The name Indonesia has its
roots in two Greek words: ¨Indos¨
meaning
Indian
and
¨Nesos¨
which means islands. Variety is
the spice of life and nowhere is
this truer than in Indonesia. No
two places are alike in unspoiled
beauty, art, culture and people.
Indonesia is a vast and beautifully diverse
country stretching for more than 5,000
km across the equator. It would simply be
impossible to see everything that this, the
world’s largest archipelago, has to offer in
a short time.
Vast and magnificent, the largest
archipelago in the world, Indonesia has
more than 17,000 islands. There are five
major islands in Indonesia - Java, Sumatra,
Kalimantan / Borneo, Sulawesi / Celebes,
and Irian Jaya / Papua. The most wellknown island in Indonesia is probably Bali,
which is one of the favourite destinations
for both foreign and Indonesian tourists.
through April. Tourism, though, is seldom
distracted by the rain as this mostly occurs
as showers in the late afternoon and at
night to cool things down.
Indonesia’s flora and fauna is as diversely
rich as its land and people. Asian mammals
populate the west, Australian marsupial
species and birds occupy the east with
the endemic species in the middle of the
archipelago.
Indonesia’s national motto is “Bhinneka
Tunggal Ika”, meaning, “Unity in Diversity”.
This tropical country has hundreds of
ethnic groups and dialects.
Orang-utans, tigers, one-horned rhinos,
elephants, dugongs and komodo dragons
are the pride of Indonesia. The seas around
the archipelago also hold the country’s
treasures, a rich marine environment that
holds a myriad of species, including fish,
corals and marine mammals. National
parks around the archipelago preserve this
rich natural heritage.
Being located near the equator, the
Indonesian climate is divided into two
seasons, one dry and one rainy. Most of
Indonesia has rainy seasons from October
Sometimes, after a visit to this place, you
might find it difficult to leave, but remember
that Indonesia is always here to welcome
you back.

visitors exempt from having to arrange a Visa
beforehand will still need to purchase a ‘Visa Upon
Arrival’ for a stay of up to 30 days. We recommend
you check beforehand to establish if you are eligible to
purchase a ‘Visa upon Arrival’ or will need to arrange
a Visa before travelling.
Driving
Driving is on the left-hand side of the road, the traffic
can be chaotic, so best to rent a car and driver. Most
roads are fairly good and car or motorcycle hire is
readily available.
Casual lightweight garments such as cotton trousers,
skirts, and shirts or ‘T’ shirts including a couple of
long sleeved to protect your arms from the sun is
recommended. The best and most popular item of
clothing bought in Bali is the sarong which is a length
of brightly coloured thin cloth which can be used
as a cover up or a beach wrap. Also some form of
headwear is advisable.

Everyone should experience a holiday on a tropical
island at least once in their lifetime - where there is
nothing to do but eat, drink, sleep, read, walk, swim,
snorkel and relax. No hassles, no motor cars, no
telephone (except in an emergency) and far from the
tourist hordes. Throw in endless stretches of white
sandy beaches, one of the world’s most beautiful
coral reefs, and magnificent sunrises and sunsets,
and you have ‘paradise’.
If this sounds like a holiday that appeals to you then
the Royal Reef Resort on Gili Meno is the place to go.
