Match 64 - The Final of the 2010 FIFA World
Cup South AfricaTM
“Match 64” tells the full story of what happened at Soccer
City Stadium on July 11th 2010 – the day the FIFA World Cup™
Final was held on African soil for the very first time, a day that
would break worldwide television audience records, a day that
would guarantee a new winner of the FIFA World Cup™ – a
day South Africa would remember forever. For the very first
time, this film illustrates what it takes to put on a FIFA World
Cup™ Final, its organisation, the hospitality offered and the
integral involvement of the media. From sunrise to sunset and
beyond, “Match 64” follows not only the two teams and the
match referee, but a whole range of characters whose
contribution went beyond the game itself and reveals an
intimate portrayal of a country whose time has come, and
whose stadium was where dreams were realised.

Re-live South Africa
The Media Circus
This is the story of how different areas of the media covered
the FIFA World Cup South Africa™. We explore some of the
sophisticated developments like 3D, Ultra Motion, Heli-tele
and the Spider-Cam. We also eavesdrop on the quick-fire
production of multilingual mobile phone coverage as well as
analyse the skill and speed of cameramen and commentators.
We examine how FIFA and its host broadcaster made this
FIFA World Cup South Africa™ the most comprehensive
coverage ever – through the Dream Team Outside Broadcast
match concept; the International Broadcast Centre where
2700 people and 60 nationalities serviced the needs of the
world’s broadcasters; and how the 32 FIFA TV Team crews
built relationships with the teams they were assigned to – and
how the teams themselves coped with those media demands.
We also look at the broadcasters themselves – the all night
schedules of Televisa and TV Azteca of Mexico; the
co-operation between German giants ARD and ZDF and
Globo’s strength and challenges amongst others. It is fast
moving, entertaining and often surprising, highlighting some
obvious talent and revealing some little known skills and
expertise.

Our South Africa – 2010 Hopes and Dreams
Filmed during the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™: “Our
South Africa – 2010 Hopes and Dreams”, focuses on a wide
range of individuals spanning across the Rainbow Nation for
whom the FIFA World Cup South Africa™ had a special
significance. Travelling across the country, “Our South Africa”,
captures a unique moment in the evolution of the nation in
this post-apartheid era, with the film reflecting the realities of
life, while also celebrating the magnificent diversity of the
country. We meet a wide cast of characters including – Tokyo
Sexwale, a former political prisoner and footballer on Robben
Island and now a government minister, Jimmy Augousti,
former player now club owner and Danny Jordaan, CEO of
the FIFA World Cup™ Local Organising Committee. The
issues raised by these characters range widely from black
empowerment and nation building, to how Ghana eventually
carried the hopes of a continent.

FIFA World Cup™
Official Film Collection 1930 – 2006
The past comes back to life, with the depth of coverage, close-up intimacy and
dramatic perspective that is unique to these films – the greatest archive source of
the magic and unforgettable moments of FIFA World Cup™ history.
The fifteen Official Films of the FIFA World Cup™
1930 – 2006 offer a unique, high quality archive of the
FIFA World Cup™ over 80 years of its history.
From the tense last moments of “Goal”, the colour record
of England’s only FIFA World Cup™ victory in an era when
television was black and white, to the glorious sweep and
drama of the 35mm filming of “Hero”, the film of Mexico 86
which focused on Maradona’s finest and most controversial
hour, here are films which stand the test of time.
While television provides a complete record, the films fill
many other commercial purposes, which make them
valuable not just to networks, but to production companies,
sponsors and advertisers. The film provides some of the best
archive material, offering close-up and slow motion,
creating mood, showcasing an incident or capturing a key
moment in sharp focus.
FIFA Films can research shots, provide screeners for viewing
and supply the material you select in broadcast quality format.
The Official Film Collection provides the ideal build-up
programming as well as a rich source of clip material for
documentaries and other commercial purposes and after
each World Cup is over, the collection lives on, as a superb
archive and rich source of inspiration for the future. The
FIFA World Cup™ Film Collection 1930 – 2006 is available
exclusively through FIFA Films.
1930 – Uruguay – The 1930 FIFA World Cup™
Official Film – 14’  EN/FR/ES/DE
A unique and historically valuable addition to the Official Film
Collection, these 14 minutes of material predate television
and provides both black and white and colour coverage of
the first ever FIFA World Cup™. There are five minutes of
material from the final in colour, providing a record of
Uruguay’s victory in 1930.
1954 – Switzerland – German Giants – 89’  EN
Starting with the FIFA World Cup™ finals in Switzerland in
1954, we see the red-hot favourites Hungary, led by the
legendary Puskas eventually beaten by West Germany 3 – 2
in a classic final.
1958 – Sweden – Hinein – 82’  EN
The 1958 finals, held in Sweden, saw the emergence of a
new superstar in Pelé. This 17-year-old wonder player led
the Brazilians to a 5 – 2 final triumph over the host nation.
1962 – Chile – Viva Brazil – 88’  EN
Chile was the venue for the 1962 finals, where holders Brazil
were expected to regain their crown. The host, Chile, took
them all the way in an epic semi-final, but the classy
Brazilians eventually beat Chile 4 – 2 and went on to beat
another surprise package, Czechoslovakia, 3 – 1 in a
one-sided final.
1966 – England – Goal – 100’  EN
The only full colour record of the 1966 FIFA World Cup™.
England was expected to perform well in 1966, playing on
home ground. After tough, tense matches against Portugal
and Argentina, England eventually overcame West Germany
in the final 4 – 2. The team was helped, in no small measure,
by a historic final hat-trick by Geoff Hurst and superb
defending and attacking from Bobby Moore and Bobby
Charlton.

