Greetings All, it’s May, spring is here,
but I think someone forgot to tell Mother
Nature? First of all I must apologize for
wrongly saying in last month’s issue that
Keith Pooler proposed to Lady Candy, it
should be Lady Connie. She may be as
sweet as candy but her name is Connie, so
sorry for the confusion.
Lady Brenda and I want to thank all
who attended the Pink Party, it was a huge
success and fun for all. We want to thank
our Second Section for the great meal,
our Aides for the great refreshments, the
Retro Rockerz for the music and dancing
entertainment, and Photo Booths of Maine
for the photo booth donation. May is also
Circus month, by the time you’re reading
this we’re probably in the middle of the
Circus, hopefully everyone is pitching in
and helping to make the event a success?
Don’t forget May 16th, pre-screening
clinics in Anahland as well as our second
annual Hospital night, please support
these events, it’s all about the kids.
CALENDARS, where are they? 3,000
calendars are printed and just over 2,000
have been sold and returned. There is
still eight months of prices totaling about
$10,000.00 to be paid out and with over
900 our there somewhere we can use
the money for the budget. As of May 1st
they will be half price, that’s right $10.00
and with over 900 out there that’s over
$9,000.00 to help Anah. If you don’t think
you can sell the calendars please return
them to the Recorder’s office, we will be
pushing the big half price sale.

approaching, make your plans, Director

By the time you read this the Bangor
Circus will be in progress or have just
ended, so a big “thank you” to all Nobles
and their ladies who participated to make
this such a success for Anah. A special
thank you to Circus Director Denny Hill
and his hard working Circus Committee
which made this possible.
You have also received a notice
concerning a special meeting commencing
at 6 pm, May 11 at 1404 Broadway, Bangor,
for a discussion and vote to authorize
Anah Shriners to sell our existing building
and purchase the building located at 1404
Broadway, Bangor. This will give you an
opportunity to see the building and ask
questions before the vote. **Your current
paid dues card will be required.**
Also on May 19 will be our Stated
Meeting, with dinner being served at 6
pm, our stated meeting at 7 pm, followed
by an update on temple activities by our
Potentate and others. All Unit Heads and
Club Presidents are asked and required to
attend, along with all interested Shriners.
Please wear your fez. Donations for dinner
will be requested.
May 16 will be the Shrine Hospital
Screening Clinics in different areas of
Anah’s jurisdiction. Check with the
Shrine Club in your area to see if help is
needed. Also that same evening Hospital
Night will be held at the temple with
Divan member and Chairman of our
Membership Committee, Doug Dulac in
charge. Please plan to attend as he has an
exciting evening planned cumulating with
dancing. All money raised will go to our
Shrine Hospitals.
May 29 our Springfield Doctors and staff
will be at Eastern Maine Medical Center
for our annual follow-up clinic. This is
under the direction by our Chief Rabban
Bob Turner and Lady Bonnie.
As you know, our Summer Ceremonial
is fast approaching during the weekend
of June 18, 19 and 20, so if you haven’t
made your reservations, please get in touch
with Yogi Seymour. Also, you will need
a paid dues card to attend all Ceremonial
functions, so make sure your dues are
current. If not, please go to our website:
www.anahshriners.org, come into the
office, call us, or send your dues payment
by mail. We accept all credit cards (except
American Express) online, by phone, in the
mail, or in the office.

Annual Golf Tournament and Steak Feed
is almost upon us. Please come and enjoy
the game, the food, the prizes, the fun, the
comradery and last but not least, the 8th

The March meeting was held on the 10th
at Ed Pellon Center in Machias. Meeting
was called to order at 7:00 by Captain
Carroll Chandler. Members in attendance
were Secretary Scott Johnson; Treasurer
Bill Sinford, your once again elected
Reporter, Bill Geel, Rear Admiral Runtz
Farnsworth, Noble Doug Monson, and
Noble Ray Ellis. Old and new business
was discussed. The unit voted and took
in a new member, Noble Scott Edgerly
who is looking forward to parading the
rough seas this season with us. His Lady
is Naomi and we all looking forward to
meeting her and showing her what we are
all about. The next meeting will be May
12th More to come next month.
Remember Runtz, we are counting
on your yard being plowed when we
start moving boats around getting them
seaworthy for the upcoming season. Do
we still have to bring snow shovels? How’s
the sunshine coming down that way? It’s
been a long, cold winter. It was nice to see
Noble Ray Ellis out at the last meeting.
Hope he’s able to make more meetings
with the weather warming up. It’s almost
safe for any of you snowbunnies who are
thinking about returning.

