We have sent home a letter giving full details regarding lunch arrangements and collecting children. We have asked that parents meet their child at the New Hall at 3.00pm on this day. However, they are welcome to attend, free of charge, but must be accompanied by a paying adult. Please meet us at the New Hall. KS2 Summer Production Arrangements 09.07-13.07.12 Olympic Week 12.07.12 Sports Day 1—3pm Happy Birthday this week to: KS1 & FS watch the KS2 Production Relationships and Sex Education All children in years 4, 5 and 6 should have brought home a letter about their forthcoming Relationships and Sex Education lessons. Parents can withdraw their child, if they wish, from these lessons, which form part of the PSHE curriculum, by returning the slip on the bottom of the letter. Year 6 Transition All year 6 children should have brought home a letter from Tiverton High School regarding their two sample days. This gives parents full details of timings, lunch requirements and equipment needed. Next Thursday we will be performing our school production “What a Knight” at the New Hall. All children in Key stage 2 will require a packed lunch (as they will be at the New Hall most of the day), along with a snack and plenty to drink. If your child is entitled to free school meals and would like a packed lunch provided, please indicate on the slip at the bottom of the separate letter and return it to the school office as soon as possible. The matinee performance starts at 1.00pm with doors opening at 12.45. We are asking parents to collect their children from the New Hall at 3.00pm. If it is impossible for you to do this, please indicate on the slip . If your child attends Park Hill, we will walk them back to school, but would be grateful if you could inform Park Hill that they will be late. The evening performance starts at 7.00 with doors opening at 6.45. We would ask that all main part actors be there at 6.15 and all chorus parts arrive for 6.30. Please collect your child promptly at 9.00 from outside the New Hall. Costumes. Unless your child has been told otherwise all children should have black trousers or leggings/tights and a black t-shirt. All this information and appropriate reply slips is also on a separate letter . Dragons in School Damage at Sunningmead Mr Cossey very kindly brought Pebbles and Bam-Bam, the Bearded Dragons, into school on Thursday. All the children had the opportunity to handle them and ask questions. It has to be said most of the children were considerably braver than the staff when it came to holding them. Martyn Stevens, Community Support Officer, came into school yesterday to talk to the children about some criminal damage at Sunningmead. Sadly some of our children have been identified as being involved, with others who do not attend Wilcombe, through CCTV footage. We will be looking at the footage once it has been enhanced in order to inform those parents who have not already been made aware by the police . The damage included broken goals, benches and damage to the amphitheatre. Sunningmead do not have the funds to replace them. Message from the Leadership Team Lunch Menus All children regularly bring home lunch menus for a three week period. If your child has school meals we would be grateful if you could return them promptly. This enables us to advise the cook of future numbers. It is also an opportunity for your child to select what they would like for lunch on a daily basis. We advise the cook of vegetarian and jacket potato options by compiling a list. If your child is not on this list they will receive the meat option. Unfortunately, we do not have the budget to run a cafeteria system enabling children to choose on the day. Lunchtime Behaviour We have had an issue since the half term holiday with the behaviour of some children at lunchtime. In a school of 180 children it only involves about 10 children so is a small issue in the grand scheme of things but very upsetting for those involved. A few older children have been telling others, often younger, children to do unkind or inappropriate things to other children leading to upset all around. We told the whole school yesterday that this is completely unacceptable and that this behaviour will result in instant yellow cards. We will be continuing to inform parents if their child has been involved in this. We are extremely proud of the behaviour at Wilcombe. We are regularly complemented on our children by visitors to our school and whenever we attend events outside of school. Our children are commended for being polite, well–mannered and considerate. The number of children receiving red cards in school has dropped considerably over the last few years and the atmosphere in school is positive, warm and caring. This means we are very disappointed with the handful of children that are letting themselves and the school down by making silly choices about their behaviour. We have told them that it stops now. However, it is important that the thoughtless behaviour of a real minority does not reflect badly on the rest of our children who are following all of our Golden Values everyday and are a real credit to themselves the school and their families and make Wilcombe such a fabulous place to be.
