Here are some of the stamps we’re working on right now for Canada’s 150th birthday. First, we’ll wrap up the UNESCO World Heritage Sites series with a final year of definitives, crow about the Year of the Rooster and honour Black History month with a stamp featuring Mathieu Da Costa – thought to be the first African to set foot on Canadian soil. Our Daisy stamps bloom in March and, in April, Canada Post will celebrate the 100 th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. There’s more … like the concluding set in our Canadian Photography series and the Canadian Opera issue, which we hope results in a resounding “bravo!” Plus we’ll skate to the finals with stamps celebrating the centennial anniversaries of both the National Hockey League ® and the legendary Toronto Maple Leafs®. Perennial favourite s like our Communit y Foundation stamp and Christmas stamps are still on the roster and, of course, we’ll be celebrating Canada’s special year with a few other surprises along the way. We think it’s going to be a super sesquicentennial for stamps (say that three times quickly!). They’re back! Collectors will shiver in delight (and maybe even leave a nightlight on) with the release of the third set in the Haunted Canada series. Once again, designers Lionel Gadoury and Kammy Ahuja along with illustrator Sam Weber have evoked the (dark) arts to bring us five fiendishly frightening stamps and a fearsome array of collectibles. Curious about the five tales of terror told in this issue? Continue reading, if you dare ... Who knew that Newfoundland and Labrador was home to a shape-shifting succubus? It’s said that many a farmer has been scared witless by the Hag of Bell Island, who appears as a beautiful maiden to lure her prey into the murky marsh before transforming into a horrific (and less-thanhospitable) hag. If you’re approached by the Lady in White of Montmorency Falls, don’t touch her gown! The people of Charlottetown still speak of the day that a ship’s bell rang out at a local church with no one around but four women clad in ghostly white. Were the Phantom Ringers of the Kirk of Saint James – who disappeared into thin air – forewarning the deaths of four women who drowned that day in the sinking of the Fairy Queen steamer? The cook at a logging camp near the Dungarvon River reputedly kept his life savings in a money belt that he wore at all times. That was until one winter morning, when the loggers returned from the bush 6 D E TA I L S 5 | S E P T E M B E R 2 016 to find him dead on the floor – and his belt nowhere to be found. Hastily buried in the nearby forest, the Dungarvon Whooper’s unmerciful cries can still be heard in the Miramichi area around dusk. Says designer Lionel Gadoury, “Having been able to delve into 15 of our nation’s most richly nuanced tales and bring them to life with master illustrator Sam Weber has been a thrill like no other. All things must come to an end, but our fascination with the unknown is eternal. I hope Canadians and collectors are inspired by this final set and take time to share their own haunted tales with family and friends.” From Canada or the U.S. 1-800-565-4362 $250 $250 Postcard Postcard 262453 262455 $250 $250 Postcard Postcard 262454 262456 $1250 Postcards (set of 5) 262458* Not shown $250 Postcard * Online and mail order only 262457 See page 8 for 2014 and 2015 Haunted Canada products still available. That’s exactly what internationally recognized art director Andrew Lewis was thinking when he created the adorable little birds that adorn this year’s semi-postal fundraising stamps for the Canada Post Community Foundation. This marks the first time that Canada Post has issued two differently coloured versions of the same stamp design for the Foundation’s annual fundraising campaign – five of each are included in the booklet of 10. Another first was the decision to issue two Official First Day Covers. The Foundation provides funding to local and national non-profit groups dedicated to serving the needs of children and youth. The extra dollar paid by customers for each booklet goes directly to the Foundation, which recently awarded $1.2 million in funding to grassroots and community-based child and youth organizations across the country. Over the past four years, the Foundation has contributed approximately $5 million in assistance to libraries, breakfast programs, anti-bullying initiatives, sports clubs, and other programs and organizations, including Kids Help Phone, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, and Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. $950 Booklet of 10 stamps 414020111 $195 First day of issue special envelope $195 First day of issue special envelope 414020131 414021131 Product Denomination Size Quantity Booklet of 10 stamps 2 x PermanentTM (domestic rate) + 10¢ donation 32 mm x 32 mm 150,000 Printing process Official First Day Cover 2 x PermanentTM (domestic rate) + 10¢ donation 190 mm x 112 mm 8,000 Cancellation site: Ottawa ON Official First Day Cover 2 x PermanentTM (domestic rate) + 10¢ donation 190 mm x 112 mm 8,000 Cancellation site: Ottawa ON Lithography in 7 colours Design: Andrew Lewis Design | Illustration: Andrew Lewis | Printing: Lowe-Martin Ready to place an order?
