• The harbour of La Caleta,
Adeje is a lovely place to sit
by the sea-front and watch
the local fishermen bring in
their catch or to try a local
fresh fish restaurant. One of
the most popular in the area
is La Masia.
• The Barranco del Infierno,
known as Hell’s Ravine, is a
popular trail through the ravine
to the highest waterfall in
Tenerife. Limited to only 300
people a day to help preserve
the environment, booking is
essential so make reservations
at www.barrancodelinfierno.es
in advance to guarantee
your place.
• Tagana is one of the oldest
villages in Tenerife. The road to
get there is not for the feinthearted but the reward for
the effort is a peaceful village
descending down the slopes of
the forested Anaga Mountains
down to the Atlantic Ocean
with a stunning beach and
some great walking trails.
• Puerto de la Cruz is not as
well known for its beaches as
other towns on the island, but
Playa del Socorro will surprise
you with its black volcanic sand
and clear waters. Access is by
stairway but all conveniences
are there including a relaxed
beach bar.
• Local markets – there are
a variety of markets dotted
all over the island with
the main gatherings being
held on Tuesday, Thursday,
Saturday and Sunday. If you
fancy a really exotic market
experience then visit the
market of La Señora de Africa
in the capital Santa Cruz.

Outdoors, ambling along

series Poldark, filmed earlier
this year at sites including
St Agnes Head with its
iconic engine house, the
bleak Bodmin Moor and the
beach at Church Cove. For

The delight of Devon
Yes, Devon is nice in summer, but how
much of the real Devon will you actually
see beyond the crowds during this busy
period? Going between September and
May will not only allow you the luxury
of space and time to discover all that the
county has to offer, it will also let you meet
the locals and get a real sense of how life
in Devon is once the tourists have left.
Barnstaple is the main town of North
Devon and also the centre of the Tarka
Trail – a 180 mile cycleway with lots of
off road sections which are perfect for an
enjoyable ride in the slightly cooler spring
or autumn months. For those who seek
slightly less active pursuits the town offers
art exhibitions, fashion shows and live
entertainment, plus the Christmas Light
Switch on is known to draw crowds from
far and wide.
Away from the town, the wild and beautiful
landscape of Dartmoor with its famous
ponies was the inspiration for Arthur
Conan Doyle’s classic, Sherlock Holmes
and The Hound of the Baskervilles and
more recently was also the backdrop for
the film War Horse. To really appreciate
the national park’s solitude, a visit in
autumn or winter is a must.
Being able to walk along a deserted beach
is one of life’s little pleasures and add in
the opportunity to include your four legged
friend and your holiday becomes a real
family event.

are all dog friendly out of season.

before you have deposited, you

week for exchange is really
easy either online or over
the phone and, of course, as
always it’s totally free to do.
2) Begin searching
our live availability
With your holiday credit in
the bank, you can now book
absolutely any available
exchange week in our
exchange pool. That’s a lot of
holidays - at any one point we
have around 15 000 weeks
available globally! But of
course this is ever changing,
with new weeks being
deposited minute by minute
and new exchanges being
confirmed at the same pace.
So, don’t worry if the holiday
you are hoping for isn’t
instantly available – it doesn’t
mean that we are never going
to be able to book it for you.

Travel Etiquette - do’s and don’ts
Not understanding or
respecting the culture
of the habitants of the
country you’re visiting is
one of the most common
bugbears tour operators

Spain
Don’t drive in sandals or flip
flops. This isn’t advised in
general, but in Spain this is
actually a criminal offence.
Do dress appropriately – Not
covering up enough in shops
and on the streets is a big
no no, especially in the more
rural areas. Unless you’re on a
beach or at the pool there’s no
reason why you shouldn’t be
respectfully covered up anyway.
Don’t complain about smoking.
Spaniards often say that people
who complain about such things
are “afraid of life”.
Do try and learn at least one
Spanish sentence – “¿habla
usted Inglés?” which is Spanish
for ‘Do you speak English?’
Asking this simple question
will not only endear you to
the locals but also prevent the
awkwardness of asking many
questions in English that aren’t
being understood.
Malta
Do relax when it comes to time
keeping, the Maltese way of
life is laid back so don’t worry
if your taxi hasn’t appeared,
unless it’s for the airport! In

way before it gets late enough

Do drive and walk carefully,
especially in the cities –
drivers seem to come from

