Dental Digest www.MyAuroraDentist.com February 2013 A quarterly Patient Newsletter For Aurora Dental Petals and Pearls Boutique and Party In A Cup: A one-stop shop for fun décor and special celebrations I Stephanie Castellano sips tea as she waits for her tea party guests to arrive t’s rare enough to wander into one truly unique store, but Stephanie Castellano has managed to create two distinctive businesses inside her Aurora shop. Petals and Pearls Boutique is a wonderland of vintage and antique home furnishings, jewelry, handbags and garden accessories, as well as housing a candy room with hand-dipped truffles, French candies, lavender honey-filled drops, lollipops and more. Not to leave Fido out, Petals and Pearls stocks gourmet doggie treats, too. Of her eclectic, always-interesting array, Castellano says, “I loved the idea of having a place where people could find unusual, handmade, interesting pieces to beautify their home. I’ve also worked really hard to make it all affordable.” Some of the most in-demand items at Petals and Pearls have turned out to be jewelry, of which she naturally carries a style for every bailey goes to college I guess I really didn’t have much choice about my topic this month. February is Dog Training Education Month, International Boost Self-Esteem Month, International Expect Success Month, and Responsible Pet Owners Month – so I’m going to encourage you to make sure your dog gets to go to college. Yes, we dogs maintain our own system of higher education. No, I haven’t gone 'S BAILEY BLOG the college route myself yet. (Dr. Caputo said tuition is THROUGH THE ROOF. Funny, I always thought that was the pesky neighborhood squirrel.) But I know a lot about collegiate life because my cousin Hank is a BMOC (Bull Mastiff On Campus). Certainly doggie universities are modeled on the human ones, but some things had to be changed. No self-respecting dog would study the “humanities” when there are professors capable of teaching the “canine-ities.” Of course your pooch will have to pass one of the two major college entrance exams. So they need to “bone up” before taking either the ACT (Ability Chasing Toyotas) or SAT (Sniffing Area Tinkles). Be sure to send your dog to a reputable » turn to page 2 Bailey is Dr. Caputo’s golden retriever dog. When he heard that we were starting our own printed newsletter, he jumped and down and begged to have his own column. We got tired of the whining and finally gave in. Don’t blame us if he’s not always “politically correct”. We’re too busy helping Dr. Caputo keep patient’s teeth healthy to always be monitoring what Bailey is up to. When her shop debuted last June, Castellano decided to offer another aspect—another business, really—to inject even more delight into customers’ lives. Party In A Cup specializes in private tea parties celebrating everything from baby and bridal showers to birthdays. This isn’t just another tearoom; in fact, it’s by appointment only, allowing Castellano and her staff to customize every last detail. “I want each person’s experience to be special—just for them,” she says. Another way Party In A Cup differs from runof-the-mill tearooms is that its proprietor knows a thing or two about tea. Castellano, who is of English and Irish decent, has been “taking tea,” as she says, and making scones her whole life. She compares her businesses to the experiences she’s had as a patient of Dr. Caputo: completely unique and lots of fun. Oh, and refreshingly un-trendy. “As far as trends go, I’m probably the only one not following them,” she admits. But like her favorite dentist, her go-yourown-way approach has led to plenty of success and a long list of happy customers. Aurora OH 44202 Dental Digest February is a the big month for hearts A merican Heart Month may be the most important healthrelated event of the year. At least we think so, because we have a "heartfelt" concern for you. Take a few minutes away from your work to consider what you personally can do to keep your heart strong and beating regularly. Even if you know the drill, check your blood pressure, decide if you'd be healthier if you lost a few pounds, and figure out whether those potato chips and cookies are your best choice for break time. They're loaded with cholesterol! The next thing in the month of hearts is Valentine's Day. Make your sweetheart or partner know you care by giving a card or a flower (forget the candy because you'll eat your share of that). If your sweetheart's happy, chances are that you'll be happy too. When it comes to your boss and your co-workers, be sure to "have a heart" for them. Try to understand where they're coming from and what they're dealing with. Offer to help if you can. A pleasant "good morning" can move you and your co-workers toward a polite and caring day. Who could be rude after that nice greeting? We know you don't have to be reminded to put your heart into your work. You're probably already doing it, which explains why you're making such an important contribution to the organization. Bailey's Blog from PAGE 1 institution and not a diploma mill. Hey, you know how puppy mills produce puppies and diploma mills produce diplomas? Well, I used to think that General Mills turned out GENERALS! (Let’s keep this PRIVATE, but I made a MAJOR booboo.) You’ll have to help your pooch decide his aptitudes. He might be cut out for a science and technology focus or then again he might benefit more from a liberal “arfs” college. Some classes and instructors are super