Taipei Confucius Temple
Confucianism is one of the most influential philosophical systems in Asia. Confucius, the great teacher and
philosopher who passed away in 479 B.C., is credited with having authored and edited many Chinese classic
texts. His philosophy forms the common basis of Chinese tradition, which influenced many Asian countries.
Temples built for his legacy can be found in Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, South Korea and neighbor Asian
countries.
Taipei Confucius Temple is the second Confucius Temple in Taiwan, built in 1884, originally located around
the Presidential Hall. It was then relocated to its current site in Dalongdong in 1925. Numerous Confucian
rituals were conducted here, including Confucius Ceremony every year on Teachers’ Day (September 28th)
and Yayue (traditional music and dance) Ceremony every Saturday.
Activities:
Yayue Ceremony is an ancient Chinese ritual ceremony for the royalty, a ceremony dated back to Zhou
dynasty (1045-256 BC), combining elegant dance and music. It was the official formal ceremony in Chinese
culture. Every Saturday morning in Taipei Confucius Temple, this historical ceremony will be reenacted.

Lin Liu-Hsin Puppet Theatre Museum
Lin Liu-Hsin Puppet Theatre Museum, formerly known as TTT Puppet Centre, was one of the most important
institutes to preserve and promote the culture of Taiwanese puppet theatre. With its two puppet theatre
troupes founded in 2005, the Museum sits in the historical buildings in Dadaocheng, one of the oldest
districts of Taipei and just a few steps from the Danshui Pier off historical Dihua Street. By providing in-depth
tour and state-of-the-art performance, the Museum aims not only to be an educational center for Asian
puppet culture, but also further to be an intersection of local and international puppet cultures.

Dadaocheng 大稻埕
Located by the intersection of Tamsui River and Hsintien River, Dadaocheng was the very first commercial
area in Taipei City. Until these days, it is still the place for people to purchase dried goods and snacks,
especially during Chinese New Year and look for Taiwanese traditional products for weddings, or other ritual
ceremonies. Nowadays, many historical buildings in this area are converted to small exhibition or
performance venues.
3
Activities:
Guided tour by the Dadaocheng-native. We will walk around the area and to experience the culture and
lifestyle.
Lungshan Temple
Lungshan Temple was founded in 1738 and dedicated to the Buddhist religion, although in the course of its
development many deities of Taoism were also included. The variety of deities in this temple shows the
tolerant mentality of Chinese culture. The temple now consists of three halls: the fore hall, the main hall and
the rear hall. Being a masterpiece of traditional Chinese architecture and a well-established Buddhist temple
in Taipei, the Lungshan Temple has become a center of religious and a heritage of local culture. Taipei City
government has assigned it as a second grade historical site in 1985, so that it will be preserved for future
generations.