meeting as our newest member. He was

be joining the Properties Section. Glad to
have you with us folks.
The March meeting at Anglers in
Hampden was a nice affair. We had about
22 people in attendance. It was a pretty
quick meeting with not too much on the
agenda. Mainly another great time to get
together and enjoy good fellowship.
Steve Mosley would like to say the
following: “Circus will have come and
gone by the time this Anahgram comes
out, and I want to thank everyone that
helped pull it off. The circus can’t happen
without the Nobles and Ladies of Anah
making it happen. They are the backbone
of the operation and generously give their
time to make it a success year after year.
Thanks again.” Yes, thanks to everyone
for helping with the circus. And thanks to
Steve and the rest of the circus leadership
for administering this huge event.
In the next issue I’ll tell you about my
April family trip to Florida which, as of
this writing, we haven’t embarked on yet
but are good and ready for especially after
this very llllllllllllllllong Maine winter.
Speaking of the long Maine winter, on
Sat. April 4th Donnie Copeland offered
the following advice: “Yesterday was our
spring/summer. (A Friday that made it to
about 60 degrees.) Today’s snow was the
start of the 2015/16 winter. Next winter is
officially only 200-odd days away so
don’t bother takin’ out the lawnmower.
Just leave the snowblower on.” Well
Donnie, as of this writing and with the
weather we’ve had this weekend (April
4th-5th), you may be on to something. J

Tri County Shrine Club held their
monthly meeting on the 18th of March at
the Dexter Club. We had 21 Nobles in
attendance. After the Libation Hour under
the Director Of Libations Noble Scott
Folsom, the meeting was called to order
by President Dan Costain. Invocation was
given by Noble “BoBo” Donald Young.
Flag Salute was led by the President. After
a great meal of Roast Pork and all the
fixings, the following were introduced.
Head Table: Vice President Arthur Watson,
Treasurer Marty Taylor and Secretary
Dave Mosley. Also at the head table was
Chief Director Dan Costain. Unit Heads in
attendance were Scott Folsom of the
4X4’s and Dick Dunham of the
Convertibles. Aide Emeritous Ron Green
was introduced. Gracing the Club with his
presence and cooking abilities was Past
Potentate “2013” F. Lee Kaufman. Winner
of the McNaughton 50/50 was none other
than Noble Randy McNaughton. Noble
Randy has won the last two months and
both times donated his share back to the

As you read this article it is now May and
we have finally lost the snowy and cold
weather. It sure was a long winter here in
Down East Maine. It will soon be time
to get our four wheelers and side by sides
ready to go as the trails will be opening
soon. Get out and enjoy riding with fellow
shriners and friends. Remember to keep
yourselves safe on the trails. Green grass,
gardening, and time at the lake will be much
welcomed after the many months of frigid
and cold snowy weather.
Our condolences go to Noble Mike Beal
and his family on the passing of Kimmy.
She fought a brave battle and was loved by
many. There was standing room only at the
celebration of her life at Narraguagus High
School which attested to that.
Our April meeting was the Divan visitation
and was held at the Addison Town Hall on
April 2nd. As usual, steak, baked potatoes,
peas, salad, and home made apple pie was

I have heard numerous reports on
Potentate Jesse and Lady Brenda’s cruise
and what a wonderful time everyone had.
I did not attend the Annual Casino Night or
The Pink Party but also heard good reports
from both of those events as well. An
evening out with fellow Shriners is always
a great time!
There will be a meeting held on May 12th
at 6 p.m. at the Shrine Center to discuss
the 2016 Potentates Trip to Rivera Maya,
Mexico with the travel agent. Bob and
Bonnie hope to see many of you at this
meeting.
There will be Screening Clinics held on
May 16th at Anah in Bangor; Aroostook
Shrine Center in Presque Isle; Mayo
Orthopedics in Dover Foxcroft; Walso
County Hospital in Belfast; Downeast
Community Hospital in Machias; Calais
Regional Hospital in Calais; all from 9
to 12 noon. There will also be a clinic at
Eastern Maine Medical Center on May
29th for follow-up care for patients that
have already been to a Shrine Hospital.
Applications are available on-line or may
be obtained from a Shriner. If you know of
someone who needs to be evaluated, please
contact them and get them to attend.
The June Ceremonial will be held in
Ellsworth June 18-21 and a wonderful
weekend has been planned. The
headquarters for the event will be the
Ramada Inn. There will be bus service from
the other hotels to the Ramada. The Hotel
Reservation form was in the last issue of
the Anahgram and those planning to spend
the night need to send in their form to Earl
Seymour. Don’t hesitate or the rooms may
be all gone. I look forward to seeing many
familiar faces in Ellsworth that weekend.

