A: Like most people, you probably answered wintertime, or possibly around the holidays. In fact, food banks supplies are often at their lowest in the spring! Over the next two weeks, between Monday, May 10th and Thursday, May 20th, the CLC will be sponsoring a food drive to support the Centre d’Entraide d’Argenteuil, an organization that helps provide food to families throughout the MRC d’Argenteuil. The collection point will be the main office. Students and staff are asked to drop off their donations in the morning before first period. But wait, there’s more! Please help us raise much needed supplies for an organization that helps many families in our area. If you have any questions, please contact Tim Foreman at (450) 562-8571, ext. 8449. Everyone who donates three or more items will receive a reusable shopping bag courtesy of Projet éco école and Sheldon Segal Productions ©. These will be collectors’ items so act fast! New team. New coach. Great year! Bear Clause Rugby It has been a progressive season for the Laurentian Regional Rugby program. By utilizing our introductory fall sessions over the past 2 years, we have been able to develop more seasoned, more experienced, and much more physical squads that compete at a much higher level than most three year old rugby squads. Our end goal is to build, and sustain, a competitive and progressive community program the Lower Laurentians can be proud of. We know, as a team of players and coaches, that we have a lot of work to do before we can take on more experienced programs such as Chateauguay Valley Regional High School in Ormstown, Quebec. To do this we have created a localized plan to be introduced in the Fall of the 2010–2011 school year. To highlight the end of the season we have an opportunity to play a skilled team from B.C. and another from Ontario. We will make the third provincial representative, finishing off the first tri-provincial tournament in the area. It will take place in Vankleek Hill on June 9th with LRHS representing Quebec, Vankleek Hill representing Ontario, and the Kamloops Raiders Rugby Club representing British Columbia. Moreover a year end rugby tour has been organized from June 27th to the 30th in Sarnia, Ontario. The Sarnia Saints Rugby Club has offered to billet our players for three nights as well as organize a day outing to Grand Bend, Ontario, and the Sarnia Blue Water Park. It will be a cultural experience as well as a rugby one. To date, we have 40 boys playing on our First Team (A Side), and Development Team (B Side). This challenges the players to compete for positions, bringing out their personal bests. Our girl’s team has struggled with numbers, but has shown strong commitment to play on game days. With 17 players on the roster, we have put together a solid 15, but this leaves little room for any substitutions or and/or injuries. Recently we have added twelve secondary 2 boys to the program. They have been participating in a very successful Bantam basketball program here at LRHS and we are happy that they have concluded that rugby was worth a try early in their high school career. We are very pleased with where we are at the moment, but we always must keep in mind that the level of rugby in Canada is going to increase dramatically over the next few years. Being a new Olympic sport, with the ever rising costs of traditional North American sports, and the explosion of rugby in Asia, it will only be time before it will be uniquely embraced by the main stream. The opportunity is ripe for getting on board early. derstand and administer in the high school setting. We are in the planning stages to host a mini coaching clinic at LRHS in the next school year to help our elementary teachers learn the basics and instill some standards early in their development as well as keeping the sport fun. Many of our Sec. 5 graduating players have expressed that they wished they had tried rugby much more sooner than Sec 4. Many have chosen to go on to play at CEGEP or join a club side such as the Laval Nomads Rugby Club, the Town of Mount Royal (TMR) Rugby Club, or the Mont Tremblant R.F.C. Lachute would boast well if we could produce such organizations. This is a life long sport that can open doors to international experiences and travels as well as friendships. The team would like to thank parents who have given time, money, or both, in order to provide better equipment and clean uniforms for our home and away games. Carolynn Williams, Carolyn MacIntyre, The MacKiddie Family, and the Lachute Protestant Cemetery Volunteer Committee have shown their commitment to the team, and this community's youth. Lastly, we would like to thank the students, administration, support staff, and the teachers for the support of the program. A new feel has taken hold in the school over the last few months....and it feels good! Best Regards, Ken Gordon, Andy Stewart and Bernie McMullen What we need most is a feeder school program from our elementary schools and sponsors. By