ev. J. Scott Shaw was elected District Superintendent on the third ballot
at the Intermountain District Assembly, April 30, 2015. He has been Senior Pastor of Bremerton First Church of the Nazarene, Bremerton, WA for
22 years. He pastored in Pasco, WA for 8 years before moving to Bremerton.
Rev. Shaw is a graduate of both Northwest Nazarene College (now University) and Nazarene Theological Seminary.

Scott grew up in a parsonage. Both his grandfather and father were pastors. He received Christ
as his Savior, as a boy of 10 years, at the altar of
the church on a Sunday evening. As a high school
student he had a great deal of athletic success but
did not find that it satisfied the deep longing of his
heart. He came to realize that God wanted his full
devotion. “I remember coming before Him and
offering my life as a ‘living sacrifice’,” Scott says.
“In that moment I remember the Spirit flooding
my life with an amazing sense of God’s presence
and an inner peace filling my heart freeing me of
the inner struggle that I once carried. I realized
that something had happened within me whereby
my life was fully ‘hidden with Christ in God’.”
Following high school graduation Scott came to
NNC with a desire to be a teacher and a coach, determined to take a different path than his grandfather and father. However God had a different
plan and began dealing with Scott’s heart. In his
sophomore year, during a chapel service, God’s
call upon his life became very clear. He immediately changed his major and was able to graduate
from NNC with a degree in religion. Following
his education at NNC and NTS he was ordained
in 1986.
We
Rev. Shaw describes himself as a “churchman” and
a “sports fan.” He has served on the District Advisory Board, NNU’s Board of Trustees, NNU’s Executive Committee, as well as the WaPac district
in leadership capacities. Scott is a good administrator, visionary leader, team player, and team
builder. Scott describes himself as a ”’big picture’
guy (with) a great need to gather around me those
who have gifts working with the details.” What really fires him up is discovering the ways that God
can transform his life and the lives of those around
him into the likeness of Jesus.
Scott and his wife Vicki are deeply committed to
their marriage and their family. They have a son
(Jeffrey) living in the Seattle area and a daughter (Katelyn) and son-in-law who have recently moved to Italy. Vicki grew up in Prosser, WA
where her parents were committed laypersons.
She attended both NNC and Eastern Washington
University. She has a degree in Dental Hygiene.
Vicki is a strong and quiet leader with a great burden that people pray. Rev. and Mrs. Shaw will be
joining the Intermountain District family in early
June.

were so very thoughtful. You could not have done more to make us feel loved
and appreciated. Thank you for the wonderful reception, the many cards, the
personal expressions of thanks, and the incredibly generous gift of the 2014
Toyota Highlander. Nampa is our home and the Intermountain District is our
district family, so we will enjoy the years ahead as we see God at work in your
lives and churches. I am very pleased to be able to pass the “DS baton” to my
friend Scott Shaw. Although we are not yet making specific plans, we know God will continue to lead in
our lives and use us in ways that He sees fit. We love you all.

As part of the District Assembly program, you were given
the opportunity to meet the
directors of the children and teen camps. We
have received many nice compliments about
this. I am glad you enjoyed putting a face with
the name. Thanks to the many who picked up
prayer cards to pray specifically for each of our
summer camps. We know it makes a big difference.
Work Week ’15 is scheduled for Thursday, May
21 – Sunday, May 24. We have several small
projects planned in addition to the usual cleaning, mowing, weeding, spraying, and overall
maintenance of the buildings and property to
be ready for the summer camp season. We are
scheduled to put up the worship tent Friday
morning at 10:00. This is a big project and we
can use many hands. You may not be able to
spend the entire week but join us for a day or
two. We look forward to your participation in
Work Week ’15. Be sure and call the camp at
208-382-6200 and make your reservation so
we have space reserved for lodging and food.
