Wait for Me, Daddy Redux
Wait for Me, Daddy is one of the most
recognized photographs in the world and has
become an icon of New Westminster. The
image, which became integral to Canada’s
effort in WWII, was captured by Claude P.
Dettloff 75 years ago this October. To celebrate,
the City of New Westminster is commissioning
a contemporary response to the classic image.
Join us at Anvil Theatre on October 3rd for
three exhilarating performances. The event
will feature composer Brian Garbett and
the University of Calgary Wind Ensemble,
a community-engaged theatre work by Jan

exhibition are by turn funny, ironic, clever,
playful and exuberant. From the depths of the
pit, to the meandering travels of a soap bubble,
to a cinematic horror chase, these works will
have you rolling on the floor or running for the
door. You won’t want to miss this one!
This exhibition marks the end of the summer
exhibition cycle, and the darker side of light. The
works in 5600K literally revolve around white
light and human perception. Gunda Förster’s
Circle is a spellbinding light that circles on a
pendulum and creates moments and places of
uncanny theatre. In Light Reading; 1500
cinematic explosions, Elizabeth McAlpine
searches cinema for explosions that results in a
video work of explosive white light and white
noise. In the austere, circular cage of the Neon
Circle, Carsten Holler creates a space of
transformation. The viewer is encircled within a
pulsating cage of light. Holler pushes our limits;
body, brain + eye...challenging our abilities to
perceive and react within a profoundly
disruptive environment.

Join Body Narrative Collective in transforming
the studio into a photographic darkroom for a
workshop on the Photogram. A photogram is a
photographic process that does not require a
camera. Arranging objects and/or people on
light-sensitive paper creates photograms.
Chemistry then fixes exposed papers to create a
permanent image. Participants will get to keep
photogram(s) made using cyanotype, a bluetoned iron-based, paper. Please bring in objects
of variable translucency, negatives and/or
printed transparencies that you would like to
compose your image with. The workshop will
also include group collaborations to create larger

and use the objects in the Museum’s collection
as an entry-point to inquiry, discussion and
exploration about the City.
