Local Network or port restrictions/No access to public internet Local control of key performance requirements (bandwidth/load/network) Enforcement of Unique Security Requirements – Support Ad Hoc exercises, experiments and operations – Support Coalition activities Private/Secure – behind org firewalls Independently Manage Capability Independently Manage Users – Local control of who has access to full suite of collab tools 13 DISA Collaboration Examples 14 Command and Control Examples PANAMAX 2007 Civil and military forces from 20 countries participated in PANAMAX 2007, a U.S. Southern Command joint and multi-national training exercise co-sponsored with the Government of Panama, in the waters off the coasts of Panama and in Honduras, Aug. 29 – Sep. 7. The exercise focused on ensuring the security of the Panama Canal from both the Caribbean and Pacific approaches to the Canal. Simulated ground forces will participate at Soto Cano air base in Honduras. This year, more than 30 vessels, a dozen aircraft and 7,000 personnel took part. Participating forces comprised Multi-National Force South under a combined joint task force led by U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Evan Chanik, commander, U.S. Second Fleet. In addition to the traditional multi-national maritime force participation, PANAMAX 2007 included the added dimension of both ground and air assets. The PANAMAX 2007 exercise scenario included sea-based training devoted to maritime interdiction operations, and visit, boarding, search and seizure. Additionally, land-based training in Honduras will focus on command and control, stability operations, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations. NCES e-ColllabCenter was the collaboration tool of choice and replaced IWS as SOUTHCOM’s primary asset. – – – 80 Web Conferences conducted SIPRNET and NIPRNET Total 1600 attendees Delivering Collaboration Across Organizational Boundaries 15 Day to Day Operations Director DISA / CDR JTF GNO – Lt Gen Croom – leadership by example – Weekly Staff Meeting – 50-75 Web Conference participants (DoD Wide) – Uses managed service on SIPRNET – Driving uses across DISA – BRAC enablement Driving Change Through Leadership 16 International Presence Multi-National Virtual Learning Environment – Office of Naval Research Global (ONRG) in London,UK – Proof of Concept for On-line Learning for Developing Nations • • • • 17 Subject matter expert (SME) finder Instant messaging w/translation Text Translation for up to 16 Languages SCORM Compliant Summary Culture – Managed service vs user owned, operated, & maintained – Governance – Advocate for Change Business Processes Training Service Integration & Ease of Use – Network – Desktop Configuration – Integration with other Applications Return On Investment (ROI) Laws of Physics 18 Questions ? 19 Demonstration of www.e-collabcenter.com 20 E-CollabCenter Home Page Simple Tabs to Access Each Tool Active Web Conferences Tool Capability Summaries and News Active Chat Rooms 21 E-CollabCenter Home Page….What You Can Do Instant Messaging: Instantly and securely send and receive text messages Active Meetings Listed on Home Page ….click on the meeting you want to attend from the home page Web Conferencing: Join (one or more) secure conferences with just 1 participant or hundreds of others in a single conference Chat Rooms: Enter for chatting or posting data to be shared among a controlled group – data stays when you leave the room Other Features such as “Find People” 22 Active Chat Rooms Listed on Home Page ….click on the chat room you want to enter “Chat with People Using “Instant Messaging” 23 Instantly and securely send and receive text messages on your computer Chat one-on-one or with a group of people Check online status of other people (Available, busy, do not disturb, offline) Set your own online status Manage your “buddy list” (List of people that you chat with often) Save chat sessions and view previous chats Send files to other users, receive files from them Scheduling a Meeting Using “Web Conferencing”… Schedule a Meeting 24 What Can You Do in a Web Conference?