The April 7th meeting was a Ladies
Night at Riverside Cafe in Ellsworth.
More news to come next month. The next

Now the news I dug out of the snowbank.
Noble Tom Fernald and Lady Carol are
somewhere on the Yangtze River looking
for Paris or was it the Rhine River? While
he was away Noble Steve Fernald took
the bottom out of his ice house and has
busy trying to patch that up. Noble Jimmy
Nolan and Joelle are vacationing in the
south. Rumor has it she is retiring in the
next couple of months. Potentate Jesse
Thomas was in Northeast Harbor the
other day delivering a 50-year Shrine pin
to Gary Tyler. Bob Fernald celebrated his
birthday on March 25th. Wonder if he’s
started counting his years backward. Also
heard that Alice Fernald is giving up her
singing career to take up gardening. Past
Potentate John Fernald has been telling
me the geese have been showing up in his
yard. It must mean that Noble Bill Fernald
is on his way home. Also would like to
report to Steve Fernald that I caught that
tree that was running wild around Trenton.

March was off to a strong start with
our ongoing first Saturday appearance
at Bangor’s Home Depot Children’s
Workshop. Well over one hundred children
attended this popular event. Five of
our stalwart, dedicated, committed and
otherwise unwavering clowns were on
hand to entertain and amuse the crowd.
The five were Fou (Martin Perfit), Div-IT
(Duane Young), Boss Clown Piggy (Tom
Vanchieri), Spiffy (Kerry Spofford), and
in a special return appearance, the ever
popular Jappo (Mike Samiya).
Clown Casino Night was a success with
an unusually high number of tickets sold
at the door. I guess many of our regulars
waited until the last minute because of this
year’s unreliable weather. Pop-Fizz (Troy
Devoe) provided recorded music using his
D-J equipment. Maybe a dance is in the
offing. Watch for an announcement.
New England Shrine Clown Feztival at
the Bangor Mall was our second major
event of March. This fast growing event
was supported by our Potentate Jessie
Thomas and Potentate Rick Hersom of
Kora Shrine. The Funsters participated in
the opening parade which was led by The
Anah Highlanders Pipes & Drums. Clowns
from as far away as Luxor Temple attended.

The Air National Guard Easter Egg Roll
was held on Sunday, March 29 at The ANG
Base with Army National Guard families
invited to join. Fou (Martin Perfit) was the
solo clown for this busy event which was
planned and coordinated by Anah Shrine
Clown Unit’s Iggy in his guise of Andrew
Matlins, a civilian employee of the Maine
Air National Guard.
Congratulations go out to Jennifer
Kennard and to Phyllis Watson who
celebrate Birthdays in May. Our May
anniversary couples are Busta and Kathy
Dennis as well as Petals and Lisa Watson.

Here we are, May, its about time. It was
a long winter. We have the circus coming
up on May 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. We hope to
have our booth in the same place. June 5th
we will be doing Special Olympics, and
the next day, June 6th, we will be having
our golf tournament at the Piscataquis Golf
Course in Guilford. Hope to see you all
there. Parades this sumer may be limited,
as some towns have budget problems.
As of our meeting in April, we will be
doing Dennysville, July 3rd, Eastport,
Machias, Jonesport, and Bar Harbor, July
4th, Lincoln, and Pittsfield, July 18th, and
Harmony on September, 7th.
Anniversary wish’s this month go to two
very lucky guys, as I don’t know of any
other LADIES that would put up with them.
Paul and Rhonda Scott have been married
for, well I don’t know as Paul could not
remember the year. But Perlene has been
married to that Guy for 56 years. I have
even heard that has to bait his hook when
they go fishing! And yes his name is BOB.
Congrads to both. Birthdays this month
are Gary Sudsbury, Jesse Patterson, and
this young reporter, ME. Happy Birthday
to US all. If you can believe this, I have
spelled Capt. Scotts girl friend name wrong
agin. I think he had too many diet cokes
when he told me the first time. Her name is

