Our mission is to promote quality of life by providing medical, emotional, spiritual, and
bereavement support to individuals and their loved ones facing a life-limiting illness.
About Us
Hospice of Frederick County was founded in 1980 by a group of community volunteers who
wished to offer compassionate support to terminally ill patients and their families, and to
those who were grieving.
Over the years, the program has grown in size and scope, but our focus remains the same: to
honor each person’s journey through illness or grief with dignified care, compassionate support
and gentle guidance. All donated dollars are used to assure the continued availability of hospice
and bereavement services in our community.
A proud affiliate of the Frederick Regional Health System, Hospice of Frederick County
is a Medicare-certified, not-for-profit organization licensed by the state of Maryland and
accredited by the Joint Commission. We are a member of the Hospice and Palliative Care
Network of Maryland, and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.
Our Volunteers
As a not-for-profit, community hospice, we rely heavily on trained volunteers to accomplish our
mission. Last year, 140 volunteers gave a total of 8,826 hours of their time, saving Hospice of
Frederick County more than $203,439. Hospice also held 25 educational sessions, 15 of which
were open to the community.

Dear Friends,
We view this Donor Report as our opportunity to pay tribute to you, our loyal donors.
Your support and belief in our mission helps ensure that the needs of our patients,
families, and community always come first.
This past year offered exciting growth and development. Patient admissions rose by
22 percent and we served over 700 in our bereavement program. The opportunity
to assist more people has been both challenging and a blessing. We responded by
adding more patient caregivers and offering more specialized support groups and
workshops. As always, while we are diligent in our approach to enhancing hospice
services, we remained committed to keeping overhead costs low to stay focused on
patients and families.
Our greater community is also a priority as we look for more ways to be an integrated
partner in Frederick County—working with schools, the police department, and local
businesses on a myriad of death and dying, grief education, and counseling issues.
None of this is possible without you—our faithful partners in Hospice of Frederick
County’s mission to help people face the end of life with comfort and grace.

Hospice of Frederick County has
gathered together a group of special
volunteers who share a common goal:
to safeguard the organization’s ability
to continue providing programs and
services to all who need them, without
regard for ability to pay.
This group of community leaders and
private philanthropists is dedicated
to encouraging the community’s
knowledge and support of Hospice
of Frederick County’s programs and
services through a variety of outreach
efforts.
Since its founding in 1980, Hospice
of Frederick County has relied on the
generosity of the community to fulfill
its mission. As medical costs continue
to rise and the demand for hospice
services grows, the Development
Council will play a vital role in assuring
that our community is fully informed
about what Hospice offers, and how
grateful we are for its continued
support.
Dear Fellow Supporters,
I am honored to lead the efforts to raise philanthropic support
for Hospice of Frederick County, an organization whose
benefits to our community I have the privilege of witnessing
firsthand.
Each year, more and more families turn to hospice for help.
The specialized care team embraces patients and their loved
ones with skill and compassion. And, they do so regardless of
one’s ability to pay. I am proud to know that no one is ever
turned away because of a lack of financial resources.
I have also learned from you, our donors. Your generosity can’t be counted in dollars
and cents. Your gifts can’t be measured with a ruler or displayed in a bar graph.
Every day, you bring hospice unexpected gifts of care, comfort, and hope.
For example:
• Larger beds at our Kline House that allow families to rest beside or
embrace their loved one.
• A strawberry milkshake delivered by a hospice volunteer.
• Coloring books and art supplies for children who are visiting loved ones at the
Kline House.
• Your stories of how hospice touched the lives of your families, your friends, and
your neighbors.
Through your generous support to our Plan for Living campaign, I am confident we
will financially secure the operations of our Kline House; the only residential home
in the county built exclusively for hospice patients. I also know we will continue to
provide support at no cost to those in our community struggling with grief.

Our Kline
Hospice House
Most of us would prefer to spend our final days in our
own homes, but that is not always possible. Through
the generosity of the Frederick community, Hospice of
Frederick County is able to offer 24-hour care at our Kline
Hospice House for $200 per day room and board (sliding
scale if applicable).
The Kline Hospice House provides:
• Six guest rooms with private bathrooms
• Wraparound deck in a tranquil setting
• Sunny, fully-stocked country kitchen with large windows
• Spacious family room with a game/meeting area
• Dining room for birthday parties, family reunions or
celebration meals
• Quiet, private loft area
• Playroom for children

Plan for Living Campaign
Hospice of Frederick County launched a multi-year, $5 million fundraising
campaign called Plan for Living. This new fundraising effort—the first of its kind
in the history of Hospice of Frederick County—will establish a fund for the Kline
House, with the interest income used to offset the annual deficit and ensure the
continuation of specialized, 24-hour comfort care. Additional funds raised through
the campaign will underwrite other services such as bereavement counseling for
family members, grief and loss support groups, community education, end-of-life
planning and other programs provided by Hospice free of charge. The following
individuals have provided outstanding leadership support for this fundraising
campaign:
