CRUIKSHANK REALTY, INC. is pleased to offer the 23 Ranch
located approximately 13 miles northwest of Kim, Colorado.
LOCATION:
The 23 Ranch, located just 9
miles Northwest of US Highway 160 and Kim, CO
in Las Animas County, offers 1,120 acres of some
of the best balanced canyon and top country area.
The ranch lies just West of the well noted Smith
Canyon and includes a mile and half long, deep
Canyon finger that spurs from the main canyon.
Colorado Springs, CO (approximately 2.5 to 3
hours North) and Amarillo, TX (approximately 3 to
3.5 hours South) have commercial airports. Pueblo,
CO (2.5 hours North) and Springfield, CO (1 hour
East) have good municipal airports.
WATER:
The main livestock water supply is centrally situated at the
West end of the Canyon finger. This shallow well is solar powered and
pumps into 2 livestock tanks. Immediately South of the well, in the Canyon finger bottom, is a large spring. A large dirt tank (pond) is located
towards the West center of the ranch and is filled via rain water. The tail
of the Canyon finger has several water collection points as it traverses to
the main Canyon finger.
There are no improvements to speak of on the ranch. The older rock
house located in the SW corner is reminder of the years gone past and the
rough life of early settlers. The rock could be cleaned and used to build a
new cabin. These stones were originally quarried and shaped from the
local canyons and rock outcrops. These rocks, plus other magnificent
rocks located on
the ranch, would
create a beautiful
new home or landscaping. Moss
rock and other designer rock line the
canyon area.
HUNTING/RECREATION:
The 23 Ranch
lies in the Division of Parks and Wildlife Big Game (GMU)
Number 136, which equals an Elk hunters dream. GMU
#136 is part of the Plains Elk Unit which allows for an unlimited number of either sex, over the counter Elk tags to be
purchased from September 1 to January 1 of each year. You
choose your weapon of choice - rifle, bow and arrow, or
muzzleloader. In addition, this Class C season allows for the
hunter to apply for a Class A Elk license in another Colorado
GMU. GMU #136 Class C area also applies to Black Bear.
You can purchase as many either sex licenses as you want
between September 2 and November 16. Deer and Pronghorn licenses per individual may be applied for. Both Spring
and Fall Turkey seasons have unlimited licenses per individual also. Big cats also roam the are.
TERRAIN/VEGETATION:
The ranch elevation, on
the level to undulating top, ranges from a high of 5,620 feet in the
SW corner to a low of 5,550 feet in the NE corner. This top country
is well sodded with blue grama, western wheat, sideoats grama, and
winterfat. The Smith Canyon finger and its drainage area drops to
an elevation of 5,290 feet. The area surrounding the rugged Canyon
finger is vegetated not only with good grasses, but also pine trees,
brush, and cedars for game and livestock cover. This major Canyon
finger extends for over a mile and a half from the well known Smith
Canyon. In the Canyon finger, a drop of over 250 feet, the sides and
bottom will also be treed. The tail of the Canyon finger is rocked,
sodded, and has cedars and deciduous trees and shrubs. All vegetation either supports livestock or large game.
In addition to hunting for recreation, the ranch offers hiking to a different spot each day, horseback riding, camping,
or ATV riding.
