Closed System
Our focus is to provide a robust, dependable control that is
seamlessly integrated with the machine. Our closed system is optimized specifically for Haas
machines, and does not rely on third-party NC suppliers. When you call Haas, you get a
company that takes full responsibility for the entire machine.
Dedicated Keypad The Haas keypad has a full array of keys, including a
complete alphanumeric keypad; and all common functions are clearly labeled for operator
ease. If you’ve ever fumbled with hot keys, or had to page through screens looking for
a specific function, you will appreciate the simplicity of the Haas control. There are no
encrypted codes to memorize.
One-Button Features Common multi-step functions, such as setting
tool offsets, have been reduced to the push of a single button. Other often-used functions,
such as setting work offsets, homing the machine, and selecting the next tool during set
up, are also one-button commands.
Multi-Function Jog Handle
Did You Know?
Most machines use the jog handle
only to move the axes around. On Haas machines, the jog handle can also be used in
other modes to cursor through the program for faster editing, override spindle speeds and
feedrates, scan through offsets and user settings, and more.

CURRENT COMMANDS
The Current Commands page
displays the current status of the machine, including the current program
running, the current position, the active tool, the spindle and axis loads, the current
spindle speed, and the feedrate. Additional screens show which commands and
G-codes are being used in the current program; and a timer shows cycle
time, cutting time, power-on time, and M30 count (number of parts).
HELP The Help function is a built-in, searchable operator’s manual that
explains the various functions of a Haas machine. Simply press the HELP key
in any mode to access the on-screen Help system, which displays icons for
accessing content from the entire operator’s manual. There are also icons for
Active Icon Help, Active Window Help, and Active Window Commands, as well
as a built-in calculator for arithmetic functions.
The Power of a Single Button
Some of the most powerful features of the Haas control – features every
machinist will appreciate – take only the push of a single button. For example,
you can set tool offsets with the push of a single button – without having to
manually enter numbers into the control. Simply jog a tool to the surface
of the part, push the Tool Offset Measure button, and the tool’s length is
automatically stored in the tool length register. Push the Next Tool button to
repeat the process for each tool. That’s it! Setting work offsets is just as easy.
These time-consuming processes have been reduced to a few simple steps.
The Current Commands screens have been reorganized and combined
into a single display interface, with enhanced features like Advanced Tool
Management, active codes, and more, right at your fingertips.
Tool-Load Monitoring Maximizing tool life is another key
to increasing productivity. The Haas control can monitor the spindle load for
each tool, and automatically adjust the feeds if the load exceeds a limit set
by the operator. If a tool exceeds the preset limit, the control can be set to
reduce the commanded feedrate, alert the operator, go into feed-hold mode,
or generate a tool-overload alarm. The first time a program runs, the Haas
control automatically records the highest load seen for each tool. Using this
information and the Tool Load Monitoring feature of the control, the operator
can set load limits for each tool. This maximizes tool life, and protects the
workpiece and machine from the effects of tool wear.
Advanced Tool Management
To maximize productivity, the Haas control has an integrated Advanced Tool
Manager that allows you to create a group of redundant tools for use within
a program. From a single screen, you can view the different tool groups and
their parameters. Simply define which tool numbers are part of a group, and
what parameter will determine when to change to a redundant tool. This can
be based on feed time, the number of tool calls, the number of holes drilled or
tapped, or a preset load limit. To use a group of redundant tools in a program,
simply enter the group number as your tool call-out. The tool offsets you
defined during set up are automatically loaded for each tool as it’s called up.

OPTIONAL UPGRADES
VP S
VISUAL PROGRAMMING SYSTEM
The Haas Visual Programming System (VPS) lets you quickly create G-code
programs for basic part features. The part-feature templates use a form-like
interface with which you define the feature. VPS then outputs working G-code
at the touch of a button.
When you use VPS, you first choose a part-feature template; for example, a bolt
pattern. You then work your way through the required variables, entering the
necessary information, guided by on-screen illustrated examples and Help text.
When you’re finished, you can immediately run your new program. You can also
output the code to MDI, where you can edit it, save it as a program, or copy it
to include in another program.
VPS also includes a custom template generator so you can make templates for
your own part features or frequently used programs. Your HFO’s Applications
Department can help you get started.
• Cutting-edge navigation, with templates and a new form-based interface
• Includes Wireless Intuitive Probing templates
Connectivity Simplified
The Next Generation Control has a vastly improved and
simplified network set up interface. Wired connectivity via
Ethernet comes standard, but for more convenience, you
can add the optional WiFi capability. With the NGC, there
are no limitations with any common operating system;
connectivity is fast and reliable.