As I write this in early April, I think ahead
to the Super Supper which is now over. We
hope everyone had a great time. With all the
past preparations in the last few months,
I’m sure it was a success as always and that
everyone had a grand time.
Planing is now going on for the upcoming
Ceremonial in Ellsworth. I hope that all the
snow that we had this past winter will be
gone by then. If not, I’ve got plenty of snow
shovels to go around and we’ll manage.
Happy Birthday greetings to all of you
who are celebrating their big day this
month. That goes for the Anniversary
celebrations as well. I would name all of
you, but unfortunately Lady Lorraine and
I were in such a hurry to leave the snow
and colds do head south, that I forgot the
list. The call of the sun and the beach was
just too great to resist. Please accept my
apologies.
Reporting from the sunny south, that’s
it for this month. Remember all of your
friends and family in your prayers and get
ready to put the tops down. On the cars as

Hello to all Aides and Nobles.
The MIdwinter at Lewiston went very
well. Housing Director Yogi Seymore got
us a super deal on the rooms at the Ramada
Inn. The management was very cordial to
us (I just happened to go with him) and we
have nice hospitality room for the weekend, I hope to have a good turnout from
the Unit for the weekend. It sounds like a
long way away, but it comes fst. The dates
are September 18th, 19th, and 20th.
Sometimes there isn’t much to say in
a column because we (the Aides) don’t
parade or have regular meetings but March
was a little different, When we met at the
Shrine Center for the “Pink Party” we

actually got something going for us. We
took a vote and decided to have a tree for
the Feztival of Trees this year.It might be
a little early, but we needed to do it for the
Unit to help the Shrine Center. The theme
will be camping and related items.
Noble George Alley, Noble Denny Smith,
and wives have been doing it for a couple
years and it has been succesful, everybody
that was there had ideas and the go to
persons will be George, Denny or myself
if you get items for this.
Now for the fun item. The “Pink
Party”was a huge sucess for the Aides and
me. We didn’t run out of anything and it
was a good turnout for Illustrious Sir Jesse
and Lady Brenda. Everybody wore Pink
and when you went to find Ill, Sir, you
really had to search for him in a “Sea of
Pink”. Thanks to all of the Aides that helped
at this function, it really went exceptioely
well.
Thanks to the Second Section under the
direction of Director Adam Beals and his
staff for putting on the delicious meal with
all the Hors-D’oeuvres. I know it’s a lot of
work, but ti was very good and the Aides
enjoyed it.
Now comes the June Ceremony. This
is going to be held in Ellsworth June
20th,21st, and 22nd . This is an offcial
Shrine Function, and we all need to be
there if at all possible. The rooms will be
going fast as everything is being held at the
Ramada Inn. It is our offcial headquarters
for the whole weekend. Try to get your
rooms early through Yogi Seymore at 9891294.
Friday night the Hospitality Room will
be hosted by the Hancock County Shrine
Club, but some of us may be asked to help
out. Saturday. the parade will be in our
Black Tux, Black Shoes, and Fez. Before
the Parade I’d like to have everbody get
together for a group picture, as it’s been a
while and we have some new members.

I have to start this month’s article by
saying I missed last month but I had a very
good reason. Leni and I were on Jesse’s “
Pink Panther Cruise”. What a time was had
by all 120 people that joined Brenda and
Jesse on their mid winter break from all
the snow and cold weather for a boat ride
in the Gulf of Mexico. I have been trying
to talk Leni into taking a cruise for years,
she hates any kind of water, but when she
heard about Jesse’s trip and the fact that her
daughter Nancy and Mike were going she
agreed reluctantly to go. It took her about
a day to get used to the motion of the boat
but after that she really enjoyed herself.
Quite a few members of the Directors Staff
went on the cruise I’ll try and name them:
Our chief Dan Costain and lady Lancy;
Tom Frost and lady Janice; Bruce Clarke
and lady Trudy; Walter Ash and lady Joan;
David Bowen and lady Betty; Keith Dewitt
and his lady friend; Alfred Reynolds and
lady Cathy ( where are you from ? ) and
myself and my lady Leni. I hope I got you
all. The potentate’s pin was the hit of the
cruise. I think everyone ran out of them.
The next noteworthy event was the “ Pink
Panther Party.” This party was attended by
a capacity crowd. It’s surprising how and an
inexpensive meal and free drinks motivates
people to join in. Most of the cruise people
who attended had their original “cruise
shirts “ on and Jesse’s helpers handed out
new shirts to the cruisers. The picnic meal
put on by the 2nd section was great.
The Directors and others have been
asked to sell tickets on the scooter at many
different events and I believe tickets sales
have been going good. Remember 100
percent of the money collected on the ticket
sales is going to our regional hospitals.
The circus is coming the 1st weekend in
May. Just come and show up and someone
will find you a job. The screening clinics
will be held on Saturday May16 from 9
to 12. Pitch in and find us some children
with an orthopedic problem. Remember
we accept children up to 18 years of age.

