senses will be heightened as DIFFA Chicago proudly presents
our own Dining by Design 2014 ••• beauty and the feast.
This one-of-a-kind, spectacular event will assemble some of the most talented and celebrated
designers in Chicago and feature imaginative installations festooned with incredible tabletop
creations. In addition, top chefs and restaurants in Chicago will tempt your tastebuds by bringing
together the best of the city’s culinary offerings. A feast for the eyes and the palate, BEAUTY AND THE
FEAST will surely be a sensory sensation featuring three incredible days of design, dining and all that
is DIFFA/Chicago.
Designers will be paired with our generous Table Hosts to create three-dimensional dining installations that are works of art. With a 10’ X10’ area acting as a blank canvas, the designers will create
unimaginable table environments. Each table is meant to engage the viewer, allowing them to glimpse
the intimate, unknown or unexpected through the artful genius of its creator. And what table would
be complete without food and drink? Fabulous wines, creative cocktails and exceptional fare will
be featured throughout DIFFA’S Dining by Design 2014 - BEAUTY AND THE FEAST – with delicious surprises all
along the way.
Sensational Design with a Sustainable Mission diffa/chicago continues to seek ways to set a higher
bar in support of the communities we serve. A new initiative at DIFFA’s DINING BY DESIGN challenges our
sponsors and designers to tap their limitless talents while meeting our sustainability goals. Each
spectacular DBD table installation has a sustainable mission to reuse. repurpose. recycle. We invite
you to join us this year to not only celebrate incredible design but also to generate zero waste.

DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS is one of the largest funders of HIV/AIDS
service and education programs in the U.S. Since its founding in 1984, DIFFA has mobilized the
immense resources of the design communities to provide over $40 million to hundreds of AIDS
organizations nationwide.
Starting with volunteers from fashion, interior design, furnishings, contractors and architecture,
supporters of DIFFA now come from every field associated with fine design. With 15 chapters
nationwide, DIFFA has also been an innovative agent in drawing local and national corporations
into the fight against the epidemic, and enjoys tremendous support from the design community.
DIFFA/Chicago is a grant giving organization that provides Excellence in Care Grants
to Chicago-area service providers. A team consisting of a professional in that field and a DIFFA/
Chicago board member review each agency applying for funding. Review of proposals is followed by site visits and interviews with the organizations’ staff. We fund in the categories of advocacy and education, health and clinical services, meals and nutrition, housing, and support and
counseling. The agencies shown to provide the best care receive an unrestricted grant.
DIFFA grants funds to organizations which fight AIDS by providing:
• Preventive education programs targeted to populations at risk of infection
• Treatment and direct-care service for people living with AIDS
• Public policy initiatives which add resources to private sector efforts
Drawing on the contributions of world-renowned creative and corporate leaders, DIFFA’s fundraising activities are among the most celebrated in AIDS philanthropy. Through special events and
“passive royalty” arrangements, DIFFA raises money for the battle against AIDS like no other
organization can. This unique position has enabled DIFFA to cement its reputation for innovation
by rallying diverse communities to a common purpose.
DIFFA/Chicago is an Illinois 501(c)(3) and was formed by members across all areas of the design
disciplines and associated design industries. As the need for funding continues to grow, the
membership of DIFFA/Chicago expands to include more areas of the community both design and
non-design related. Through broadening the pool of membership, we have been able to secure
greater amounts of corporate sponsorship, as well as providing an opportunity for individual
donors to contribute their time, creativity and energy.
The DIFFA/Chicago chapter distributes funds to Chicago area AIDS service agencies who
assist men, women and children affected by AIDS and HIV-related illnesses. Since 1987, DIFFA/
Chicago has awarded grants totaling over $4 million. In Chicago, our funding has focused on
those agencies that demonstrate extraordinary effectiveness in achieving their chosen missions
in the HIV/AIDS arena. The DIFFA/Chicago granting process selects agencies providing the best
care possible in Chicago and the ability to put dollars where they have the most impact to help
the men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS.

DIFFA/Chicago’s fundraising process includes a series of events throughout the
calendar year driven by dedicated professionals inside and outside the design industries. One
of our most exciting fundraising events is the popular annual DBD 3-day event – created to
generate maximum funding potential for the DIFFA/Chicago Excellence in Care grant program.
In order to reach the goals established for BEAUTY AND THE FEAST, DIFFA/Chicago requires
committed organizations to generously provide their support through table sponsorships,
cash donations and in-kind donations. It is only through successful fundraising events that
the giving potential for the Excellence in Care Awards is achieved and the DIFFA/Chicago
endowment campaign is funded.
Beginning in 2005, DIFFA/Chicago has used moneys raised to create the basis for an ongoing endowment campaign. The Endowment Campaign is working to rally $1,000,000 by 2020
through portions of event proceeds and direct funding to the endowment. DIFFA/Chicago is
seeding the effort with an annual contribution goal of $100,000 toward this endowment fund.
The Endowment Campaign is geared to ensure higher levels of granting and a platform that
will guarantee a long life for our organization and the Excellence in Care Awards given every
year. This fund needs daring and serious philanthropists to join with us in creating the
endowment fund.