DWO/TCPC
With DWO/TCPC you will have:
Dynamic Work Offsets (DWO) and Tool Center Point Control (TCPC) are software features in
the Next Generation Control that greatly simplify multi-axis machining when using 4- and 5-axis
rotary tables. DWO/TCPC eliminates the need to locate the workholding in exactly the same
place, or repost the part program every time a job is set up. In the case of 4- and 5-axis
contouring programs using TCPC, or 3+2 programs using DWO, the Haas control recognizes
the part position and creates the correct toolpath, regardless of the workholding position, greatly
reducing set-up time or reposting time.
• No need to place the part in the exact same
location every time
• No need to repost the program when the fixture
changes
• No need to repost the program when the stock
changes a small amount
DWO/TCPC changes everything:
• Save time in the CAM system
• Save money on set up
• Increase your number of multi-axis operators
• Increase your productivity
• Make money faster
DWO/TCPC & WIRELESS PROBING
Dynamic Work Offsets (DWO) and Tool Center Point Control (TCPC) provide
a massive shortcut for multi-axis machining setups, and can save you
time and headaches. For DWO/TCPC to work, you have to tell the Haas
control where the part is positioned, the software then makes all the
adjustments required to cut the part correctly. With all that technology at
your fingertips, you need a simple, quick way to find the part position that
does not involve a manual edge finder. That’s where the Haas Wireless
Intuitive Probing system comes in. Using the part probe, you can automate
every step of finding the part edges and entering the data into the control.
The Haas Wireless Intuitive Probing System includes a work probe, a tool
probe, and powerful software. It is the simplest and most powerful, probing

4th-and 5th-Axis Control
Allows the use of
4th- and 5th-axis Haas rotary tables for multi-side machining or machining
complex contours and shapes, such as impellers. Increases productivity
and reduces setups.
Coordinate Rotation/Scaling
Use rotation in conjunction with work offset probing to speed workpiece set up,
or use it to rotate a pattern to another location or around a circumference, etc.
Use scaling to reduce or enlarge a toolpath or pattern.
User-Definable Macros
Create subroutines for custom
canned cycles, probing routines, operator prompting, math equations or
functions, and family-of-parts machining with variables.
Engraving Using a single block of code, you can easily engrave any
text string enclosed in parentheses. Engrave sequential part numbers using
the standard serializing function.
8 M Functions Adds 8 additional M functions for a total of up to

send the axes to a user-defined Home position other than the machine’s
default Home position.
Memory Upgrades Expandable on-board solid-state memory
allows storing, running, and editing large programs directly at the machine.
High-Speed Machining The High-Speed Machining option is a powerful tool to
reduce cycle times and improve accuracy. Testing on complex 3- to 5-axis applications shows drastic
reductions in cycle times, as well as increased accuracy and smoother motion.
• Greatly reduces
cycle times
• Full look-ahead
Using a motion algorithm called “acceleration before interpolation,” combined with full look-ahead, the
HSM option allows contouring feedrates up to 1200 ipm* without risk of distortion to the programmed
path. All programmed motions are accelerated before interpolation to ensure the movement of each
axis does not exceed the acceleration capability of the machine. The look-ahead algorithm determines
the fastest feedrate at which each stroke can be blended into the next without stopping. This
results in higher accuracy, smoother motion, and a higher actual feedrate – even with complex
part geometry. The Haas HSM option accepts ISO standard G-code from all major CAM systems, and
is only a fraction of the cost of other high-speed controls.

