Targeting
Options
Contextual
We are now able to place advertisements
on the page according to the subject of the
news stories on that page. For example, if we
have a story about a school or college on our
site we would categorise this to education. If
a customer had chosen to target education
stories their advertisement would appear on
the page where this story appears.
Demographic
We can profile our users in order to identify
their gender, age, household income,
education level and whether they have
children. The customer can then identify
which demographic they believe would be
Online Targeting Options |6
most suitable to target in order to get response
and we will then show their advertisement to
that demographic regardless of what they are
reading when they use our site. For example,
if you are selling children’s clothing you could
target parents with children.
Behavioural
We can gather information on people’s online
browsing habits. This enables us to target
your advertising to people who have been
looking at websites which would suggest they
are interested in your product or service. For
example, a travel agent could target people
who have been visiting travel websites.
Meteo Targetting
We can target advertising dependent on
what the weather forecast is on our site. For
example, if a customer sells snow shovels they
could target snow therefore when there is
snow showing in the forecast panel of our site
their advertisement would be displayed.
Section
All the sections on our site can be targeted.
For example a school could target the
education section.
Bespoke. Please speak to one of our digital representatives to find out about various
other bespoke formats that we can provide.

THE VOICE OF THE DALES SINCE 1853
Disabled carer told
‘you’re fit to work’
by Lesley Tate
[email protected]
A disabled man from Sutton-in-Craven
has been told he is fit for work – despite
being a full-time carer for his elderly
mother.
Graeme Tyldesley is a blue card holder with a degenerative spine disease and
is currently in remission from cancer of
the bladder.
He also cares for his 82-year-old mother, Maisie, who has Alzheimer’s Disease
and cannot be left alone.
But following a work capability
assessment by the Department for Work
and Pensions (DWP), his employment
and support allowance – formerly incapacity benefit – of around £280 per
month has been stopped.
Mr Tyldesley, 57, who worked at
Airedale General Hospital for 21 years
including 14 years as a porter until he
was retired in 2002 because of ill health,
is appealing against the decision with
the help of Craven Advocacy.
He also has letters of support from
his GP and the consultant who cares for
him with his spinal disease.
But even though the appeal could go
in his favour, until a decision is made,
the allowance will remain cancelled –
possibly for several months.
“When they told me I was fit for work,
I was really upset and it has caused me
a great deal of stress,” said Mr
Tyldesley, who has seen his anti-depressants increased as a result.
“I can see why they are having to do
this, but I think they’re targeting the
wrong people.”
The work capability assessment
included Mr Tyldesley performing some
simple physical tests, such as being able
to lift a telephone or sit down – but did
not take into account the care of his
mother or her wellbeing.
In order to continue receiving the
allowance, he needed to score 15 points,
but he only scored six.
The decision letter acknowledged he
might be shocked, but that entitlement
was not based on his health condition or
disability, but on what he was capable of
doing.

case to
be heard
A 65-year-old Settle man was
sent to crown court by Skipton magistrates on Friday
charged with making thousands of indecent images of a
child.
Andrew Victor Atack is
charged with making more
than 12,459 indecent photographs and moving video images of a child between February 24, 2010 and October 17,
2011, at his home in Bridge
End Yard.
He also faces 21 further
charges of making indecent
images of a child, including
at the most serious level, at
various dates, again in Settle,
between May, 2010 and August, 2011. A further charge
relates to the possession of
12,459 indecent photographs
and video images between
February 24, 2010 and October 18, 2011 in Settle.
A remaining seven charges
relate to the possession of images and moving video images including at the highest
level in Settle on various
dates between February, 2010,
and October, 2011.
The case was committed to
Bradford Crown Court.

UPSET: Graeme Tyldesley, who suffers from a degenerative spinal disease, with
Sharon Hodgson from Craven Advocacy, who is helping with his appeal
some sort of desk job, but I’ve never
done anything like that. I was a porter
for 14 years and I loved my job, but I’ve
no experience at desk work,” he said.
He has been told he could qualify for
Jobseekers Allowance – but that will
depend on him being available for work.
His mother, who lives with him, has
professional carers who come in four
times a day to wash her and prepare her
for bed. But the bulk of her care is carried out by her son, who is with her all
the time, including at night, when she
regularly wakes.
“She cannot ever be left alone and if I
was not here with her I would have to
employ a full-time carer, or she would