1970 – Mexico – The World At Their Feet – 92’  EN
The 1970 finals saw the emergence of probably the greatest
team the world has ever seen, in the all-conquering form of
Brazil. Pelé was playing in his last finals and his touch, vision
and goal prowess combined with Jairzinho’s amazing feat of
scoring in every round, propelled the Brazilians to an
irresistible 4 – 1 final victory over an overwhelmed Italy.
1974 – Germany – Heading For Glory – 89’  EN
The 1974 finals in West Germany saw the emergence of
“Total Football” in the shape of the classy Dutch led by the
legendary Johan Cruyff. The Dutch swept all before them
until they came up against the solid hosts in the final.
Beckenbauer led West Germany to a tense 2 – 1 victory.
1978 – Argentina – Campeones – 91’  EN
Argentina, as hosts in 1978, were under great pressure to
succeed. Amidst passionate supporters, they progressed to
the finals with a wonderful blend of attacking football and
tough defending. The unlucky Dutch, now lacking Cruyffs’
sublime skills, were the fall guys once again in the Final,
losing 3 – 1 in a classic clash of styles.
1982 – Spain – G’ole – 97’, with Sean Connery  EN
Brazil was expected to beat Italy with ease in a group decider,
but did not count on Paolo Rossi wrecking their plans with
two great opportunist goals, enabling Italy to win a classic
match 3 – 2. The Italians eventually went on to win the
tournament with a 3 – 1 victory over West Germany..
1986 – Mexico – Hero – 83’, with Michael Caine  EN
Mexico had just recovered from a devastating earthquake,
but the nation put on a great tournament and Argentina,
inspired by Maradona, justified “favourite” status. The epic
quarter-final with England generated Maradona’s most
controversial goal. West Germany won through to the Final,
but Argentina was waiting for them and won a classic final
3 – 2, to fulfil Maradona’s expected destiny and lift the FIFA
World Cup™ trophy once more for Argentina.
1990 – Italy – Soccer Shoot-Out – 100’ with
Edward Woodward  EN
Italia ‘90 was another fascinating tournament, a melting pot
of different styles, cultures and techniques. The biggest
tournament of its time saw the emergence of the African
nations with the free-flowing Cameroon capturing everyone’s hearts. The final was tight and not for the squeamish,
but the well-drilled and better-disciplined Germans prevailed
1 – 0 winners to claim the crown for the third time.
1994 – Two Billion Hearts – 106’  EN
In 1994, the FIFA World Cup™ came to the USA for the first
time in history and set the country alight, giving “soccer” a
tremendous boost in the world’s biggest market. Audiences were treble the previous highest ever achieved for
“soccer” in the USA. This film offers an original view of the
razzmatazz and vigour of the first US-staged event and
captures the agony of the penalty shoot-out between Brazil
and Italy that decided the world title.
1998 – France – La Coupe de Gloire – 86’ with
Sean Bean  EN
The French team – on home soil – was always going to be in
contention for the title of World Champion. It did not
disappoint its fans. France ‘98 was not short on drama or
controversy, in equal measure and this is captured most
effectively in this film. The 1998 film was shot on Super
16mm film and includes the most complete and extensive
coverage ever, with each match being filmed from more
angles than any previous film.
2002 – Korea/Japan – Seven Games From Glory – 120’  EN
A FIFA World Cup™ of shocks and surprises, making history
from start to finish. It was the first FIFA World Cup™ in Asia
and the first to be co-hosted by two countries. The official
film captures the unique spirit of this event in 120 minutes
of football – on the pitch and behind the scenes. This is one
of few official films able to offer a hint of the world behind
the dressing room door – Senegal’s victory celebrations,
Mexico’s prayer and team talk and the referees debriefing.
2006 – Germany – The Story of the 2006 FIFA