THE FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESS
C-Frame Design
All Haas VF-Series VMCs are based around
the proven C-frame design, utilizing all cast-iron components for superior
damping and exceptional stability.
16 | America’s Leading Machine Tool Builder
A Rigid Platform
No matter what the project – a family house, a skyscraper, or a suspension bridge
– the soundness of the structure is determined by the sturdiness of the foundation. The same principle applies to
vertical machining centers. It all starts with the base and column structures. How well the machine cuts is tied to the
sturdiness of the basic structure.
Massive Cast-Iron Construction
Cast iron provides up to ten times the damping
capacity of steel. That’s why Haas uses cast iron for all major components. Our castings are reinforced with heavy
ribs to resist flex and damp vibrations, and they're thoroughly inspected before and after machining to ensure they
are free of flaws.
Triangulated Wide-Stance Castings
Our triangulated wide-stance castings allow
maximum structural loading with efficient use of materials. They provide a rigid and stable machining platform that
resists flex, distributes cutting forces effectively, and is very thermally stable.
Anti-Flex, Reinforced Base
& Column Castings
Our specially designed base and column castings feature
anti-flex, vibration-absorbing ribs that transfer vibration
away from the cutting area. The columns feature an
internal torque-tube design that yields superior rigidity
and provides the most anti-flex properties of any design.
All structural components are optimized using finite element
analysis (FEA) to produce the most rigid designs.

MOTION CONTROL
Double-Anchored Ballscrews
Haas uses only premium-quality ballscrews and guides from the
world’s top manufacturers. Although more expensive, their premium quality is the only way to achieve the high accuracy and
long life that our customers demand. Ballscrews are anchored at both ends and inspected for 100% parallelism to the axis
guides. Preloaded ball nuts eliminate backlash.
Brushless Servomotors Haas uses state-of-the-art, energy-efficient brushless servomotors that offer
more torque in a smaller frame than almost any other motors available. These high-performance servos provide more power
for heavy cuts, and higher acceleration/deceleration rates to reduce cycle times. High-resolution encoders and closed-loop
digital feedback ensure ultra-precise positioning.
Direct-Coupled Servomotors
Our servomotors are coupled directly to the ballscrews to eliminate
windup, even under severe loading. This greatly improves positioning accuracy, and provides more accurate threading and
contouring. And they don’t wear out or lose accuracy over time.
100% Ballbar Tested
Haas uses a state-of-the-art ballbar test to check the linear positioning and
geometry of every machine. The ultra-precise ballbar tracks movement as the machine is put through a series of moves to certify
synchronous movement and verify machine geometry This generates a chart illustrating machine condition and performance data.
Any deviations in geometry or position show up as distortions that are very easy to spot. A copy of this chart ships with each Haas
VMC as assurance that the machine is accurate and properly aligned.
18 | America’s Leading Machine Tool Builder
Minimal Lubrication System
The Haas Minimal Lubrication System consists of two subsystems that optimize the amount of lubrication to the machine
components. Each system supplies lubrication only when it is
needed, thus reducing the amount of lube required for the
machine, and limiting the chance of excess lube contaminating
the coolant.
One fill of each system should last a minimum of 1 year of
continuous operation.
Linear Scales
Linear scales ensure positioning
accuracy along X, Y, and Z axes by compensating for the
thermal variations inherent in all machine tools. With a
1-micron resolution, these scales deliver the extreme accuracy
required for mold making and other high-precision machining
applications. (Available on VF-6 – VF-12 only)
Electronic Thermal
Compensation System
Ballscrews generate heat when they rotate, which can cause
them to expand. With high duty cycles, ballscrew growth can
lead to cutting errors. Our electronic thermal-compensation
(ETC) algorithm accurately models this heating effect and
compensates for screw position.
Recirculating Ball Guideways
Haas uses recirculating ball guideways for each axis of every VMC. These guideways are
preloaded for zero clearance, and provide full load-carrying capacity in all directions. They
consume less power, do not require adjustment, and are proven to outperform sliding box
ways for accuracy and speed. Each guideway is automatically lubricated to guarantee long life.
Recirculating Ball Guideways
Outperform Box Ways Recirculating ball guideways are preloaded to
provide zero clearance between the moving surfaces. This increases rigidity and stiffness in all
directions, while providing higher accuracy and reliability. They have a very low coefficient of
friction, which allows faster movements without sacrificing repeatability or positioning accuracy.
Box ways require clearance between the moving surfaces in order to operate. They have a high
coefficient of friction, which produces stick-slip effects that can lead to machine errors.