wouldn’t think were possible,

Italians can be very critical of
their country, they’re not keen
on accepting similar criticisms
from foreigners about their

mafia or topics related to

city of Budapest. But the whole
country abounds with things to
see and do, so whether you want
outdoor adventure, culture, or
total relaxation in a nation famous
for its hot mineral springs and
spas, Hungary has it all!
Straddling the romantic Danube
River, Budapest is possibly the
most beautiful city in central
Europe. Architecturally, Budapest
is a gem, with enough baroque,
neoclassical and art nouveau
buildings to satisfy anyone’s
appetite. With parks brimming with
attractions, museums filled with
treasures, pleasure boats sailing
up and down the scenic Danube
and Turkish thermal baths belching
steam, the Hungarian capital is a
delight both by day and by night.
The food and wine are excellent,
great value, and in abundance.
Hungary, though, shouldn’t be
considered purely as a city break
destination. Lake Balaton, often
called the ‘Hungarian Sea’, is
Europe’s largest body of fresh
water. At 78km long and covering
600 square km, it’s an aquaplayground big enough to cater
to holidaymakers from across
Europe. Numerous picturesque
towns with excellent tourist
facilities dot the extensive shore
line of Balaton, and many have
their own beaches and marinas.
Other regions of the country
offer nature reserves, natural
thermal springs, wonderful
castles, quaint towns and
slopes covered in vineyards
producing some of the world’s
best dessert wine. With many
resorts to choose from featuring
superb facilities and a warm
welcome, Hungary really is
a holiday destination for the
discerning traveller. Some of

With spectacular natural scenery,
rambling medieval towns and
hearty cuisine, Poland is a hugely
under-rated tourist destination
that’s really worth exploring. In
the far south of Poland, the Tatra
Mountains rise high above the
surrounding plains and nestled in
their foothills is the resort town
of Zakopane, the mountain tourist
capital of Poland. Renowned for
its fresh mountain air, Zakopane
is a well-established centre with
many attractions all year round. In
wintertime snow enthusiasts have
slopes and ski lifts at their disposal,
while in summer visitors can hike,
cycle and climb, with many paths
and trails dotting the area. For
spectacular mountain views, head
for the heights of Gubalowka Peak or
Kasprowy Wierch by cable car. Open
all year, this is a must whatever
season you visit.
Zakopane also acts as a great base
for exploring many more of the
delights of Poland, including the city
of Krakow. This former royal capital

Krakow is one of Europe’s premier
city break destinations.
No matter what time of year you
visit Poland, you will experience a
destination offering original cuisine,
fantastic people, enchanting towns

adventurous can even have a
go at paragliding or shooting

My role is
to promote
DAE, specifically within
the holiday lodge resort
market. The key focus of
my responsibility revolves
around introducing the
message of DAE to
resorts around the UK and
Europe, and explaining
the value added benefits
that embracing holiday
exchange can bring.
I generate and maintain
strong business relationships
with key staff members at
resorts, encouraging them
to promote the exchange
message to their owners
meaning more members
can deposit their weeks
within the DAE system
which in turn increases
holiday opportunities for all
DAE members.
My spare time is mostly
dedicated to my local Rugby
Club, both as a player and as
a committee member. I also
make my own fruit flavoured
gin, and have a keen interest in
aviation. My hope is to one day
attain my private pilot’s license.

I give all the team performance

On the rare occasions when

ensure that we do everything
we possibly can to sort it to
the satisfaction of the member
(and indeed to DAE) and to
this end, thankfully we can
honestly say that our track
record of resolving any issues
is outstandingly good.
Each call we make is
different and every member
has a different story to tell
which we love to hear. My
team sit next to the Resort
Services Managers so we’re
always bobbing into their
office to get members extra
information on the resorts,
even down to how fluffy the
towels are! Working at DAE
is extremely satisfying and
finding a member a specific
week they’re looking for is a
great feeling for all of us.
My spare time is mostly
enjoyed walking, especially in
our wonderful Yorkshire Dales
perhaps sampling the delights of
a local hostelry at the end of it.
My spare time is filled with
social events with the rest of
the DAE Team and spending
time with family and friends.
I also love music and festivals
and watching any motor
sports with my dad.
I also enjoy cryptic crosswords,
knitting, socialising with family
and friends and theatre.