World CupTM – 93’  EN/FR/ES
The 2006 FIFA World Cup™ , hosted by Germany,
culminated in a dramatic finish with Italy defeating France
on penalties in Berlin to make it Italy’s fourth world crown.
If Zinedine Zidane’s red card was the Final’s defining image,
Italy’s triumph would be remembered as a team effort with
ten different “Azzurri” players finding the net. It was also a
special month for Germany, the goals of Miroslav Klose
helping secure third place in a tournament memorable for
the festival mood across the host country.
All of these classic, historic moments can be re-lived again
with the incomparable FIFA World Cup™ Film Collection. A
Collection that tells the story of the world’s greatest football
tournament with the style, experience and coverage that it
deserves, capturing all of the passion, tears and triumph for
future generations of football fans.

The FIFA World Cup™ provides a rich vein of programme
material, contained exclusively within FIFA Films, the world’s
greatest assembly of quality film and television coverage
from past tournaments.
FIFA Films is now working with top directors and production
houses to make full use of its golden heritage of visual
material, to create a range of high quality offerings for
television. Stories, legends and history – what the FIFA World
Cup™ is all about?
“FIFA World Cup™ Stories” take a series of intriguing angles
to provide new insight into some of the most fascinating
stories in FIFA World Cup™ history. The series of six halfhour programmes includes:
Holland’s Quest  EN
Holland has never won the world’s greatest football trophy,
yet it has often fielded world-beating teams. This
programme re-examines Holland’s two most focused
attempts – in 1974 and 1978 – to win the FIFA World Cup™,
when the Dutch introduced for the first time the concept of
“Total Football”. The programme also explores how Holland
has continually entertained and enthralled football fans at
subsequent events, while the “Holy Grail” of football
continues to elude its grasp.
African Odyssey  EN
The spectacular rise of African football on the World Cup
stage has led many to speculate “when” an African nation
will win the FIFA World Cup™. From the difficult early
lessons of the 1970’s through to the emergence of the
dazzling skills and flair of Cameroon, Morocco and Senegal,
the story of a continent in waiting.
Young Shooting Stars  EN
One of the most exciting aspects of this great event is
that – time and again – it introduces a new cast of young
football prodigies to a world audience. Pelé, Maradona,
Michael Owen and Ronaldo are among those who made a
global impact in their teens. This programme is a tribute to
genius on the football field and makes full use of the archive
footage to remind us of the debuts of some of football’s
greatest names.
FIFA World Cup™ Shocks  EN
The unexpected is what makes football exciting. Highlighting
the most surprising and shocking results in FIFA World Cup™
history – from North Korea’s humbling of mighty Italy in 1966
to Cameroon’s explosive entrance onto the World Cup stage
in 1990 with its victory over the holders Argentina – this
programme captures the moment, the effect and aftershock
of the unexpected result.
Golden Boot Legends  EN
Every FIFA World Cup™ tournament has a Golden Boot
winner. Some, such as Ronaldo in 2002 and Gerd Muller in
1970, were not unexpected. But who could have predicted
the impact that Paulo Rossi, Davor Sukur and Gary Lineker
would have had on FIFA World Cup™ history?
Penalty Shoot-Out!  EN
The drawn out agony of the penalty shoot out is the
football equivalent to a duel, with sudden death waiting
for one side or the other. No moments in football are more
intense. This programme covers the dramatic finales of some
great matches, where one kick of a ball can throw a nation
into joy or despair and turn players from heroes to villains.
The ultimate drama.
