The new lighting legislation made easy.

A new twist has been added to the simple task of changing
general service and reflector bulbs. And for all of us–and the
environment, it will be a turn for the better. The Energy
Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA) is phasing
out the iconic incandescent light bulbs and is requiring
manufacturers to replace them with new, energy efficient
bulbs that comply with EISA’s mandated performance levels
for incandescent and incandescent halogen bulbs.
The phase-out of the general service bulbs began in January
2012 starting with the 100W. The 75W will follow in 2013 and
the 60W and 40W will follow in 2014. This means you have
more efficient lighting alternatives such as the SYLVANIA
Halogen, CFL and ULTRA LED bulbs.

General Purpose and Decorative Bulbs
In January 2012, EISA legislation began phasing out inefficient incandescent light bulbs. This will result in significant energy savings and a
much reduced carbon footprint. EISA legislation covers both medium
screw base general service and decorative bulbs. In addition, some
other lamps were phased out in July 2012. The July phase out covered halogen directional products.
