1007 - Resistance Training Biomechanics Understanding Optimal Training Techniques (L)
Douglas Brooks
[Presented in English]
2:30 PM – 6:30 PM
Controversy, or at least spirited discussion and differing opinions abound with regard to resistance training exercise technique.
Some convictions are factual and backed by science while others represent a viewpoint that comes from nothing more than
observation, or years of “experience” doing something incorrectly. Many other perspectives on resistance training exercise
mechanics have risen out of the gym-dust and are based on anecdotal, “cause and effect” rationalization. Biased opinion that
is based only on “experience” and “observation” often perpetuate inaccurate training methodology. Join this strength training
expert for a spirited discussion about resistive training exercise controversy and for a close examination of numerous upper and
lower body, as well as ab and back exercises. You will learn to differentiate between the terms high-risk, relative-risk, and
contraindicated. Leave with a solid, science backed foundation, from which to base how you and your group exercise
participants or clients will perform strength exercises. This session is 4 hours. Sponsored by HUMAN KINETICS. 4 FIS, 4 PTS

personal trainers are uncomfortable with the selling aspect of personal
training, but after this session you'll walk away with the skills to generate
more revenue and make life a lot easier. This session is 1.5 hours. PTS
9:45 AM – 10:45 AM
As fitness professionals we promote health for a living, though often we
become burnt out, injured or ill, or even worse, diagnosed with a serious
illness before we can stop to think about our own health. We might in fact
take for granted that as physically fit professionals we are protected against
the threatening illnesses that plague our society’s health. We may assume
that because we teach fitness daily that we automatically practice good
health habits and therefore are invincible and can handle whatever comes
along. In this session Mo reviews the physiology of immune health and
shares ways to support a healthy immune system by learning the common
“PITTS” associated with poor immune fitness habits. Mo will present
practical methods to help maximize fitness from the inside out. This lecture
is ideal for all fitness professionals, especially anyone who juggles a busy
training / teaching / personal schedule, experiences stress and doesn’t
exercise, eat or sleep as well as they would like. FIS, PTS, NWS, PFS, OAS,

2010 - The Iceland Marathon (L)
Gay Elliott
[Presented in English; Presenter is Bilingual]
Do you have clients that would like some tips on goal setting? Do you have
clients that have diabetes? This motivational lecture will explore the aspects
of training for a marathon, half marathon or 10K race, or walk with an older
adult. The Iceland Marathon is an event that this year saw 180 Canadians
all supporting the Canadian Diabetic Association. A truly life-changing
experience. PTS, NWS
2011 - Building Effective Relationships (L)
Mike Bates
[Presented in English]
The key to success in any profession is your ability to work with others. In
this session you will learn what it takes to develop effective relationshipbuilding skills that take your business to the next level. You will learn how
to conduct a comprehensive self assessment and then how to work with
others so that they have a genuine interest in working with you. The best
part – you will make some great friends along the way. FIS, PTS, NWS, PFS,
OAS, MBS, PDS
2012 - The 10 Most Common Fitness Myths (L)
Alexandre Paré
[Presented in French; Presenter is Bilingual]
If there is a field where myths are persistent, it is in fitness. Certainly, you
have already explained to your participants that sit-ups don’t trim waistlines,
that sweat does not contain fat and that using free weights that are more
than three pounds does not cause hypertrophy. In spite of your protests,
they don’t do anything about it and continue to do more crunches to lose
weight and to only use the free weights that are two pounds. This lecture is
designed to provide you with the most irrefutable arguments to support your
programming decisions as a personal trainer. This lecture is a must so that
you will always have the answers for your clients. PTS

hardships through our lives, but what allows us to overcome them is our
attitude. From the simplest mistake to the most profound tragedy, we have
choices in how we react. Join Rod on this journey of self-discovery as he
blends historical examples of challenges conquered by ordinary people with
his own experiences as an adventure racer and Ironman triathlete. You will

Journey into the flow. Experience a practice aimed to energetically open,
increase and balance the flow of pranic energy throughout the body.
Montreal 2007
Most indoor cycling classes spend little or no time out of the saddle and
often the bike is ridden as a road bike. Here, the emphasis is mountain
biking and how to lead a class in a long climb. Techniques of shifting using
the flywheel, “braking”, hill climbing and descent, body and pedal position,
and navigating minor “virtual” obstacles on the trail will be covered helping
you build a simulated mountain bike ride. The second half of the workshop
simulates a ride up El Diablo, which at 10,136 feet, is California’s tallest
mountain and the backdrop to this ride. This ride will test your climbing
prowess and show you that your spinning bike can be used for more than
road cycling. Be prepared to sweat. FIS, PTS

participation in fitness activities. I agree as do my heirs, next of kin, executors, administrators and assigns:
a) To waive all claims, known or unknown, that I have or may have in the future against Can-Fit-Pro

circumstances), breach of any duty imposed by law, breach of contract or mistake in error of judgment of CanFit-Pro;