try and round some candidates for the June

T’was a day worth waiting for. Wake up
early on a very cold last day of February,
grab the bags you packed the night before
and drive to Brewer to find the chartered
buses warmed up and ready to take us to
Boston Logan.--The adventure begins! And so starts the Potentates cruise. No
need to repeat everything that you already
read in the Anahgram,except to say that
everyone had a ball. Jesse Thomas and
Bangor Travel organized the whole event
with military precision. The buses, flights,
hotels, and the ship were extremely well
organized. And PINK prevailed!
It is unfortunate that I missed last
m o n t h s a r t i c l e . I t i s n o t e w o r t h y,
how-ever, that Todd and Lisa Cotier
survived their April anniversary. I
also missed saying happy birthday to
Sandy Heath, Nancy Wood, Antoinette
Calder, Sandi Megno, and Josh Shute.
A happy May anniversary is offered to Dan

The Mini Bike Report is back after a little
over a year absence. We’ve gone through
some tough times over the last year. The
unfortunate loss of a brother rider that
deeply affected the moral of the unit, also
led to the resignation of another. Two
new riders didn’t pan out and left us with
a severe shortage of Riders for our parade
season. As if all that weren’t enough, I had
my annual accident resulting in a broken
back, again, leaving me unable to ride
through most of the parade season. Thank
God for Aflack.
Well it’s a new year and we are
concentrating our efforts on rebuilding the
unit. The decision has been made to ride
in parades closer to Bangor while trying
to recruit more riders. I’m hoping that
this report is read by more than a couple
current mini bikers. I know that only a
couple read these reports because only
two of them have ever mentioned it. So, if
for some reason you are looking for your
first unit, or you’re looking for a new one,
please consider looking into it. Previous
riding experience is not required; we can
teach you. Age is also not an issue. We
have two members who are 70 something
young. It’s not expensive. A deposit on
a bike, when assigned to you is only $50.
That and a few dollars more for uniforms is
all it would take. Should anyone reads this
and is interested, please call the recorders
office and leave a message.
We do provide some fringe benefits. To
name a few, good friends, good times, a
few laughs and raising a few bucks for
the kids. Our monthly meetings are held
at the Temple on the third Wednesday of
the month at 6 pm. We have a short social
period, followed by a pot luck supper. Our
wives, past riders, divan reps, and potential
riders are all welcome to join us and the
meetings end around 8.

The Feztival
of Trees

Don’t say anything but I think we have
winter behind us. I will do further research
to substantiate this but as of now my hopes
are high that we will have summer. By the
time you read this the Feztival Of Trees
committee will have at least one meeting
under our belts. We will be meeting on the
second Monday of each month from now
until the event. All those who wish to take
a part are invited to attend, as always many
hands make for light work.
It somehow seems ironic that we are just
getting out of the deep freeze and here we
are planning for a Christmas event. Even
though it will be cold again outside, seeing
all the bright eyes and smiles will make it
warm inside. It is our plan to contact each
unit and club in order to have nobles and
ladies for all tasks and have assigned blocks
of time so not only will you be helping out
but you won’t have to commit to a large
amount of time out of your busy schedules.
If any of you know a business or
organization that would like to display a
tree with us this year please forward that
information to the Shrine Center so we
can get an application to them. It is crucial
we get applications out early as most
organizations and businesses plan their
budgets early in the year and we want to
accommodate that process. It is so very
important to have the entire application
filled out. That information gives us
multiple ways to contact the displayer and
thus insuring a pleasant experience for
them. It is always better to be informed
than surprised.
On that note I will end this posting for
another month. Please enjoy the warmer
weather is a safe manner. Tighten those
bolts, check the oil, fluff up the seat
and be ready for a safe mowing and
grooming season for your yards. Oh by
the way if you need a place to try out your
grooming equipment my yard is available
for a nominal fee. Be happy, safe, and show
those around you that you care.

