If you regularly drive on

you may have noticed that
the house that sat just

April and May, aggregate rock piers were built to provide a
good hard foundation base. Now, concrete footings are being poured along with the foundation. The pool is being dug

Last month, the City Council approved a landscaping

Later this summer, we will accept and award bids for the
new facility’s audio/visual and security systems. It’s amazing how quickly things are coming together. Except for the
rain, we couldn’t ask for a smoother process.

Please note that the new

there is hope that activities

the new facility.
This is an exciting time for Maryland Heights and I am so
proud to be part of the construction process. The new facility will serve as a gathering place, bringing those who live,
work and recreate in this community together in the name
of P.L.A.Y.—Parks, Leisure, Arts and You.

FACILITIES
General
Information
Wow, things are really moving over here! Dirt, rock and concrete that is. Our contractors, K&S Construction and their
sub-contractors, are not letting a little rain slow them down.
They’re using a sump pump that pumps the water out as it
accumulates and allows crews to keep moving forward with
the project.

Square Dancing
8 Weeks Ages 16+
A square dance is eight people interacting on the dance
floor in a spirit of co-operation and teamwork to the
direction of a person known as a “caller.” Most of all, it’s
great fun but it also has an element of both physical and
mental fitness and brings great friendships. It’s noncompetitive social recreation that’s open to everyone –
great for couples to share time together, great for families to enjoy together and great for singles to socialize
and meet others. In modern square dancing you shuffle
your feet smoothly to the rhythm of music that spans
from pop to country and show tunes to golden oldies.
There are 68 calls in the basic and mainstream square
dance program. In session I you will learn the first set
of calls. If you want to continue sign up for session II to
learn the remaining calls. You may not register for session II if you haven’t completed session I. Class will not

Facilitating Healthier Lifestyles, Encouraging Healthy Residents
Every session of Maryland Heights’ Biggest Loser facilitates some tremendous success stories regarding the
transformation of the program’s participants. The obvious change is the weight lost, but the greatest benefit is
a renewed commitment to health and exercise.
Kristen Turner, a participant in a recent Biggest Loser session, identifies the personal training sessions provided through the program to be incredibly valuable. “Your training sessions are catered to your needs and your
body type, so you learn what type of exercises will help you lose weight and build strength without causing
injury or muscle strain,” said Turner.
The winner of the most recent Biggest Loser session, which wrapped up in May, is Kim Pond. She lost an impressive 20.21 percent of her starting weight. Way to go Kim!

tour with host Linda Koenig. We’ll start off our tour in
Forest Park to learn about various German sculptures
while heading toward the campus of Concordia
Seminary for a tour of the campus and the beautiful
chapel. You can even climb the famous Luther Bell
Tower if you wish. We’ll stop by a few other German
sculptures and buildings on our way to a delicious
German meal at the Bevo Mill, consisting of bratwurst,
red cabbage, sauerkraut with apples, German potatoes,
homemade cobbler and more! After lunch, we’ll visit St.
Francis de Sales Catholic Church, founded by German
dairymen in 1867, with a magnificent array of stained
glass windows. We’ll take a drive by some fine early
stone mid-1800’s German street houses in south St.
Louis on our way back home. Trip includes tour, lunch
and transportation.
Learn all about our 16th president on this great trip to
Springfield, Illinois. With our step-on tour guide Garrett

of the Lincoln family and learn all about the life and
presidency of Abraham Lincoln. Next, we’ll relax for
lunch at Maldaner’s Restaurant. After lunch, we’ll tour
the Lincoln Home and Lincoln Tomb. We’ll arrive back
in Maryland Heights around 4:30 p.m. Cost includes the

A greeter from the zoo will meet us there to explain
what’s new at the zoo and answer any questions you
may have before you head out to explore on your
own. See Kali, the new polar bear, splash away in
his fantastic new habitat or catch a sea lion feeding,
scheduled daily at 1:45 p.m. We’ll arrive at the Zoo
around 11:30 a.m. and you’ll have three hours to tour at
your pace. Lunch will be on your own at the Lakeside
Café or one of the Zoo’s many refreshment stands.
Space is limited. Cost includes coach transportation.
