EAS CAP Terminology
Transmitter Site: An AM, FM, or TV transmitter location. Normally a remote unmanned
building with high voltage transmitter, remote control monitoring equipment, and a tower.
Downlink: Satellite downlink used for receiving SCPC digital audio, DVB video, or DVB
MCPC audio for program retransmission.
Remote Control: IP-based remote control monitoring system, i.e. Burk remote control
for monitoring critical transmitter and antenna functions as required by the FCC. Allows you
to command and control all your transmitters from a central location.
EAS: Emergency Alert System, Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA)
system requiring broadcast AM, FM, and TV stations to rebroadcast emergency alert
notices from government agencies.
CAP: Common Alerting Protocol, a common IP-based protocol allowing local, state, and
federal agencies to use common servers to disseminate public warning and emergency
messages.