held its 2015 Installation of Officers on
Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Ralph J.
Pollard Lodge in Orrington. The Elected
Officers installed were:

The lineup will begin at 1pm in the back parking lot of Reny’s on High St. in Ellsworth.
The parade will step of at 2pm and travel towards High St. through the Hanf block turning
left onto High St. then proceeding to the traffic light turning left onto Main Street and then
a right onto State Street traveling up the hill until we take a left onto the Shore Road and
then a right onto Pond Ave. that will take us to the back parking lot of the Mill Mall.
All motorized units should unload at the parking lot behind Reny’s and Shaw’s and reload
at the Mill Mall and Ellsworth Elementary/Middle School parking lot.

What a winter, it is nice to see the green
grass coming and spring flowers! Along
with the flowers we are in hope to spring
up some flags during this years parades.
We really need support. PLEASE help us
with this. Our group is growing small as
our members are experiencing an aging
process. A long with this process we are
experiencing minor aliments that does not
permit the ability for some to march. We
hold the flags high in recognition of the
power of all of the Nobles in the healing
process so many children need. We are
looking for some strong legs to support us

We started off 2015 with an event at the
Easton Elementary School celebrating
Easton’s 150th anniversary on the 27th of
February. Gampy (Milo Cropley),
Moochie (Bruce Blodget), Disco (Shawn
Dube), Camo (Andrew Coiley), Mega
Bit3 (Shawn Lahey) and T-Square (Todd
Pelletier) tied balloons and entertained
kids for hours.
Our next event was the annual OTC Fun
Day at the Aroostook Shrine Club where
Rainbow (Jim England), and Jinks (Jim
Iverson) entertained the day.
We had our unit meeting on March 13th
and started discussing the events for the
year. Two of our events would be held the
very next day with one being held at Mars
Hill High School for their Winter Fest and
the second being held at Nordic Heritage
Center for Irish Fest where Moochie,
Disco, and Mega Bit3 attended both
events and Jinks attended Winter Fest.
As the end of March nears we are
preparing for the “Big Event” Circus time,
I know I’m excited since this will be my
first Circus event as a “KLOWN”.

Anah Band has still been practicing for
the Circus this spring. We have been
having a great time practicing with HJ
Crosby Community Band as they will be
joining us at the Circus this year. Earl
directs both bands and everybody works
very well together and has a great time
when we practice.
Parade season will be upon us soon and
we are looking forward our usual parades.
We generally stay very busy and do our
best to raise money for the children that
need care at Shriner’s Hospitals.
We are in hopes that others will take on
learning a new instrument and come and
play with us. The more people we have,
the more we can earn to give directly to
the children at the hospitals. Practice times
are every 1st and 3rd Monday of the
month in Newport.

Greeting Ladies and Nobles. It looks
like spring may actually come this year.
There is a lot of great news to report. We
have purchased an enclosed trailer to
house our carts that we will use in the
parades. We would like to thank a few
people that have helped us so much.
Harold Hatch for finding the enclosed
trailer for us, Penny Hatch for making our
new uniforms, Brenda Dickens, owner of
the UPS Store in Ellsworth, for designing
our banners and so much more.
If you have never been to one of the
Waltham ’s outside 3rd degrees save the
date, June 18 at 1268 Waltham Road ,
Waltham . There will be a bus from the
Ramada 4:15 and at The Mill Mall at 4:30
to Waltham and back. Anah Facts &
Figures will be hosting a seafood supper
and camel milks following the outside
degree at 381 Cave Hill Road at Elliot
Jordan’s Garage. There will be chop suey
and bean & hotdogs available as well.
Tickets will be available for $25.00 per
person.
We have changed our meetings to be at
Elliott Jordan Garage every 3rd
Wednesday of the month.

