Summer 2013
PRESENTED BY PLAZA MOTORS, PARTIES IN THE PARK
KICKS OFF 30TH SEASON IN DOWNTOWN CLAYTON
C
rowds have been pouring onto Central Avenue in Downtown Clayton to celebrate the
30th season of Parties in the Park presented by Plaza Motors!
The Pulaski Bank Stage has been rockin’! Party band Griffin and the Gargoyles,
sponsored by Lathrop & Gage LLP, kept the crowd on its feet in May, and Whiskey
Morning, sponsored by Carmody MacDonald, wowed the attendees in June as friends
and colleagues gathered with loosened ties, sunglasses, ice-cold beer and cocktails.
“The 30th season of Parties in the Park is off to a great start!” said Laura McCarthy Jarman, President of Parties in the Park. “I
love the vibe at Parties, especially now that we are on the streets of Clayton. It is THE place to be after work in the summertime.”
A brand-new, double-decker bar has been a hit with party-goers, as well as the monthly signature cocktails..

home from school and activity levels on the rise! The summer
months are a particularly exciting time of year for the Clayton
Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is proud to organize a
Patrick Buehring
diverse collection of events throughout the summer, not to
mention the rest of the year, and we are very fortunate to receive support from so many
generous companies and talented individuals who make these programs successful.
Thank you.
Please join us at one or more of our events this year, including Parties in the Park
presented by Plaza Motors, which is once again hosted on the streets of Clayton to support
the Clayton Business District. There is also The Power Hour, Chamber Golf Outings, Clayton
Idol presented by HM, or one of the many ribbon cuttings for new or expanding Clayton
businesses or after hours events. If it’s travel you’re after, consider joining us on one of
two Chamber-hosted trips this year: Discover Cuba (7-night trip in October), or Berlin &
Prague (8-night trip in October)!
Thank you to all of the Board Members and Chamber Members who work diligently on the
committees and in various volunteer roles throughout the year. I want to especially thank
Ellen, Mary-Ellen, Trish and Mary for your constant focus and creativity. Your dedication
makes the membership experience so rewarding.
We are proud to see our Chamber Membership continue to grow and are always listening
for different ways that we can add more value to this organization. I welcome you to contact
me personally if you have feedback.
Enjoy your summer! Thank you for your continued participation and membership!

Dating back to the 1930’s, the building that is The Restaurant at The Cheshire has served as a gathering place
for people wanting to share a good time over a great

been restored and reinvented. After closing for nearly
two years and undergoing a massive, multi-million dollar renovation, the iconic building reopens as home to

Mayor’s Message
I
would like to take this opportunity to say how
honored I am to have been elected . . . elected by
the great
citizens of
Clayton for
whom
I have such
high regard.
The success
of Clayton
has always
been the
result of
collaborative efforts
of the citizens, the business community, the school district
and our great institutions. Throughout its history,
the individuals in these groups have been
responsible for guiding Clayton through its
transformations and keeping it on a
prosperous path.
Harold Sanger
Thinking back over the past 25 years and my
involvement in Clayton as Alderman, member
of the Board of Adjustment and Chairman of the
Plan Commission/Architectural Review Board, I
realize how many of these devoted individuals
were involved in what has become an important
part of the legacy of Clayton’s first 100 years. As
members of various committees and commissions, these individuals share their expertise and
commit an inordinate amount of their personal
time researching, reviewing and advising. Along
with our hardworking city staff, these dedicated
individuals have guided us through processes
that resulted in the Cross County Extension of
MetroLink, The Crescent, Centene Plaza, the
downtown master plan and The Center of Clayton,
to name just a few.
The Chamber has been an integral partner in
the success of Clayton, and I look forward to working with the members and staff of the Chamber to
continue this valued relationship.
Together, we will set the stage for Clayton’s
next 100 years and maintaining the city’s regional
leadership and national recognition.
From Page 1
“30 years is a major milestone for this event,” said Ellen Gale,
Executive Director of the Clayton Chamber of Commerce. “We are
thrilled to keep this Clayton tradition going. After 30 years it’s
better than ever!!”
