Overview
What’s Snapsync
Snapsync allow you to sync local Enterprise Storage iSCSi LUNs and Shared Folder Volumes to
remote Enterprise Storage, which provide efficient backup solution for IT operation usage.
Advantage
Using block level to perform differential backup, the quicker recovery time, requiring only a full
backup and the last differential backup to restore the entire data repository

Setup SnapSync Servers
Add remote host
Step 1:
Go to Backup Station
Step 2:
Select Snapsync Server at left panel and then press Create Host button

Enter remote storage Management IP and admin Password

SnapSync for Shared Folder
Create Shared Folder
Step 1:

Go to Storage Manager
Select Shared Folder at left panel and then press New Shared Folder button

Configure Storage settings and access privileges, then click on Create button

Create Shared Folder Replicate Job
Step 1:

Select SnapSync at left panel and then press Create a Replication Job button
Select paired Remote Host and Source Shared Folder we prepared, then press New button
for creating Destination Shared Folder

Enter drive name for Destination Shared Folder then click on OK
Step 5:
Check Replication Job settings, then click on OK to finish

In the meantime, the destination shared folder has been created at remote site

Note:
1. In order to prevent changes, destination shared folders are set in Read-Only mode until
SnapSync connection be removed.
2. The destination shared folder’s configuration is separate from the source, so the
Storage settings and access privileges must be reconfigured particularly.

SnapSync for iSCSI Storage
Create iSCSI Target and LUN
Step 1:
Go to Storage Manager
Step 2:
Select iSCSI Storage at left panel and then press Create button

Step 3:
Choose iSCSI Target with a mapped LUN and then press Next button
Step 4:
Enter Target Name and then press Next button

Enter LUN Name and then press Next button to create LUN
Step 6:
Press Finish button to exit configuration wizard

Target and LUN created, we will create a replication job for the LUN at next step
Create iSCSI Storage Replicate Job
Step 1:
Go to Backup station

Select SnapSync at left panel and then press Create a Replication Job button
Select paired Remote Host and Source LUN we prepared, then press New button for creating
Destination LUN

Note:
1. In order to prevent changes, destination LUNs are set in Read-Only mode and it cannot
be found by iSCSI initiator until SnapSync connection be removed.

Disaster Scenario
Recover from remote site
At this step, we will shut down and initialize local site storage to simulate disaster recovery.
Break SnapSync
Step 1:
Step 2:
At remote storage, go to SnapSync tab and select the replication job we already paired
Click on Quiesce job button

After Replication Job state is in quiescent mode, now can click on Delete button to break
Snapsync
Note:
Due to destination shared folder are set in Read-Only mode when SnapSync Replication Job
has been created, you have to break SnapSync to modify the shared folder data.

Revert Replication direction
Once local site storage come back, we can do a reprotect procedure

Make sure connection to local site is correct
Create reverted replication job for Shared Folder and iSCSI Storage from remote site to local
site

After replication job has done,
you will see the recovered Shared Folder has been added at
local site
For iSCSI Storage, the recovered LUN can be discovered in Un-Mapped iSCSI List

Reprotect from local site
Getting Ready
[IMPORTANT] For iSCSI Storage, UNMAP the Destination LUN we have replicated at remote site
to prevent replication failure in next step
For Shared Folder, stop NFS or CIFS connections for safety

Revert Replication direction
Step 1:
To revert the direction of replication, please follow Shared Folder Replicate Job and iSCSI
Storage Replicate Job to reprotect local site
Step 2:
Bellow pictures are showing how direction of replication changes after reprotect is done

Ready to use Storage
Now local site storage date has been fully recovered and can be used again