The March meeting of NPSC found the
Nobles with their Ladies at the Snowmobile
Club House in Sherman where a wonderful
New England boiled dinner awaited our
consumption. Once again the cooks of this
club house provided us with a great meal for
which they received a loud round of applause.
They also laid out a nice spread of hors
d’oeuvres for the attitude adjustment time.
President Dickie called the meeting to order
at 7:00 and led the 38 Nobles and Ladies in the
Pledge of Allegiance. The blessing of the meal
was provided by Noble Rollie Hanscom. The
report of the Treasurer and Secretary’s minutes
were both presented and accepted. No fez
fines were levied this evening. Get well and/or
Thinking of You cards were circulated for
Nobles Roger Frazier, Jerry Anthony, Paul
Thornton and Ladies Joyce Thornton and Billie
Farrington. All of these Nobles and Ladies
have recently had some significant to serious
medical issues arise. In the case of my mother,
she has suffered two heart attacks with the
second one followed by a catherization and a
stint. She is not making a quick recovery. For
the other four I will let them keep their issues
to themselves until you speak with them.
Dignitaries present this evening were Chief
Greeter Emeritus (and assistant bar tender)
Durward Shedd and Past Potentate Tony
Bowers. Tony was the 50/50 raffle ticket
salesman for the evening. Tony does come up
with ingenious ways to entice the Nobles and
Ladies into buying more of the 50/50 tickets.
This evening his scheme was and arm length of
tickets for $5. I made it known to him that I
would give him $6 for a leg length of my wife’s
leg, Donna. Of course he had to bring her to
the front of the hall, make a proclamation and
then make the measurement. Donna took it all
in stride (no pun intended) and Tony measured
out the tickets. He talks big but when push
came to shove he performed an outside the leg
measurement. Anyway, at the drawing Donna
ended up holding the winning ticket. She gave
the $41 back to the Club.
No old business was brought before the club
this evening. I reported on our Circus Ad and
ticket sales to this point. P. P. Tony referenced
a number of announcements from the most
recent Anahgram.

Hello everyone from the membership
committee. I wanted to update you all a
little bit on membership. First of all let me
tell you we had a very successful Hospital
Support Night event on Sat. August 2nd.
This is something the membership comm.
put on to raise awareness of what we
really do as Shriners which is support the
hospitals. We had a fantastic meal put on
by the Second Section, who did it free
of charge by the way, a silent auction,3
patients from the hospitals that spoke and
some great entertainment by the Skyliners
band. Because it was our first time doing
this and being in the middle of the summer
I was a little nervous about what kind of
turnout we would get. I am very pleased to
say that we had over 120 in attendance! The
deal was that every penny of profit we made
would be split between the Boston and
Springfield hospitals. We actually will be
sending them $1062.00 each! I have spoken
with Jesse Thomas our Chief Rabban and
it looks like we will do this again next year
hopefully on May 16th.
In addition to that the membership
comm. is meeting once a month and will
be starting phone calls to all those nobles
!

who are behind in dues next month. This
seems to help a lot with our retention. I am
personally reaching out to all the candidates
from 2011,2012,2013 and 2014 each month
through a calling post message. I think this
keeps them in the loop and informed.
Please help us by telling the Shrine
story as often as possible. We need to start
gearing up for next year’s class, so keep
thinking about someone who would make
a good Mason and Shriner.
Springfield MA is now a thing of the past
and was held August 21-23. I am sure a
good time was had by all who attended.
Noble Appreciation Night will be held at
the Anah Temple on September 13th.

ANAH S.M.A.R.T TEAM 2015
As most of you know we have formed a Shrine Membership Action Renewal Team (SMART).
Other temples are successfully using SMART teams to build membership and involve younger people in the Shrine. Our
SMART team is a group of ANAH Shrine couples of different ages and tenures that we brought together to build family involvement at ANAH. We have met three times already to start new family events or support existing events with families in
mind. Every person on our team is actively chairing or helping with our activities. These are the things we are planning in
2015.
May 16th – Doug & Robyn Dulac -Hospital Support Night. This will be a dinner dance with several current or past
hospital patients speaking. We will have a spaghetti feed at $10.00 per person, live entertainment and a silent auction. Every
penny of profit generated will be split between the Boston and Springfield hospitals. It is open to the public so bring friends
and family and see what we really do as Shriners.
August 8th – Dan & Lanci Costain are graciously hosting a family farm day at their farm in Newport. There will be
things like BBQ, hay ride, cider press, animal petting, make your own sundae, pumpkin carving and many more fun things.
Sept.? – Adam & Jamie Beals-Tailgate Party at the Temple for everyone. We need to iron out more details, but will be similar to any tailgate party with BBQ, drinks, big screen TV, etc.
Oct. 30th – Ryan & Brooke Otis-Trunk or Treat at the temple. This will be a very fun event where the kids can trick or treat
at many different booths at the temple. We will probably have a haunted house, games, and many more fun things going on.
Dec. 12 – Fred & Jen Brown-The SMART team has decided to help with the annual Christmas Party put on by the
Bangor-Brewer Shrine Club. This is always a great event with Santa, gifts, making crafts, music etc.
Robyn Dulac & Jamie Beals are also working on a program to provide childcare at certain ANAH Shrine events. This
will provide a fun safe environment for those who would like to attend adult Shrine events and have their kids nearby. We
are talking to a group of college students who currently provide childcare. Parents will schedule in advance and pay the sitters directly. We plan a pilot program on May 16th. If you have questions on this please contact Robyn Dulac 207 478-2272

