President & CEO
ach quarter, I consider it an honor to share my thoughts with you. With each
word I hope to provide insight and encouragement to help you (whether a
resident, volunteer, or a supporter) remain connected to The Glen.
The mission of The Glen Retirement System is to enrich the lives of older people
through housing, healthcare and services. This mission is accomplished by dedicated
community volunteers and compassionate professionals with commitment, vision
and leadership. Spring is the perfect time to reflect on our mission and express
appreciation to those who help us accomplish the goal.
We welcome four new members to our Board of Directors. Each brings an area of
expertise to our Board, and we are fortunate to have them serve. They will seek to
govern with the best interest of the residents keeping in mind the mission of The
Glen.
Lydia Earhart joined The
Glen in April as our Director
of Marketing and Community
Relations. Lydia brings a wealth
of knowledge from her career in
the media industry. Her passion is to
tell stories and within the coming months, she will begin to share our stories at The
Glen.
In slightly more than two months, we have had a lot of news to share. Included in
this issue of The Glenviews is just some of what has happened recently at The Glen.
In addition to these stories we share with you, I encourage you to reach out to Lydia
and meet her. Help her to learn more about you and how you are connected to The
Glen. Insight is valuable in the marketing roles, and we are including you in our
mission to help progress in this area.
“
Spring is the perfect time to
reflect on our mission and express
appreciation to those who help us
accomplish the goal.
”
BRIEFLY:
Grayson Foundation Grant
Thank you to the Grayson Foundation for their grant to fund acoustical panels in the auditorium and
Village Health Care households. The panels were installed in late April and are meant to absorb sound and
echoing in the auditorium and the household living rooms. Already residents and staff are commenting on
the positive difference in the sound.

The Glen goes Western
I
n conjunction with the Older
Americans Month’s theme “Blaze
a Trail” and Give for Good Day, The
Glen hosted a Western-themed day,
May 3, for residents.
“We were excited to host yet
another event where residents of
The Glen could enjoy a fun and
casual day to support our mission
as a nonprofit,” President and CEO
4
Debra Williams said. “This day was
equally in part to engage residents
and help build an awareness of the
quality of life that The Glen provides
to the seniors in our community.”
After breakfast, a photo booth
with Western accessories was set up
for residents to take a picture and
get into the Western theme.
During lunch, the staff invited
residents to a cookout. Grilled
hamburgers and sausage, along with
plenty of delicious side items, were
served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
At 2 p.m. residents participated in
“Blaze a Trail” painting. Former Life
Enrichment associate Brenda Snider
taught a painting class for residents
to create a desert theme work of art
on a canvas.

T

bright light for her family and community, although she
never sought the limelight. In fact, she shunned notoriety.

WHITE
from 1985-90. She was the board president in 1987. The Glen
will always be grateful to Sara Margaret for her time, energy and commitment
