Financial Assistance
Membership Hold
The Burlington Area YMCA welcomes all who wish to
participate and annually raises scholarship funds to
help make that possible. Contact the member service
desk if you would like to inquire about financial
assistance.
4
Members may place their membership on
hold for a maximum of 3 consecutive months
during the calendar year. Reasons for
membership hold include medical and “snow
birds”. All holds must be approved by the
Membership & Marketing director.
MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
For your convenience the Y offers three types
of membership payment plans: Bank Draft,
Full Annual Payment, and monthly payment.
Monthly payments are due on the 1st of
each month. There is a $10 late fee added if
payment is not made by the 10th.
BANK DRAFT: Bank draft is an automatic
monthly withdrawal from your checking,
savings, or Credit Card account. We will
need to scan a check or card for the first
month’s payment to begin. This plan is
perpetual, which means once started it runs
continuously until you decide to stop. To
terminate or change a Bank Draft membership
see the Cancellation Policy. There is a $25
NSF fee added to accounts where payment
is returned.
FULL PAYMENT: Full Annual Payment is paid
upon purchasing or renewing a membership
by cash, check or credit card.
A $50 Enrollment Fee is charged at the time of sign
up for adult, senior and household memberships and
$25 for college memberships. Your enrollment fee
goes toward building and equipment maintenance.
This fee is non-refundable.
Now, full facility YMCA members have the flexibility to use other Y facilities throughout the state
of Iowa, at no extra charge. Simply present your active YMCA membership card and photo ID at
any participating YMCA and enjoy free access! All Iowa Y members will be asked to sign a waiver.

The YMCA has been selected to offer the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA physical activity and well-being
program that addresses the special wants, needs and interests of cancer survivors. LIVESTRONG
at the YMCA is the result of a multi-year partnership between YMCA of the USA and LIVESTRONG.
These programs are designed to assist cancer survivors through their journey beginning at the
time of diagnosis. The YMCA is committed to enhancing the quality of life for cancer survivors by
helping them regain control of their health and well being during the following treatment.
“The thing I took away from LIVESTRONG was meeting the great people, both the trainers
and the friends I met. I have met two very good friends from the group. We meet for dinner once
a month and it gives us someone to talk to after going through the same thing.” - LIVESTRONG

Mobility & Stability Performance Testing
The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a grading system that assesses basic movement
patterns. By screening these pattern, the FMS readily identifies your functional limitations
and asymmetries. These are issues that can reduce your athletic potential and increase risk of
injury.
The test is comprised of 7 fundamental patterns that require a balance of mobility and stability.
The FMS generates a score, which is used to target problems and track your progress. This
scoring system is directly linked to the most beneficial corrective exercises to ensure healthy
functional movement.
You will be screened, given a FMS score and provided personal instruction on corrective
exercises relevant to your functional movement score.

WATER FITNESS CLASSES
Water fitness classes can benefit individuals who
are just starting to exercise, as well as those who
would like a more intense workout (each person
exercises at his/her own pace). Water exercises put
less stress on joints than land exercises because the
effects of gravity are minimized. Working against
water resistance improves muscle strength and tone
and cardio respiratory endurance. Swimming skills
are not needed for participation.
Special Groups
Large groups that consistently come to the pool must
be arranged with the Aquatic Director in advance.
Shallow-Water Workout
This full-body workout is a combination of cardio
respiratory endurance, muscle conditioning, and
interval training. You do not need to put your head

SHRIMP - Age: 6 - 8 months. This is an
introduction to the aquatic environment
for parents and their infants. Parents
are encouraged to develop appropriate
expectations for their children’s performance
in the water. They learn basic aquatic safety
and have a positive experience with their
child that helps them bond.
KIPPER - Age: 9 - 12 months. This level
continues to provide positive aquatic
experiences for parents and infants. The
infants learn basic skills and have fun
playing with toys and flotation devices.
Parents review and learn more about basic
aquatic safety.
INIA - Age: 13 - 23 months. Children
do more independent exploration of the
aquatic environment with help from their
parents. The parents again review and
learn additional information about aquatic
safety. The program provides opportunities
for parent/child teams to socialize with
each other.
PERCH - Age: 24 - 36 months. Children
start moving more independently through
the water under their parents’ guidance.
Parents learn more about aquatic and
boating safety, and children begin to learn
something about these topics as well. At this
point the instructor begins to prepare the
children to work directly with an instructor
on their own.

Offering you a safe place.
319-754-8664 or 319-752-0606
Our mission has remained constant over the past 30 years - to
ensure a safe haven for women and children who need protection
from violence. Our goal is to continue what we have become
known for - to provide comfort and support in a safe shelter.
The women and children who arrive at our Shelter have needs as
varied as their circumstances. We offer them a warm bed, food,
comfort and security as well as the opportunity for them to
become survivors of domestic violence.
Community support ensures the Domestic Violence Shelter can
continue to meet the needs of women and children seeking a safe
haven from domestic abuse. It is rarely by choice that women find
themselves residing at our shelter.
For information on how you can support the Domestic Violence Shelter,