High-Capacity Cartridge Spindle The advanced design of our
spindles provides high axial-thrust capability, yet generates minimal heat. The front and rear
bores of the housing and the OD of the spindle are finished in one operation. This guarantees
perfect alignment between the bores and ODs, thus reducing bearing heat.
Our spindles use pre-loaded angular-contact bearings, with the two forward bearings
separated by a large spacer to enhance radial stability – enabling heavy cuts in steel. To
ensure long life, the spindle is pressurized with air to prevent coolant contamination, and an
air/oil mixture is injected automatically to ensure precise lubrication and long bearing life.
Powerful Vector Spindle Drives
The Haas-designed vector
spindle drive uses closed-loop, digital servo technology to provide precise speed control
and peak performance under heavy cutting loads, resulting in the fastest, most powerful
spindle ever. These drives allow you to push the spindle to 150 percent of the motor’s
continuous power rating for 15 minutes, and to 200 percent for 3 minutes. That’s more
performance headroom than other spindle drives.
On-The-Fly Wye-Delta Switching
PEAK POWER
Many Haas VMCs feature
a dual-winding motor – wye and delta – with an electronic switch to change between the
two windings. Selecting the best winding for low-rpm cutting and the best winding for highrpm cutting yields higher torque over a wider rpm range. On-the-fly switching maximizes
acceleration/deceleration rates for more chip making and less waiting.

TYPES
Inline Drive
The standard configuration for most Haas 40-taper VMCs is an inline direct-drive
spindle that is coupled directly to the motor to provide excellent surface finishes and greater thermal
stability. The inline spindle is available in 8100-rpm, 10,000-rpm, 12,000-rpm, and 15,000-rpm.
Gear Drive The Haas geared-head spindle provides increased low-end torque for heavy
cutting, while retaining the ability to run up to 10,000 rpm for high-speed machining. It is standard
on 50-taper machines, and optional on most 40-taper machines.
Belt Drive
This system features a Haas-built cartridge spindle that is driven by the motor
via belt. This provides a good combination of torque and rpm for a wide selection of machining
operations. It is a great overall value.
Vibration-Isolated Gearbox
Haas has invested more than $10 million in the
finest gear-making and inspection equipment
in the world. Haas gears are CNC machined

Synchronized Tapping
An encoder attached to the Haas highperformance spindle synchronizes Z-axis motion
with the spindle’s rotation. Synchronized tapping
eliminates the need for expensive floating tap
holders, and prevents lead-thread distortion and
start-thread pullout. The tap can also retract up
to nine times faster than it went in to reduce cycle
times. There is also an automated tap recovery
sequence to easily back the tap out of a hole in
the event of an interruption.
(Standard on all machines except GR, Mini Mill and Toolroom Mill.)
Spindle Head Thermal
Stability Enhancements
An independent jacket in our head casting
surrounds the spindle. Coolant circulates through
this jacket to remove heat generated by the
spindle, which minimizes thermal distortion of the
head, eliminating Y- and Z-axis changes. Because
the coolant touches all parts of the machining
area, it accurately reflects the overall temperature
of the machine.
To improve thermal stability further, we’ve insulated
the head and increased the air flow through the
spindle-head assembly. Cool air enters from the
rear of the machine, flows around the spindle and
exits at the top, away from the spindle head.

High-Speed Side-Mount Tool Changer
The Haas DT series Drill/Tap and DM series Drill/Mill centers are all about faster
production of smaller parts, and their high-speed side-mount tool changers are part
of that quick delivery. These machines swap tools in less than 1 second, thanks to
a servo-driven ring-gear drive that spins the carousel quickly, and radially mounted
pockets that don't need to pivot into position for tool changes.

