700 Main Street, Sebastian, FL 32958 (772) 589-5969 www.SebastianChamber.com October 2008 Issue MEMBER SPOTLIGHT Kim Ellis Insurance Services, Inc. is family and faith-based and is located in Sebastian, doing business in the area for over 15 years. However, Jackie’s work not only connects her to the commuity at large, but also with her family who plays a role in the agency’s success. “My mother owns and manages the agency and we also have two of my grandmothers and sister-in-law working and everyone else in the office is just like family,” Jackie said. Jackie Hart Kim Ellis Insurance Agency Jackie Hart believes that those buying insurance should know everything about the policy before purchasing it and she’ll take the time in helping customers truly understand where their money goes. She’s been selling insurance for over 5 years now with Kim Ellis Insurance Services, Inc. (formerly The David Haeseler Insurance Agency), a full service agency offering home, auto, life, health and commercial insurance policies. But she does more than welcome the opportunity to help customers make the right insurance choices, she is also the manager of Catastrophic Inventory Services, a company that safely and securely stores your property inventory and documents in a secure site, making important personal or business information accessible to you in the aftermath of a personal or widespread catastrophe. Jackie has been a Floridian for most of her life and is a Palm Bay High School graduate. She and her husband have been married for nine years and are raising their four year old daughter in the Palm Bay area. Jackie says that the main reason for her work is “to make sure that everyone has enough ‘protection’ for all reasons.” To contact Jackie, call 772-589-1800 or email [email protected] or visit her at the Kim Ellis Insurance Agency, located at 990 US Hwy 1, Suite A, Sebastian, across the street from the westbound intersection of CR 512. If you have received a call recently from someone identifying themselves as a sales representative from Heron Publishing stating that they were working on a map project, be alert! We received a number of calls from members who were aware that we are NOT working on a map project, and did not buy into the scam. It is a shame that we constantly have to be on the look out for shysters who try to take advantage of the Chamber’s members. If you are suspicious, or concerned about a solicitation, please call the Chamber before you take any action. We will confirm any projects we are working on. Media Auction Success! The Media and Silent Auction Committee deserves a huge thank you! In its fifteenth year, this signature event for the Chamber is a crowd pleaser. It doesn't happen without the dedication and efforts of the committee members. They start in June of each year, focusing on the media partners and working very hard contacting radio, television, newspaper and other media sources to provide packages that will be beneficial to our Chamber businesses in promoting their services and products. In addition to that hard work, they collect gift certificates, baskets and unusual items for the Silent Auction part of the program. The Media Auction Committee has been led by Cindy Bryant, The Official Dining Guide and Heartbeat of the Treasure Coast Magazine for four years now. Cindy has mobilized, cajoled, inspired, and motivated her committee, media partners and all of the participants to make this a very successful event. Because of her leadership, this event has consistently exceeded its goals, and over $17,000 has been contributed to the Chamber Building Fund. This year’s committee was comprised of Cindy, Daisy Knowles, Brenda Ritchie, Michelle Barkley, Craig Biggers, and Denise Finizio. In the final weeks leading up to the Auction, we received a helping hand from Fred Augenstein and Nancy Johnson. We also want to thank all of our donors, we received over $40,000 worth of media packages, and over $6,000 of silent auction items. A special thanks to our sponsors: Sebastian River Medical Center, Melbourne International Airport and Vero Beach Magazine. Even when times are as tough as they are for everybody, the Chamber spirit keeps going. We appreciate everything! www.SebastianChamber.com Report: Summary - sebastianchamber.com Date Range: 01/01/2008 - 09/15/2008 Total Sessions Total Pageviews Total Hits Total Bytes Transferred Average Sessions Per Day Average Pageviews Per Day Average Hits Per Day Average Bytes Transferred Per Day Average Pageviews Per Session Average Hits Per Session Average Bytes Per Session Average Length of Session 135,120.00 652,239.00 2,118,271.00 139.52 GB 521.70 2,518.30 8,178.65 551.63 MB 4.83 15.68 1.06 MB 00:08:24 Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce Nominees for Board of Director’s Elections Susan Adams attended Florida State University earning a Juris Doctorate from the College of Law. Mitchell, Executive Director It seemed to me that a week or so ago, the weather changed. Since change is the most popular word in our language these days, I thought I would mention it. A few thoughts about change, be careful what you ask for, the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t, and the only difference between a rut and a grave is their dimensions. Before you know it, the “Bash” will be here! We have over seventeen acts lined up to perform throughout the November 14th, 15th and 16th weekend to help celebrate our 50th birthday, and to raise funds for the Chamber building. Excitement is starting to build! Tickets go on sale Oct. 1, so look for our advertising. We are promoting this event beyond the county line. Thanks to the IRC Commissioners who approved a special request for advertising dollars, it will be advertised in Orlando, Daytona, Brevard and South Florida. We hope to fill the hotels and restaurants that weekend, and bring in tourists and visitors who love good music. We will be looking for about 150 good men and women to volunteer throughout the weekend. If you are interested, Michelle Barkley is heading up the volunteers, give her a shout! All volunteers will receive a one day pass to the event, so you can put your four hours in, and then enjoy the rest of the day! With the elections coming up soon, the Chamber will hold a City of Sebastian Candidates Forum on Oct. 17, 2008. Thanks to the current City Council, we will be using their Chambers for the event, and it will be televised on the City Channel 25 for those of you who receive Comcast. We are looking forward to an interesting evening, with Indian River County Commissioner Wesley Davis as our moderator. We are in the process of formulating questions for the candidates, so if you have one, or have an issue you want the candidates to address, please give me a call. And if you don’t have Comcast, come and join us. We also are focusing on business. Our Score representative, Tom Spears, has scheduled a number of workshops with different topics. Recently, we had to cancel a workshop where the title was “Managing Your Cash.” I don’t know about you, but I thought everybody was having a harder time these days with the cash, so I was very surprised that there were no attendees. We are trying again this month. The topic will be about creating a business plan. Do you have one? Should you have one? And how do you get one? Are all questions that will be answered at this workshop, so check our calendar, if this is of interest to you, remember it is free. Doesn’t get any better than that. Have a profitable month!
