5:30 PM Bring your favorite side dish, main dish, and/or dessert! Prizes awarded to the winners! Congratulations! Activity Director, Jill Villejoin welcomed a baby girl, Ava st Jacqueline, on May 31 , 2014. Ava was 8lb 7oz and 21 ½ inches long! Congratulations Jill! (Ava is wearing a handmade bonnet by SWSL resident Cecilia Zaunbrecher.) The Southwind Breeze Page 5 What are ElderFit Activities? The covered driveway is for picking up and dropping off ONLY! Please DO NOT leave your vehicle unattended at any time. Emergency vehicles need access to this fire lane at all times. Thank you for your cooperation. Any resident in need of transportation for doctor’s appointments, please give your information to the Activity Department a MINIMUM OF ONE WEEK before the appointment. SWAL would like to remind guests smoking is prohibited on the front porch and to please kindly discard cigarette butts in a safe manner and not on the ground. Thank you for your cooperation. Transportation Change Reminder: Starting Thursday, May 1st, shopping transportation will have a new schedule. On Mondays, the bus will leave SWAL at 1 PM for Wal-Mart and other errands. At 1:45 PM the bus will leave Wal-Mart to bring home the residents finished with errands. All other residents will be picked up from their errands at 2:45 PM. On Thursdays, the bus will leave SWAL at 10 AM and all residents must be back on the bus by 10:45 AM. In summary, if you have extended errands, such as nail appointments, need a longer time shopping, going somewhere other than Wal-Mart, or have more than one errand, plan to use Monday transportation starting at 1 PM. Thursday transportation is for a quick trip to Wal-Mart. Please see Jill Villejoin with any questions.