CHIP AND COOLANT MANAGEMENT
Chip Removal Systems People buy CNC machines to make parts
faster. The last thing they want is to waste time removing chips. Haas VMCs are available
with an optional single- or multi-auger system that automatically removes chips from the
enclosure and conveniently discharges them at the side of the machine.
26 | America’s Leading Machine Tool Builder
Single Auger All Haas VMCs are available with a single, augerstyle chip conveyor that automatically removes chips from the machine,
while simultaneously compressing them and extracting the coolant. For
added reliability, the system reverses automatically if a jam occurs.
Triple Auger VF-1 and VF-2 machines (all models) are available
with a high-volume chip-removal system comprising dual side augers
to transport chips to the front of the pan, and a primary chip auger to
discharge the chips from the machine.
Quad Auger
VF-3 through VF-6 machines (all models) are
available with a high-volume chip-removal system comprising four side
augers to transport chips to the front of the pan, and a belt-type chip
conveyor to discharge chips from the machine at barrel height. The belt
conveyor may be installed on either side of the machine.

CHIP AND COOLANT MANAGEMENT
Coolant System Design
Features and Improvements
SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS TO OUR COOLANT systems mean vastly reduced maintenance
requirements, and higher productivity for shops running Haas machines. Some of these design
improvements were made to the coolant system inside the machines, while other refinements
took place within the coolant tank itself. Our approach is to evaluate each component of the
system, and then make measurable improvements to each one, which results in a significant
improvement to the entire system. Here are the details of the latest improvements:
Coolant Tank
Haas coolant tanks have undergone a complete redesign.
In the past, the in-tank pump filters and screens required frequent
cleaning to prevent pump cavitation caused by insufficient
coolant reaching the pump (this can seriously degrade pump
performance). Filtration is now accomplished through a settlingstyle separation system that greatly reduces tank clean-out
frequency, while maintaining pump performance.
The Coolant Pump
The coolant path in any machine begins at the pump.
We’ve recently developed a high-performance, 3-phase coolant
pump that outperforms – and is more reliable than – the previous
1-phase coolant pump. The results have been exceptional: Our
testing and owner feedback show overall better performance, less
noise and vibration, and greater reliability.
Coolant Hoses
Haas now uses 100% polyurethane hoses in all of our coolant
systems and accessories. Sure, they cost more, but they never
harden or crack, regardless of the coolant being used, they
outlast PVC and rubber-style hoses by years – and they resist
kinking throughout their life cycle.

Capture and Return Coolant
Mist to the System with the
Enclosure Exhaust System
Everyone has experienced the delay caused by waiting
for coolant mist to clear out of a machine when you
open the doors. Nobody wants to breathe that stuff, so
the operators wait for the mist cloud to clear, or blow the cloud away using the air gun. What
a waste of time! Sure, there are aftermarket systems out there to clear out that mist, but they
are expensive, not easily integrated into the machine, and some don’t have a filter, let alone
one that can be easily cleaned.
The Haas Enclosure Exhaust System is a low-cost solution that immediately improves
productivity by reducing the total machining cycle time. How it works is simple. A powerful,
low-vibration fan pulls the coolant mist generated by the cutter out of the enclosure. The
coolant-laden mist passes through two reusable woven-metal filter panels, where the coolant
coalesces and is allowed to return to the enclosure, while cleaned air is expelled out the top
of the unit. The system integrates with the Haas control, turning on automatically when the
spindle starts and off after the spindle stops. An on-screen icon alerts the operator when the
filters require cleaning.
Coolant Return Spillway
Coolant drains from the machine through a trough we call the “Return Spillway.” We noticed that,
after many hours of use, the area around the back of the machines became very messy from
the splashing that occurred when coolant circulated back into the tank. Our solution: Design a
NO-SPLASH spillway that greatly reduces this phenomenon and the associated evaporation.
In addition, we include a filter basket to strain the coolant before it re-enters the tank.

300 psi or 1000 psi Through-Spindle Coolant Systems
Through-spindle coolant uses an auxiliary pump to supply coolant through the tool, directly to the
cutting edge. This increases tool life, allows higher cutting speeds, and clears chips during deephole drilling and blind-pocket milling. Two systems are available. One provides up to 300 psi to
the cutting edge, and the other provides up to 1000 psi. The actual pressure of both systems
will vary with the size of the coolant passages in the tool.
Flow Rate Dynamics For both 300 psi and 1000 psi through-spindle coolant
options, the highest pressure occurs at the lowest flow rate. The actual pressure delivered to the
cutting edge depends on the size of the coolant passages in the tool. Smaller passages restrict
the flow, causing the pressure to increase (up to the maximum of the system). Conversely, larger
coolant passages allow more fluid through, resulting in lower pressure at the cutting edge.

