Week 1 - Roy Hobbs Baseball
THE INSIDE PITCH WEEK 1 VETERANS O C T. 2 6 th WELCOME TO THE 2015 ROY HOBBS WORLD SERIES Results corrections Please check the posted results and standings each day. Managers should contact Rob at the Tournament Headquarters (239.533.7694) with corrections to scores. That’s the best way to make sure that playoff seedings and pairings are as accurate as we can make them. Pitching For the record, here is a recap on the rules on pitching eligibility for the playoffs. Roy Hobbs requirement is that all pitchers who will be starters or closers in save situations (3-run or less difference in the 8th and 9th innings) qualify for the playoffs by pitching at least 2 innings – 6 outs or 10 hitters – during pool play. This is a reminder to all managers that all pitching statistics need to be updated through the first 4 games by noon Thursday. Finally, in the playoffs, those “non-qualified” middle-inning pitchers will come to the mound from their normal defensive positions where they started the game. That is as important as the “spirit of the rule” that these non-qualified pitchers who are used as “inning-eaters” are players who ordinarily are playing other positions. Player ID cards Just a reminder that all players must have their player I.D. cards with them at games. No card, no play, and Roy Hobbs reserves the right to do card checks at games. Players without their ID cards will not be allowed to continue to play and will be required to bring his ID card to the Tournament Director or Site Manager before being allowed to return to the playing field. Replacement cards are available at the Roy Hobbs Headquarters. Bring a photo ID to verify identity, and the fee is $5. So, please don’t lose the card and please keep it with you. Team photo plan photo by Greg Wagner Tidewater Drillers 3rd baseman Joey Martinez makes a great play on a Nova Scotia Alpines bunt attempt. Just a reminder that if any team wants to get signed up for the photo plan this week, the manager should call Greg Wagner at either 239-2773100 (office phone) or 239-898-8677 (cell phone) any time on Monday in order to get on the schedule for Tuesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Time is of the essence now, and Wagner Photography would need to hear from interested teams by Monday, even if it’s Monday night. see NOTEBOOK on page 8 2 VETERANS RESULTS Sunday Ft Myers Hurricanes 0 Puerto Rico Braves 6 Chicago Woodpeckers 4 Batgripz.com A’s 5 Dominican Red Sox Astros 0 Stars of Herrera 9 RusStar Baseball 15 Kodak Reds 2 Glass City Black Sox 10 Naples A’s 11 Naples A’s 11 South Bend Cardinals 1 Cincinnati Colt .45s 12 Minnetonka Mustangs 2 Rhino Recycling 0 Broward/Tallahassee Sharks 1 Ohio Indians 8 Miami Marlins 3 Charm City Arsenal 7 Panhandle Pirates 8 Broward/Tallahassee Sharks 9 Ft Myers Hooter’s Owls 1 Ft Myers Hooter’s Owls 0 Akron Cardinals 1 Tennessee Dirtbags 13 Charm City Arsenal 14 Miami Marlins 5 Tennessee Dirtbags 3 Toledo Aces 6 HPK Oilers 1 Nova Scotia Alpines 5 Tidewater Drillers 12 Cleveland Cubs 14 Detroit Dodgers 15 Minnesota Web Gems 3 Cape Diablos 7 Minneapolis Millers 9 New Jersey Twins 10 MaxBat 9 Dominicana Liga del Oeste 17 Minnesota Bandits 5 Jet Box 8 Tallahassee Red Sox 17 Minnesota Bandits 4 Pittsburgh Wild 8 Cape Diablos 9 Chicago Dodgers 5 Akron Knights 10 Akron Knights 2 Ft Myers Hurricanes 7 Jet Box 4 Chicago Knights 2 Tallahassee Lumberjacks 5 Cincinnati Colt .45s 9 New Jersey Mets 13 Indiana Stars Academy 4 Red Sox of Puerto Rico 11 Cleveland Cubs 1 Island Tours, Day Cruises, Sunset and Dolphin Tours 3 VETERANS SCHEDULE “I have absolutely no idea”. If so, Roy Hobbs has a recognition pin for players with 10 or 15 or 20 years at the Tournament. See Karen or Rob at RHWS headquarters to get your pin. ‘Big Boys Project’ Washington Titans manager Mic Stump has retired (from his real job) and is working on a book about adult baseball people, who we are, how we are and what we do … good, ugly and funny! “I want to compile stories from our fellow ball players spanning the over 20 years we’ve been able to enjoy playing the wonderful pastime called baseball,” Mic said. “As you know whenever we ball players get together we exchange tales and lies of our exploits and our teammates – mostly lies coiffured in ‘exaggeration’. It’s always amazed me the tales we tell on each other. And I want to compile these and share them.” This project – he’s calling it the ‘Big Boys Project’ – was a dream of Bob Wagner, who helped bring Roy Hobbs to Lee County in 1993. Bob had just started compiling stories when he passed away in 2001. And Roy Hobbs Baseball is committed to helping see that such a project gets completed… as there’s lots of funny, poignant and heart-warming material available. Mic is looking for stories that he can work with to ensure the meaning and descriptions “bring forth the joy we’ve all felt following our avocation – baseball.” Contact Mic at [email protected] to share your ideas and stories.
