It is my honor and privilege to congratulate everyone on this evening of celebration.
With over 40,000 entries across the country, the American Advertising Awards are the world’s largest and statistically the toughest advertising
competition. The competition represents the true spirit of creative excellence by recognizing all forms of advertising and cultivates the highest
creative standards in our industry.
The AAF continues to reflect its core values that help us sustain innovation, creativity, and inclusion. This keeps us on task and requires that we
respect a diversity of opinion and people. Our innovative programs continue to fuel excellence in our essential services and brand programs.
You are all a part of what we do and we are proud to count all of you as members of the American Advertising Federation.

After three rigorous rounds of judging by advertising industry creative executives, the cream has risen, the ADDY Awards have been presented
and this year’s American Advertising Awards winners are crowned. It has been quite a journey. Tonight represents great professional
achievement. Statistically, it is more difficult to win a national Gold ADDY Award than any other top advertising creative award. Believe it.
It takes great effort and coordination by many people each year to make all the stages of the American Advertising Awards successful.
Thank you to the many AAF member clubs for the countless hours that go into their local competitions and awards shows.
It also takes hundreds of dedicated judges from advertising agencies and creative businesses around the U.S. to make the American Advertising
Awards work. In all cases, these advertising experts donate their time and expertise to the cause, often traveling long distances in order to view
and judge the submissions. Thank you to each and every judge for your contributions.

CAN SOMETHING MINDLESS
CREATE UNIQUE ART?
Our client, International Paper, is the largest paper and pulp
product company in the world. But digital is becoming the
canvas of choice for many, making it crucial for them to
reestablish their relevancy in the design world. So they
called on us to help make a splash about their new line
of paper at the biggest design conference on earth.
We did this by posing the question:
Can technology truly create art?
Our answer?
A robot named SENSELESS DRAWING BOT 1.

By posting a photo of the booth tagged with #IPBooth to
Instagram, visitors vied to receive one of 40 unique pieces
of art given away each day. Each piece of art was signed
by the robot and its creators.
As a result of the artwork’s popularity, Instagram shut
down our account, believing we were spammers due to
the rapid surge in engagement.
By the end of the conference, we had done more than start
a buzz about paper. We had kindled a deeper conversation.
Each day, SENSELESS created a random graffiti mural
on a wall lined with our client’s new archival paper.

Men who have spent time in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA)
during their formative years have learned to strengthen and
expand themselves, their families, their communities, and their
country. Scouts are taught to make the right decisions in every
capacity and challenge themselves to achieve that which is
noteworthy. Every single day across this nation – from the most
powerful political offices and Fortune 500 boardrooms, to family
dinner tables and schoolyards – the positive principles of the Boy
Scouts of America loom large.
Not every Scout goes on to become a CEO or the
President of the United States. Not every Scout
becomes a U.S. Supreme Court Justice. Not every
Scout becomes a Nobel Laureate, or wins the
Pulitzer Prize, or earns the Congressional Medal of
Honor. Not every Scout gives his life to save another.
But all Scouts learn to live principled lives –

year in local AAF Club competitions. The mission
of the American Advertising Awards competition
is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of
excellence in the art of advertising.
Conducted annually by the American Advertising
Federation (AAF), the local Ad Club phase is the first
of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, all
across the country, local entrants vie to win ADDY
Awards —recognition as the very best in their
markets. At the second tier, local ADDY winners
compete against winners from other local clubs
in one of 15 district competitions. District ADDY
winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the
step toward winning a national ADDY.
Entering the American Advertising Awards supports
the entire advertising industry, because the AAF
and its local and district affiliates use the proceeds
to enhance advertising through programs such
as public service, internships, advocacy groups,
advertising education, and consumer awareness.
a panel of judges evaluates all creative dimensions
of every entry. A GOLD ADDY is recognition of the
highest level of creative excellence and is judged
to be superior to all other entries in the category.
Entries that are also considered outstanding and
worthy of recognition receive a SILVER ADDY.
The number of awards given in each category is
determined by the judges, based on the relative
quality of work in that category.