New High-Pressure Coolant Pumps
for Through-Spindle Coolant.
Available in two versions – 300 psi (21 bar) and 1000
psi (69 bar) – Haas high-pressure coolant pumps are
used to force coolant through long drills and boring
bars. Delivering high-pressure coolant to the cutting
zone allows uninterrupted drilling or boring, with better
surface finish and longer cutter life. Our latest 1000 psi
(69 bar) pump eliminates the separate power supply
requirements, takes up less space, operates quietly,
and, is less expensive than previous versions.

Automatic Coolant Refill System
The Automatic Coolant Refill System mounts to the handle of any standard Haas coolant tank.
It automatically monitors the machine’s coolant usage, and then replenishes the tank with coolant
mixed to the specified concentration. The system, when connected to a water supply, blends the
coolant concentrate of your choice with water, and automatically dispenses the mixture into the
coolant tank. The system saves hours of maintenance and increases overall output.
30 | America’s Leading Machine Tool Builder
There is now a mesh filter screen at the bottom of the
TSC unit that serves as a pre-filter for the TSC gear pump.
We wanted to protect the pump better to promote
longer life of the gears and bearing journals, so we
reduced the pre-filter mesh size from 70 to 150. The
new filter is 2X finer, so it collects debris at 2X the rate
of the old filter (that’s good!) . . . and clogs at 2X the rate
of the old filter (that’s bad!). So we added an automatic
backwash system that cleans the filter every time the
pump turns off.
To make sure the pump doesn’t stop pumping due to
a clogged screen, we added a vacuum sensor on the
intake side of the pump to measure how dirty the filter
is. When it reaches a threshold value, the vacuum switch
sends a signal to the control and notifies the operator
that it’s time to clean the TSC filter and clean the tank.
Coolant Level Sensor
Haas coolant tanks not only keep chips out of the
coolant system, but are fully integrated with the Haas
control. A float level sensor keeps track of the coolant
level in the tank, and displays this information in real
time on the control screen. There’s no need to guess,
measure, or walk to the back of the machine to make
a visual determination of the coolant level.
Coolant Tank Oil Skimmer
Flood Coolant Ring
Designed specifically for the new Haas 3-phase pump, our new coolant-delivery system features
a rail-style, wraparound manifold ring that provides 360° of forceful coolant streaming through
four specially designed nozzles. The system improves delivery of coolant to the cutting tool, and
is easy to adjust.
The Haas Coolant Tank Oil Skimmer is an integrated
solution for keeping your coolant tank free of
tramp and tap oils. The skimmer is easily and
quickly installed onto the side of the Haas coolant
tank. During operation, it extracts tramp oil from
the coolant in the tank, and deposits it into a
collection container.
Programmable Coolant Nozzle
The Programmable Coolant Nozzle is a multi-position nozzle that automatically directs coolant precisely
at the cutting tool. The position of the nozzle is controlled via the program, saving operator time by
eliminating constant adjustments. From customer feedback and close observation, we determined
that the unit was positioned too far from the spindle, and its nozzle was a bit too long. We addressed
these issues by moving the unit 8 inches closer to the cutter, and shortening the nozzle to reduce
possible collisions with rotary tables, fixtures, and workpieces.
Auxiliary Coolant Filter
The Haas Auxiliary Coolant Filter is a low-cost
option that serves to filter coolant for either the
low-pressure or high-pressure coolant pumps.
We reviewed the design, and made several
improvements. To make it easier to check the
coolant flow rate and the condition of the filter bag,
we added a view port in the housing lid. We also
added a unique venturi valve that maintains the
coolant level within the tank automatically.

