Paramount Café Celebrates 30 Years of Success Denver, CO 2015 marks the 30th year in business for Paramount Café on Downtown Denver’s 16th Street Mall. They are celebrating each month leading up to their 30 year anniversary bash in August with decade themed action -‐-‐ 80s in April, 90s in May, and so on -‐-‐ marked with music, trivia, retro games, roll-‐back prices, and movies. When they party, it’s a big affair! Paramount Café opened a few years after the inauguration of the 16th Street Mall and was one of the few downtown bars in 1985. Friday nights were a standing-‐room-‐only haven for singles; Denver locals flocked in for cheap drinks, great music, and a party heavy atmosphere. Over the years, Paramount Café has cemented its reputation as Denver’s original Rock ‘n’ Roll Café hosting a steady stream of comedians, models, rock stars, and sports icons. Original team members recall serving a table of grungy guys, only to find out it was Nine Inch Nails. Tom Selleck, Ice-‐T, Greg Louganis, Eddie Money, the Broncos “Three Amigos”, and Pat Reilly were all guests, and one bartender fondly remembers Chris Farley, belly up to the bar after a show. Before it gained a reputation as a restaurant hot spot it was the original grand entrance and lobby of the historic Paramount Theatre. With the present entrance located around the corner on Glenarm Place, the former lobby now serves as the Paramount Café's wrap-‐around bar. The Art Deco terrazzo tile floor and ornate hand crafted gilt work are original features of the gorgeous 1930s theater. Take a look above the main bar area of the Paramount today and you’ll see vestiges of Denver’s golden age. In more recent years, Goldie’s Deli, another downtown icon, was transformed into the Paramount Café “Backstage” now used for seating, private parties, and large events. John Ott and Mike Plancarte, current owners of Paramount Café, invite past employees, guests, friends, locals, and visitors alike to join them in celebrating the previous 30 years of nostalgia and the next 30 looking to the future. Provide them with stories from your past and keep up with tales from theirs on the ParamountCafeDenver Facebook page. -‐###-‐
