The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has encouraged amateur short film makers to narrate the essence of Maharashtra with a chance to showcase their talent at the Pune International Film Festival (PIFF). The short films will be judged on their cinematic, thematic and aesthetic excellence showcasing the natural heritage, traditional heritage and the culture of Maharashtra in Marathi, Hindi and English. Every destination in Maharashtra has a scenic importance. Its rich biodiversity has a variety of terrains, from beaches to hills, from plateaus and jungles to water bodies, which can be best described through audiovisuals. Along with geological formations, the state has 80% of the caves in India and the maximum number of forts in the plains, hills and islands. The culture, food, festivals and traditions of Maharashtra is worth experiencing and showcasing in these films. The initiative of MTDC has plotted the state on the global tourism map through the medium of cinema at the Pune International Film Festival. The best films will be showcased to promote tourism in the state. Srimati Valsa Nair- Singh, Tourism Secretary GoM, Managing Director, MTDC, said, "Visuals speak more than a thousand words. With technological advancement mobile phones have become a very handy tool to take pictures, videos and to browse information. These can also be used for submitting the video films". MTDC wishes all the filmmakers the very best for the MTDC short film competition. The film exposes the history and natural locales, along with the beauty of manmade heritage structures as well. The Enigma of Lonar The Enigma of Lonar 2014-6 10’-Marathi-Color-India Director: Avdhoot Navale The Enigma of Lonar is a visual discovery tour of Lonar, its awe inspiring landscapes, its locales, as well as the sense of mystery and secretiveness that always seems to shroud it. Lonar has a silence about it, that is cosmic. Often, it gives an impression of being in ‘no man’s land’, this could also be because very few tourists or travelers visit it. Nighoj Nighoj 2014-9 51’-Marathi-Color-India Director: Dinkar Pandit Nighoj is a village in Ahmednagar District in Maharashtra. With its profound historic background and the lovely sandy beaches of Diveagar, the region is ever-welcoming. Radhanagari - Land of the Gaur Radhanagari - Land of the Gaur 2014-10’-English-Color-India Director: Raman Kulkarni This short film depicts the rich biodiversity of the Radhanagari wildlife sanctuary. It especially represents the beauty of the flagship species present there, the Indian gaur. This sanctuary is a paradise and a treasure trove for nature lovers. 37 MTDC Short Film Competition 2015 Manmade Heritage Amruteshwar Amruteshwar 2014-6’-English-Color-India Director: Nitin Bhaskar Amruteshwar is a temple of Lord Shiva, built in the Yadav-Shilahar era, around the eleventh century AD, approximately 74 kms from Sangamner. The temple is built in the ancient Bhumij style of architecture. The speciality of this elegant sculptural building are two sabhamandapas; the sanctum and santorum is situated in between these sabhamandaps. It is seen that the Shivalinga is always half submerged in water. Nandi was constructed in recent times at the rear door. This door is currently used as the main entrance. Adorable Little Hamlet- Wai Ek- Aat Paat Gaon - Wai 2014-10’-Marathi-Color-India Director: Laxmikant Alias Bhai Dole A tale of an adorable little Hamlet, Wai. Wai, situated on the banks of the Krishna nurtures the reminiscences of culture and history. It is a confluence of exquisite temples, glorious mansions and magnificent scenic beauty. Kedareshwar Temple Kedareshwar Temple 2014-5’-English-Color-India Director: Narwane Rahul Nagesh Dharmpuri is 29 kms south of Ambaogai, Beed on the Pune - Nanded road. A short distance to the east of the village stands an old temple, with a shrine, an antechamber and a square hall, with three porches to the north, south and the east. Rapan is a fishing net which has been in existence since over a hundred years in this region. The Sindhudurg district is well known for its tourism, but this hidden gem needs to be explored further. Serendipity Serendipity 2014-3 44’-Silent-Color-India Director: Sachin Patekar Serendipity revolves around a hobbyist photographer and his quest to quench his inner self. One fine morning, his chance encounter with Karmarkar Shilpalaya opens a route of self enrichment for him. 39 MTDC Short Film Competition 2015 Culture Of Maharashtra Festival of Happiness Festival of Happiness 2014-3 34’-Hindi-Color-India Director: Anup Deshpande The story revolves around a working man being away from his family and missing the most auspicious festival of the year loved by all, Diwali, and how his neighbors celebrate the festival with him. Inspiration of Kolhapur Inspiration of Kolhapur 2014-9 55’-Marathi-Color-India Director: Prasad Mahekar Inspiration of Kolhapur, shows a different identity of Kolhapur, through its art and cultural heritage. It shows the journey of the making process of artefacts that are unique to Kolhapur. Articles that have made their own identity across the globe, including Kolhapur’s saaj and footwear. Odyssey - Unfolding Maharashtra Odyssey - Unfolding Maharashtra 2014-10’-English-Color-India Director: Mrinmayee Vaishampayan, Aditi Patwardhan Odyssey, the enriching journey of Raavi, dwells into her enthralling experiences with people and places, as she explores the vibrant and soulful land of Maharashtra all by herself. 40 MTDC Short Film Competition 2015 Culture Of Maharashtra Sangeet Govind Gaurav Sangeet Govind Gaurav 2014-9 51’-Marathi-Color-India Director: Dhananjay Mehendale This documentary is based on the musical journey of senior harmonium and organ player, Late Govindrao Patwardhan. This film includes some rare photographs and videos of Sangeet Natak played by Govindrao along with interviews of artists for whom he played. Sawantwadi Days Sawantwadi Days 2014-10’-Marathi-Color-India Director: Sushil Mahajan A grandfather and his grandson live together. One day, the grandson faces a problem with his friends while playing, then, the grandfather tells him a story about Sawantwadi to make him happy. The story deals with love, understanding and attachment to one’s motherland. 41
