twentytwentyone present The Wrong Shop Editions with
prints by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec and Pierre Charpin
The print series are to be produced by The Wrong Shop and initiate a unique collaboration to offer previously unseen
works by the designers. The hand-drawn sketches are an insight into their highly successful and influential design
practices. The prints reveal core elements in the creativity of the designers and act as a new medium to understand and
enjoy their work.
For the first time drawings from the individual collections of Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec will be produced in limited series
as prints. The original works formed part of recent exhibitions at Vitra Design Museum and Centre Pompidou Metz. The
Bouroullec prints will be mounted in custom-designed composite frames, or available unframed. Pierre Charpin’s Loop
series will be offered in bleached Lime box frames, or unframed. Each print is signed and numbered and launched at a
fixed price, eliminating the price increases often associated with limited editions in the art market.
‘I am interested in producing new works representing the creative expressions by designers who are known for their
3-dimensional designs. These prints are strong graphic statements that stand independently on their own merit’ says
Sebastian Wrong.
The collection will be launched at twentytwentyone who will act as The Wrong Shop’s exclusive retail partner. ‘The Wrong
Shop prints communicate a previously inaccessible element in the designers’ output and thought processes. Treated in
a sensitive manner, and produced and priced towards defined markets, the prints offer a logical extension to our retail

Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec

‘Drawing is the point of departure for all my design projects, but I have always believed that it can also be an end in
itself – something I call ‘drawing for drawing.’ I attach great importance to this practice because it is the link to my visual
arts background and education. It is also the only time, as a designer, when I assume complete responsibility from the
beginning to the end of the process.
I moved to the large format of 700 x 1000mm to give the drawings more autonomy. It was at this time that I also started
to consider the possibility of duplication; I was looking for a process whereby the reproduced drawing, having lost its
status as a unique work, is neither an exact reproduction nor a duplicate of the original, but rather an interpretation of it.
For the Loop series, produced and edited by The Wrong Shop, the original felt-tip pen drawings were converted using
a basic vectorial program then screenprinted, or digitally printed. These ‘translated’ drawings possess a quality and a
specificity of their own and while their interpretation remains close to the original they become new and different objects

About Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec
Ronan Bouroullec (born 1971) and Erwan Bouroullec (born 1976) have been working together for almost 15 years. Their
collaboration is a permanent dialogue nourished by their distinct personalities and a shared notion of diligence with the
intention to reach more balance and fineness.
The Paris-based brothers design for numerous international manufacturers, namely Vitra, Kvadrat, Magis, Kartell,
Established and Sons, Ligne Roset, Axor, Alessi, Cappellini, Mattiazzi and more recently Flos and Mutina. At the same
time, they maintain an experimental activity which is essential to the development of their work at Galerie kreo, Paris,
where four exhibitions of their designs have been held between 2001 and 2012. Several exhibitions have been devoted
to their work from the Design Museum in London in 2012, to the Museum of Contemporary Art MOCA in Los Angeles in
2004 to the Centre Pompidou Metz and the Vitra Design Museum in 2012. This year, a new comprehensive monographic
book was released called Works, by Phaidon Press.

About Pierre Charpin
Pierre Charpin (born 1962) is a visual artist living and working in Ivry sur Seine, on the outskirts of Paris, France. Though
he obtained his degree from the National School of Fine Arts in Bourges, he decided to concentrate on designing objects
and furniture in the early 1990s, and has since embarked upon a number of research and production projects, carrying
out his unflagging research under a variety of auspices.
Since 2005, he has been working exclusively with Galerie Kreo for the production of limited edition pieces. He has also
become involved in the actual production of his designs, teaming up with such big-name firms as Alessi, Issey Miyake
Parfums, Ligne Roset, Montina, Pamar, Post Design, Schneider Electric, Tectona, Venini, and Zanotta.
In addition to his own work, Charpin taught design at the Reims School of Art and Design from 1998 to 2008, and since
2006 he has led several workshops for the Lausanne Cantonal Art School.