Masked axe-wielding gang leave family traumatised
 CRIME
BY KEIGHLEY NEWS REPORTER
Masked pickaxe-wielding robbers who
threatened a family during a terrifying
home raid may have targeted the wrong
address, police have revealed.
Three balaclava-clad raiders – carrying what were believed to be a pickaxe
and a knife – struck at a house in Cliffe
Terrace, Denholme, on Monday evening.
They demanded cash and property
before searching the house and taking
three mobile phones and a set of car
keys. The items were all recovered shortly afterwards from a nearby garden.
But Detective Inspector Ryan Bragg, of
Airedale and North Bradford CID, believes
the robbers might have made a mistake.
He said: “We are looking at the possibility the suspects were after a particular house or property and got the wrong

raiders struck
one – it is an unusual incident for this
area, and the occupants are a decent,
working family.”
Police are appealing for information
about the incident, which happened at
about 8.30pm. They also want to hear
from anyone who may have seen a suspicious vehicle in the area at the time.
DI Bragg added: “This was a terrifying
ordeal for a family to be subjected to in
their own home.
“A teenage girl has been left traumatised by the incident.
“I would appeal to anyone who may
have any information, or who saw anybody in the area acting suspiciously, to
contact Airedale and North Bradford CID
on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
One of the robbers is described as Asian,
aged 19 to 24 and about 5ft 11in tall, wearing dark clothing and white gloves.
The second man is also of Asian
appearance and about the same age. He
was a few inches shorter and of chubby
build, wearing a grey hooded top.

Recycling centre U-turn celebrated by campaigners ‘Heroic’ dad helps
 WASTE
Campaigners are celebrating
a decision to save a Keighley
waste recycling centre from
closure.
Sugden End tip at Cross
Roads was earmarked to shut
as part of sweeping Bradford
Council cuts.
But the authority’s Labour
leaders this week revealed the
proposal has been shelved.
Opponents of the closure
have hailed the U-turn as a
“victory for common sense”.
The proposal sparked outrage among Worth Valley
householders, who faced a trip
across Keighley to use the
Royd Ings Avenue recycling
centre, and the Keighley News
was inundated with letters.
Leading
campaigner,
Councillor Rebecca Poulsen,
said: “The people of Worth
Valley – and neighbouring
Bingley Rural ward – have
campaigned vocally to see
the Sugden End site stay
open, and it is right their concerns and subsequent efforts
have been recognised.”
She said immense pressure
had been placed on Coun
Andrew Thornton, the council’s portfolio holder for environment and sport, and the
wider Labour group.

Four schoolchildren who invented an
‘eco-home of the future’ have won a
national competition.
The team of pupils, all in year four at
Bradford Grammar Junior School,
designed a house called the ‘Carbon
Cutter’ to enter into the green-themed
contest.
They imagined a home built directly
into a hill, which used hydroelectric
power and had a roof made from
recycled glass bottles.
The children drew a 3D picture of

their eco-home, complete
lift-up
flaps, and wrote an explanatory essay.
It said: “We have used a womery to
create fertile soil for the plants, and a
filter for the sewage.
“We have got an animal shed made
out of recycled wood and collect our
own rainwater.
“We have baskets for the sheeps’
wool. Our main window is taken from a
crashed car.”
Their design was entered into the
country’s
biggest
environmental
competition, being held to mark
Climate Week.
It was judged alongside entries by
tens of thousands of people from
schools, colleges and workplaces across
the UK.

And the team – Emma Dewhurst of
Shipley, Amber Kenyon of Bradford,
Ben Grimmit of Baildon, and Alex
Flaherty of Ilkley – have now been
crowned winners in the contest’s sevento-nine age category.
The group had been selected to
represent their school after winning a
mini version of the contest held among
their classmates.
Their teacher, Natalie Rees, said:

A community centre is celebrating after
a housebuilder gave it a £1,000 boost.
Keepmoat made the donation to
Windhill Community Centre to thank
people for their patience during
building work at its neighbouring
Victoria Gardens development.
Community development worker of
the North East Windhill Community
Association, which manages the centre,
Kath Quinn, said: “The funding was
used to support the second year of our
Community Organiser Project which
involves creating the role of a full time
community organiser to go out into the
community and encourage people to
talk about their area, what they would
like to see happening and what they can
do to make it happen.
“Like-minded people are then put in
touch with each other and supported or
directed to local support agencies to
take their ideas forward.”
The donation will be match funded by
the Government.
Steven
Graham,
partnerships
manager at Keepmoat, said: “We are
very grateful to the local community at
Shipley for their ongoing patience
during the construction works and
immediately thought of saying thank
you through the Windhill Community
Centre because of the excellent
facilities it provides.”
Ward councillor Alex Ross-Shaw who
is chairman of the Community First
group, which works with community
organiser Maya Williams, said: “This
donation from Keepmoat will help the
work of the community organiser
supporting Community First in setting
up local groups to apply for funding to
make Windhill a better place to live.’’
The Victoria Gardens development,
at Woodend Crescent, includes 136 twoand three-bedroom homes. It is being
developed in partnership with social
housing group Incommunities and will
include 29 affordable homes.

A decision on whether a
primary school can expand
should be delayed for a second
time for potential parking
problems to be properly
solved.
Thackley Primary School
wants to expand to take an
extra 90 pupils, but a survey
by ward councillors has found
neighbours are concerned
about “the inconsiderate
attitude of parents’ parking”.
The application was due to
be discussed by Bradford
Area Planning Committee on
Thursday at 9.45am at City
Hall.