doing so, we can provide the basic fundamentals making the game easier to un- Page 3 2009-2010 3rd Term Honour Roll (January 21st-April 1st, 2010) Secondary I Morrill, Katharine Carpenter, Breanna Campeau, Sydney Lebrun, Tristan Mongrain-McNally, Azalée Barnes, Connar Brassard, Mélodie Nowostawsky, Cody Comeau, Lee Ann Druce, Tyler Forcillo-Pilon, Bianca Kocsis, Magalye Colizza, Laurent Debkoski, Kathy Pleszkewycz, Natasha Robati, Rachel Blackburn, Emma Corbeil, Andréanne Courte, Jonathan McCullough, Jayde Mongeau, James Bertrand, Nicolas Coulter, Mariann Durand, Miguel Ferrié, Sabrina Guay, Amy Kubeck-Berniquer, Mathew Levert, Samuel Pilon, Geneviève Posch, Noah Provencal, Emma 94 91 90 90 90 89 89 89 88 88 88 88 87 87 87 87 86 86 86 86 86 85 85 85 85 85 85 85 85 85 85 Secondary II Henry, Kayla Le Gallee, Marissa Riedel, Donna Richard, Katherine Riddell, Amanda Riendeau, Maxime Hellstrom, Quinton Jensen, Bianca Martellino, Sabrina Vaillancourt, Megan Boudreault, Sarah Charlebois, Jason Drouin, Maxime 94 92 92 91 91 91 90 90 90 90 89 89 89 Secondary II Allen, John Corlett, Jennifer Donoghue, Sophie Jerebic, Shania-Marie Ness, Jamie Maree Boisvert, Kassandra Bouchard, James Corlett, Jessica Doyon, Mattea Mance, Sarah McAndrew, Liam Neill, Carl Mawdryk, Andrew Roche, Randi Kires, Marika 88 88 88 88 88 87 87 87 87 87 87 87 86 86 85 Secondary III Corbeil, Alexandra Lizotte, Estelle Ross, Sydney Turchetto-Turanova, Désirée Boulanger, Jennifer Danis, Kyana Henry, Jodee Orlando, Holly Averill-Monette, Véronique Black, Sarah Marsolais, Cassandra Osborne-Laroche, Chelsea Santin, David Honegger, Christy Lepage, Arya Strasser Shostak, Tanya Comeau, Elisa Gaboury, Catherine Lalonde, Marc-Antoine Lauzon-Tavares, Kiara Blackburn, Rebecca Clark, Benjamin Urquhart, Alexander 95 94 92 92 90 90 90 90 89 89 89 89 89 88 88 88 87 87 87 86 85 85 85 Secondary IV Lizotte, Florence Meunier Orenbach, Tessie Xu, Yue Chuprun, Elizabeth 97 94 94 93 2009-2010 3rd Term Honour Roll (January 21st-April 1st) Secondary IV Meredith, Jordan Midea, Alexandre Ross, Spencer Taylor, Lindsay Lizotte, Alexandre Bouchard, Sarah Dell, Brooke Desjardins, Travis McCart, Vanessa Truttmann, Natasha Beaven, Chelsey Carpenter, Michaela Charron, Jason Lepage, Daisy Raeburn-Madden, Mackenzie Shephard, Kitty Vaillancourt, Nicholas Vallée, Alexandre Guay, Tracy Moran, Alexandra Mount, Steven Watier, Molly Clark, Emily Guay, Shany 93 93 93 93 92 91 89 89 89 89 88 88 88 88 88 87 87 87 86 86 86 86 85 85 Secondary V Godin, Gabrielle Joly, Steve Taylor, Nikola Turcotte, Bianca Doyle-Pesant, Melanie Pagé, Milovy Bennett, Bailey Black, Kelsey Dufour, Sacha Gascon, Estelle Brown, Olivia Hussey, Francesca Shewchuck, Brandon Tourangeau, Erica Antioco-Ridgway, Michael Gutierrez, Camille Sigouin, Christopher Godbout, Patricia Bertrand, Rebecca Biggs, Brandon Delorme-Barbeau, Philippe Joly, Philip Stewart, Catherine 94 94 93 93 92 92 91 91 91 91 90 90 90 90 89 89 89 88 87 87 87 87 87 Secondary V Beaulieu, Marie-Ève Beaven, Emily Blais, Mélanie Buschbeck, Leonie Crooks, Taylor Dreihaupl, Emily Hribar, Lena Richard, Jérémie Theodoro Gasparini, Tatiana Druce, Kaylee Johnson, Chelsey Roussin Durand, Laura 86 86 86 86 86 86 86 86 86 85 85 85 The Honour Roll students were invited to a “tea” in the courtyard as a special recognition. A Special Invitation Celebrate International Biodiversity Day Saturday May 22nd 2010 at Arundel Nature and Science Centre What is biodiversity? What is a BioBlitz? Biodiversity refers to the incredible number of plants and animals around us. Just step out into your own backyard, or a local park or green space, and you will see firsthand how many different types of wild neighbours share your local environment! 2010 has been designated International Year of Biodiversity. To celebrate, Arundel Nature and Science Centre has partnered up with the Robert Bateman «Get to Know» Foundation. Together we are planning a fun re‐imagination of the traditional BioBlitz with small, kid‐friendly BioBlitzes. The «Get to Know» BioBlitzes will be more than just finding and identifying species – they will be a true celebration of the diversity of life, with fun events that will get kids interested in plants and animals around them. Kids will join Arundel Nature and Science Centre staff, biologists and naturalists as they learn the names of plants and animals around them and take part in the unique activities organized at our location. This family day will invite kids and their parents to get a chance to try their hand at environmental awareness activities such as nature walks and pond exploration, scientific species identification and classification, photography, wildlife sketching and writing workshops. The goal of the «Get to Know» BioBlitzes will be to nurture a deeper interest in youth about biodiversity through hands‐ on learning and exploration. Above all, the BioBlitz will be a fun way for young people and their parents to get outdoors, get active, and "get to know."