tough (saying “My master shredded my dissertation” won’t cut it), but then there are others that are extremely simple. Like Public Speaking. All the teacher has to do is drill 2 Be the 100th person to "Like" our Facebook Page and win a $25 gas card Find us on Facebook at Aurora Dental Associates I Check your leadership style t's good to know that, whatever your main leadership style may be, you don't have to stick with it in all situations. Check these styles and decide when it will be best for you to use them. * The autocratic style. Also called the directive style, it calls for telling people what to do and expecting them to do it immediately. Usually, it works well with a new employee who has no experience in your field and needs a lot of direction. * The participative style. It includes input from others and working with them in decision making and problem solving. It gives you an opportunity to judge how well they are developing. * The hands-off style. It provides employees with the opportunity to determine a process and to affect into you “Public speak! Public speak!” Of course the Speech & Theater department also has opportunities for budding thespians to “tread the boards.” Some of my favorite plays include “Cat On A Hot Tin Roof (Hope He Falls Off),” “The Garbageman Cometh,” “Sundays In The Park With Frisbee,” “Fleaspray,” “Bring In Da Noise, DON’T Bring In Da Roadkill,” “Jersey Good Boys,” and “The Importance of Biting Ernest.” Canines with a knack for journalism will want to try out for the student newspaper. The aforementioned Hank tried it, but the only scoop he brought in was one for KIBBLE. A quarterly Patient Newsletter For Aurora Dental the outcome. It works especially well with seasoned salespeople who take initiative. You will want to avoid secondguessing, which can harm the salesperson's performance. * The individualized style. You decide how much direction an individual needs in a certain situation and how much of your leadership is required. An experienced person may not need much direction. But when circumstances call for it, you need to lay it on the line to solve a problem. Most bosses and managers can determine what type of leadership should be used in each situation and with each individual. The tricky part is choosing the right style for the right person under the right circumstances. Dogs should not get sucked in by the misleading advertising of college, however. My friend Bingo put in all the extra effort to earn a so-called “master’s degree” and STILL wasn’t allowed on the sofa. If your dog decides to join a fraternity or sorority, he/she should be prepared for HAZING. That might consist of having CLOTHES put on them and being paraded across campus, or engaging in a chug-alug contest with one of those politically incorrect super-flush toilets. If your dog can tough it out academically, you’ll have to throw him a lavish graduation party, with banners announcing “The Dog Did It!” Okay, so that plan needs work… Visit us on Facebook and Twitter In spite of his victory speech NASCAR champ expected to bring a new era to stock car racing B rad Keselowski celebrated his NASCAR points title on ESPN sipping from an enormous beer glass and playfully tossing around compliments laced with some of the gentler cuss words. At that point, some doubted that the 28-year-old could become the chief ambassador of the sport. But the interview video went viral and it soon became apparent the new champ could possibly usher in a new era for racing. Detroit native Keselowski is a "free spirit who can alternate between the cerebral and charmingly goofy as quickly as his crew changes tires," according to Nate Ryan of USA Today Sports. Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick says the new champ lives for racing and is focused on the team, not just his own role in it. According to the Los Angeles Times, Keselowski won't even be keeping his enormous NASCAR trophy on the home fireplace. The trophy will be kept at Penske Racing so the whole team can enjoy it. According to comments provided by Ford Racing, Keselowski said he doesn't keep trophies at his house. "I don't believe in building a shrine to myself. It's kind of weird." Penske has switched from Dodge to Ford cars for 2013. NASCAR owners and enthusiasts hope Keselowski's brassy youthfulness will attract a whole new category of young, hip fans to racing. It's a fact Getting NFL players to sleep T o make sure players are wide awake and energetic for games, at least three NFL teams organize snooze time and place. In order to acclimate players to Eastern time, San Francisco moved its team to an Ohio hotel before a game with the New York Jets. The Jets pre-set the room temperatures to the preferred 68 degrees in all hotel rooms. And the Baltimore Ravens begin practices later to help players acclimate to West-Coast time. Choosing the right gift for Valentine's Day or birthday Y ou could be surprised to learn what type of gift the recipient will really appreciate. A study reported in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology shows that cash was appreciated by recipients even more than the gift they had originally asked for. The journal also says that when it comes to engagement rings, a larger diamond doesn't always bring greater appreciation. In another finding, they say choosing a thoughtful, heartfelt gift makes the giver feel closer to the recipient, but the recipient doesn't necessarily TEL. NO. 330-562-3400 feel closer to the giver.
