This class is a fun and informal approach to introduce the techniques of watercolor painting. It will be an
informative experience for the beginner and intermediate painter who has the desire for expression on

This workshop is for individuals with moderate ceramic experience or a self-directed adventurous spirit. A professional ceramic artist will
be available to guide students in using equipment as well as trouble shooting the creative and/or constructive process. Clay, glaze material,
storage space, and all studio equipment will be provided. Students will have the opportunity to explore low fire glazes, surfaces, and clay
bodies. Students must attend a studio orientation at the beginning of the session. Price includes materials and firings. Instructor: Barbara

This class is for beginning knitters of all ages. Whether a person has never knitted, or started knitting and has forgotten what was learned,
this is the place to start. Participants will knit a very easy hat, with the pattern, needles and yarn supplied. The instructor will discuss how to
read instructions, reading knitting, yarn selections and needle choices. Students will need to work on the hat outside of class time in order

Get started on that holiday knitting. The class project will be a Christmas stocking. Participants can easily complete one or two of these
stockings before Christmas. Students will choose motifs and colors, knitting on double pointed needles with fat yarn. Colorwork will be

Financial Peace University is a personal money-management class taught by Dave Ramsey on DVD, followed by an engaging
small group discussion. Participants will learn, laugh and maybe even cry a little as they work together to beat debt, and learn
basic money-management skills. This 13 week course will meet for two hours each week. The first hour will present the video
lesson and in the second hour an ECC host will facilitate small group discussion. It is in the small group discussion where genuine
behavior change takes place. The group members encourage one another to apply the principles they are learning. Together, the
group works through the seven Baby Steps needed to walk in financial peace. The objective of the small group is not to pry into
everyone’s business; it is simply to walk together as each family or individual learns and applies the principles. A spouse and any
teens living in the home may attend as one family unit for $99. Price includes all materials.

the major e-readers and their features, and help participants determine which one is right for their needs. Topics will include: basic
features of all e-readers, where to get free ebooks online, how to download and add them to a library, what software to use for Scenic
Regional library books, as well as how to buy and download (or share) ebooks. Students will practice using wifi, the e-reader, and computer
linking. Most e-readers also play music, so the instructor will discuss how to utilize that feature. Participants who already have an
e-reader should bring it (along with the computer cable). Those who haven’t made a purchase yet should come and see what they are

This course will discuss how to pick out the right camera and accessories and how to email pictures to friends and family. Students will
learn the best media for keeping pictures safe and where to store them. Whether the student already owns a camera, is looking to purchase
a new camera, or just wants to learn about new technology, this course will help assess equipment and storage options. On Saturday,
September 24, the class will take a two hour field trip through Washington to take pictures and save them to a CD. Instructor: D. Gibbs.

transaction on eBay. Next, they will learn how to sell an item on eBay, and how to deal with payments, records, and shipping. Other topics

Learn how to protect a computer from malicious software and downloads at this one night workshop. People don’t have to go to dangerous
sites to end up with a computer that is compromised. Any flash video or advertisement can infect a computer or compromise personal
data. Learn how to use virus and malware software to clean up the computer or prevent infections. Free antivirus, anti-spyware and firewall

campus in Union. Members will be introduced to a comprehensive fitness program focusing on improving the basic components of physical

College department of music. The mission of the Chorale is to promote musical literacy through high quality music education and to

chances for admittance into the college of their choice and possibly qualify for additional scholarships. During the course, students will
take two official retired full-length ACT tests and receive data reports identifying areas of strengths and weaknesses. Instructors review

exposed to ethics, problem solving, communication, customer service, business and report writing, file management, and interviewing. Through
the review of case studies and hands-on applications, students will reinforce lessons and learn to apply practical knowledge to everyday
situations. This program will give students the know-how to complete tasks and expose them to multiple resources available to enhance job

East Central College has entered an agreement with MTC Truck Driver Training School in Hazelwood to offer a four week Class A Commercial
Drivers License program. The non-credit program is designed for individuals with little or no commercial driving experience. Course includes
classroom training the first week and yard training the remaining three weeks. Financial assistance may be available through local Career
Centers to those who qualify.

Refund/Withdrawal Policy
When the Center for Workforce Development cancels a class, a 100% refund is provided. Students are to contact Center for Workforce
Development AT LEAST three business days prior to the start of a class to withdraw from a class, less a $20 withdrawal fee. Other programs

House Set for Sunday,
October 30
After more than 16 months of renovation work, the facility
currently known as the Administration Building on the ECC
campus in Union is open and ready to serve students as the
2011 fall semester gets underway.
To celebrate the completion of the project, the College is
planning an open house for Sunday, October 30 from 1:30 to
4 p.m. with a rededication ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Community
members are invited to attend that event and tour the facility which has been totally transformed to better serve students.
The building houses the library, learning center and six general classrooms. The project also created the college’s first onestop student services center, consolidating admissions, counseling, registration, financial aid and career services on one floor.
The initial demolition and abatement phase of the project was completed last summer. New energy efficient heating, cooling
and lighting equipment was installed. Many of the precast panels on the building were removed to accommodate new windows.
A new stair tower and entryways were created. Space was captured along the recessed window areas on the first floor and
aligned with the second story walls, increasing the size of the original facility to 61,166 square feet.
In addition to the building renovation, a new loop road to link the lower campus driveway to the road at the top of the hill was
built. Culvert pipes were installed at the bottom of the new road for storm water control and a 1/2 acre retention pond was built
near the campus entrance. The pond was deemed the best way to handle the water that will come off the newly constructed
road, as well as the 75 space parking lot built at the east end of the building.
“We’re excited to wrap up this project, and look forward to sharing this innovative facility with the students who will benefit
from its transformation as they start the fall semester,” noted ECC President Ed Jackson. “Students will have conveniently
located and easily accessible services, a wonderful library and learning center, new classrooms, and other learning spaces all
equipped with the latest technology,”
The Lawrence Group served as the project architects, and K & S Associates was the general contractor. Funding for the $9.8
million construction project came from proceeds remaining from the Prop RN bond issue approved by voters in 2006, as well
as existing fund balances. The Administration Building was the first facility constructed on the campus, with the first classes
held there in January of 1972.
“We hope community members, as well as former students and employees, will join us October 30,” Jackson stated. “I think
they’ll be amazed at the transformation.”