All of these events are designed with the idea of involving families more. There will be more details coming on the
things that aren’t completely finished.

President Elwell introduced the two guest
speakers for the evening. From the State of
Maine Legislature we heard from State
Representative Ricky Long and former
legislature Henry Joy.
Rep. Long spoke about some of the many
issues before the legislature. He is not in
favoring of taxing of non-profits; many of the
Governor’s ideas are good but some of them
will hurt senior citizens; they are all working
together to sort out all of the issues. His
concern is at this point when the legislature
should be 50% through their work they are
only at the 24% mark. He spoke about the
proposed national park and issues about it that
will cause problems with land values and
taxation. He stated that there will not be a park
without the permission of the Maine
Legislature. However, because of all the
freshmen legislators the landscape is changing.
Former Rep. Henry Joy spoke almost entirely
about the proposed park. He is very concerned
about statements being made by the proponents
of the park. According to him, many of the
statements being pushed as positive notes are
not completely true. Some of his concerns are
that the federal government does not have to
honor easements that have been or will be
created by Elliotsville Plantation; the 400 –
1,000 job likely will not go to local people, the
unknown cost to the forestry industry, and the
inability of the federal government to fund and
run another national park.
Both of these speakers gave a good
presentation and left their audience with items
to think and talk about.
President Dickie had to leave early in order
to get his Lady Denise to work on time. Thus,
I closed the meeting with a reminder that our
next meeting will take place on May 6, at the
East Branch Snow-Rovers Club House in
Medway and a wish that all in attendance have
a safe journey home.

winter is still keeping a grip on us here in
Maine.
The forecast sounds more
promising for the coming weeks. Let’s
just hope we can get rid of all of the snow
before the June Ceremonial in Ellsworth.
When you receive this Anahgram the
Bangor Circus will be over. Let’s hope for
plenty of success at Bangor and Presque
Isle. The June Ceremonial is about a
month and a half away. As always we
should be in line for a great time. Let’s
hope for plenty of candidates so the
Second Section can do what it is that we
do. There will be a large contingent of
Second Section members camping out at
Timberland Acres RV Park in Trenton. Be
sure to stop by and visit, you won’t regret
it. I don’t know what the availability is,
but if you want to join in, give them a call.

raffle tickets. Sales are going good, so if

With the summer months rolling around
the corner the unit looks forward to seeing
the snowbirds as they return from their
winter “vacations”. Some of you honorary
Nobles should make a point to make it to a

of our meetings before you make the trip
back to Florida in the fall. Before we
know it, it will be Fall again, the Noble of
the Year party will be in the very near
future. Who will this year’s recipient be?

Greetings from Schoodic Shrine Club:
Our March meeting was held at the New
Friendly Restaurant, Perry, on Wednesday,
March 18th. We had nine in attendance.
As I remember, it was a stormy day, which
kept some people at home. The food was
great, and our Noble President,
IkeWinchester, conducted a fine meeting.
It was short and to the point, my favorite
kind.
Several of our Nobles have been in the
hospital. Nobles Jim Connor, Buster
Hayward, and Dunk Johnson have been
under the weather. We wish them all well
and hope that they are back on their feet
soon.
Lauren Cook was a guest at our meeting.
She is the USA National Miss Maine Teen
and she talked about her project for this
year. She will be collecting aluminum can
tabs to benefit the Shrine hospitals. Please
save your tabs and bring them to a Shrine
meeting. We can give them all to Ike and
he can turn them over to Lauren.

be held at the Congregational Church
Parish Hall in Dennysville on Wednesday,
