the strongest competition on an almost weekly base. Nico is the personification of the absolute top of Dutch pigeon
racing, grandmaster in sensational victories against massive birdages … winning 1st prizes is the highest goal in his
hometown Hardinxveld-Giessendam!!
The name Van Noordenne is similar to over 20 years of National glory. With the legendary and heroic victory on the leaden Barcelona

Every year again sensational victories are grabbed by Nico van Noordenne, most of them at National level. He is a fancier that does not cry out
loud about his successes; even still Nico earned a steady place amongst the greatest ever in Dutch pigeon racing.

bove all the name of Nico van Noordenne stands for a very dedicated and very skilful
pigeon fancier. Undoubtedly these characteristics are required to list absolute top performances against the very tough competition in South-Holland week in week out, year in
year out. In Nico’s case sometimes winning 1 st prizes seems almost naturally, for sure he does
not get them for free!

Nico is Mr. Modesty in person, despite the fact he has all reason to be extremely proud of all his
achievements in pigeon racing so far. When the topic is racing pigeons, directly the passionate
way Nico talks about his feathered love is striking. In his opinion, the key to success is a combination between good pigeons and good feeling for the pigeons … the first condition is for sale,
the second one is not. Without a doubt, these skills were passed on to Nico’s genes by his father
Laban.

From Nico’s 24 th year of life his father Laban decided it was time to appreciate the knowledge
in pigeons Nico acquired in the previous year. Therefore they entered the races since then under the name L. van Noordenne & Son. Nico had undoubtedly shown to control the finer arts of
pigeon racing and lived his life with pigeons as the most important factor in it … for the just as
fanatical fancier Laban the definite sign that Nico had become a ‘real pigeon fancier’. In all the
great successes of the nineties Nico had a real big share! Biggest example is probably the road
of success walked by the top cock ‘ Kasai’, the superstar that won 3x 1 st in big competition with
many more top positions. This cock was probably more addicted to Nico than to his hen. When
Nico entered the loft the white giant never left his side..
Ever since Laban was forbidden to enter the pigeon lofts because of health problems, Nico took
over the care of the total colony. That is also why they enter for races under the name of Nico van
Noordenne since 2002 … even though Laban still shows a great deal of interest in pigeons.
Nico is so clever to see that success does not come out of a pot or a pill. For him good pigeons
open the door to eternal victory. Despite his anti-commercial attitude his name is known worldwide … because Nico does not need to speak for himself, his results do it for him. He is one of the
next generation toppers; young and relegating the establishment to hobbyists. His name forms
the ‘nouveau riche’ of the present day pigeon sport together with names of superstars like Koopman, Peter van de Merwe, Marcel Sangers, Bas Verkerk, etc. … the names that will be honored as
the greatest of our sport in 50 years.

superbly on the late tour. The birds are paired up by the end of December,
when the youngsters are 14 days old the hens and the youngsters move to
the youngbirds loft. By the end of March the pigeons are paired up again
and after breeding 7 days they are put on the widowhood system.

1987 mit dem legendären Nationalsieg von Barcelona.

diese Erfolge errungen? Zum einen ist es der alte Bestand von
Vater Laban Noordenne. Dieser
hatte seinen Taubenstamm mit
den weltberühmten JanssenTauben über Arie Kant aus Werkendam aufgebaut. Arie Kant besaß 23 Originale der Gebr. Janssen auf seinen Schlägen. Als dieser mit dem Sport aufhörte,
konnte Laban Noordenne die
Tauben übernehmen. Diese wurden später mit Tieren von den
Gebr. Janssen, Kees Bosua, G. u
S. Verkerk, Cees van de Poel,
Marcel Sangers sowie zuletzt
Ludo Claessens ergänzt und verfeinert. Im Folgenden seien einige der Stammtauben vorgestellt.
The attempt to also race with hens, was no golden hit … all around him
Nico saw many fanciers succeeding with this system, however for him there
was hardly any extra value in racing hens. Nico therefore decided he would
not change his winning stile. In taking care of the pigeons Nico is very strict
and he takes a lot of time for it. In the quite season this is about three hours
and a half and in the racing-/breeding season it is five hours a day!! Besides he works at the office from 8.30 to 16.30. To finish everything in time in
the racing season he gets out of bed 5.45 am. Dedication at its purest form
therefore. Nico’s last vacation dates from 1986. That says it all!

Nico is responsible for the total care on his own, his dad Laban is allergic
to pigeons and the doctor forbid him to enter the lofts. Nico cleans the
lofts twice a day. The widowers get to train 2x a day, the youngsters once
a day and the widowhood hens are only liberated when the late tour begins. The pigeons are fed up towards the end of the week. In the medical
area grandmaster Nico has no big surprises. In the winter all pigeons get
a paratyphoid cure and when they are sitting on eggs Nico cures against
canker. During the season this canker cure is repeated , but not more than
once. When the pigeons return from the race they get glucose or Belgasol
in the drinking water. And once a week vitamins are given over the food.
Nico wants to win top positions against massive birdages and he is certainly not interested in winning an overall championship. Every year he skips
some races; for instance he does not enter his birds on Bergerac for many
years now, simply because he has no overnight pigeons in his loft. The
racing lofts of Nico measure a total length of 17 meters with old and young
birds in it. Five sections are for the widowhood cocks, three for the youngsters. The breeders are never let out and they are housed in a separate loft.
The widowhood hens Nico keeps in aviaries, first two weeks before the late
tour begins, the hens are transferred to the widowhood loft.