MACHINING WITH AIR INSTEAD OF COOLANT
BUILD A COOLANT-FREE CUTTING SYSTEM by
combining these Haas optional air and lubrication
systems designed to keep the tool cool and the
chips out of the way. By utilizing modern tooling
and these clever Haas systems, you can save
time, money, and hassle.
1. Through-Tool Air Blast
Provides high-pressure/high-flow air through
the tool to the cutting edge for:
• Longer tool life
• Cleaner machine
• Faster chip removal
• Improved surface finish
• Zero coolant usage and disposal

2. Automatic Air Gun
MANY OF TODAY’S MODERN CUTTING TOOLS – thanks
to carbide inserts with high-tech coatings – are
able to withstand much higher temperatures
than ever before, and inherently provide muchneeded lubrication to the cutting edge. On many
materials, cutting tools with coated carbide inserts
no longer need coolant to lower the temperature
of the cutting edge and lubricate the cut area to
prolong tool life. These days, the primary cause
of tool wear and damage for these advanced
cutting tools is re-cutting chips.
The Haas Through-Tool Air Blast option solves this
problem by providing high-pressure/high-flow air
through the tool to the cutting zone to blow away
chips, while also providing some cooling action for
the inserts and the chips created by the cut. This
is particularly beneficial when machining pockets
and other internal features, where chips can
collect. The Through-Tool Air Blast can also be
used to blow chips and coolant from workpieces
at the end of a machining cycle.
Provides a constant air blast to the cutting tool
to clear chips during dry machining for:
There are other Haas options, as well, that can
modernize your metal cutting operations. The
Auto Air Gun can be used in a way similar to
the Through-Tool Air Blast, by blowing chips
away from the cutting area, and cooling the tool
and chips with a stream of high-pressure air.
For operations that can benefit from additional
lubrication – like drilling and tapping – the Haas
Minimum Quantity Lubrication System feeds a
user-specified amount of fluid into the air stream
of the Auto Air Gun to deliver lubricant directly
to the cutting area. To keep the machine’s
enclosure clear of mist and smoke generated
during the machining process, augment these
capabilities with the Enclosure Exhaust System.

HIGH-SPEED DRILL/TAP SERIES
The Haas DT Series machines
are compact,
high-speed drill and tap centers with full milling capabilities. The DT-1 has a
20" x 16" x 15.5" (xyz) work cube and a 26" x 15" T-slot table, while the
DT-2 provides an additional 8" of X-axis travel and table length. Both models
feature a powerful BT30 taper inline direct-drive spindle, providing 15,000
rpm, and allowing rigid tapping at speeds to 5000 rpm. A high-speed sidemount tool changer swaps tools quickly, while 2400 ipm rapids and high
accelerations combine to shorten cycle times and reduce non-cutting time.
The DT-1 and DT-2 are lean-style machining centers with compact footprints
that allow multiple machines to be placed side-by-side, resulting in the most
efficient use of valuable shop floor space.

GOING GREEN
Long before “Green” meant lessening one’s carbon footprint, Haas machines had the ability to save you
money by reducing electricity usage while the machine was idle.
While Haas engineers continue to improve the electrical efficiency of Haas machines, below are several
things you can do today to further lower electricity usage in your Haas machining center.
SAVING ENERGY MEANS SAVING MONEY
• Auto Power-Off setting turns the machine off after a specified
number of minutes idle
• LCD Backlight Off setting blanks the LCD after
a specified number of minutes idle
• Power-Off at M30 sets the control to start a 30-second timer
that will turn off all power unless interrupted
• Conveyor Off setting automatically turns off the chip conveyor
after a specified number of minutes idle
• Sleep Mode puts the machine into a low-power mode for a
programmed length of time
• Servos and Hydraulics Off setting automatically turns off
the servos and hydraulic pump after a specified number of
minutes idle
• Screen Saver setting
Refer to your operator’s manual for detailed information on these settings and more.

WORK SMART
4TH- AND 5TH-AXIS OPTIONS
Adding a fully integrated, plug-n-play,
4th- or 5th-axis Haas brushless rotary table to your Haas VMC creates a supercharged machining
center package that boosts your productivity and reduces setups. Fully synchronized 4th- and 5thaxis configurations are available on most Haas VMC models.
An online Rotary Fit Chart that will help you determine which Haas rotaries will work with various Haas
mills is available at HaasCNC.com. Access the Fit Chart while checking out either machine tools,
or Rotaries.
