10TH ANNUAL VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION TO BE HELD IN VINE GROVE
This year’s Hardin County Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 7. The
VFW Post 10281, North Hardin Lions Club, Cuque Janitorial Services and the City of Vine Grove are
sponsoring the event. This year’s theme is “The Year of the Non – Commissioned Officer (N. C. O.)”
The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the Vine Grove Fire Department and concludes at the Optimist Park.
Veterans, veterans groups and all who are interested may participate in the parade. The Fort Knox Chapter of
the Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) will award trophies for the most outstanding patriotic commercial
and noncommercial entries.
Children in grades one through eight may participate in the Patriotic Poster Contest. Posters should be
approximately 18” X 22” in size, and must be turned in at Vine Grove City Hall no later than November 4.
Posters entered in the contest will be on display at the Optimist Park on the day of the ceremony. Judging for
the contest will take place prior to the ceremony.
The ceremony, which starts after the parade at the Ewart Amphitheater in the Optimist Park, will include a
parachute jump, a flyover, and the Missing Man Ceremony. A release of patriotic balloons will conclude the
ceremony.

BLUEGRASS MUSIC’S BIGGEST STARS APPEAR AT 10TH VINE GROVE FESTIVAL
The 2009 Bluegrass festival drew large crowds with people from all across Kentucky and several other
states. Special representatives from Governor Steve Beshear’s office were in attendance.
The Vine Grove Festival is one of the premier events in Bluegrass music. This year, stellar performances
were given by superstars Rhonda Vincent, Michael Cleveland and the duo of Daily and Vincent. This trio of
bands has no less than 18 IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) awards, the industry’s highest
award.
Events were kicked off on Thursday with a free supper, followed by a band scramble. Other entertainment
included The Valley View Quartet and Testify. Tommy Brown & the County Line Grass rounded out the
evening.
Friday, The Vine Grove Express featuring local talent, Bobby Smith - Guitar, Vocals, Wayne Mabe- Banjo,
Steve Perry- Mandolin, Gerald Fowler-Bass, Frank Fowler- Guitar, Margaret Hamilton- Vocals, Melanie
Belfiore- Fiddle, Clogging, Vocals, and Maci Belfiore- Fiddle, Clogging, Vocals, started the evening.
Rhonda Vincent and the Rage entertained Friday night with two performances. Fans cheered for encores.
Rhonda holds IBMA awards for Female Vocalist of the Year for 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. She was also
named the IBMA Entertainer of the Year in 2001.

Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper, nominated in nine categories for this fall’s International Bluegrass
Music Association (IBMA) awards, performed twice on Friday evening. This talented group went on to win the
IBMA 2009 Instrumental Group of the Year; the 2009 IBMA Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year,
and Michael Cleveland was awarded the 2009 IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year. We congratulate Michael
Cleveland and Flamekeeper and wish them much future success!
Saturday, the Vine Grove Jammers started the day with their entertaining blend of music. This group was
formed as a result of the weekly Bluegrass jam sessions held in Vine Grove.
Hazel Holler was the next group to take the stage. This all-female group from Eastern Kentucky performed
regional Appalachian music, almost forgotten Country songs, Bluegrass and original songs.
Tommy Brown & the County Line Grass returned to entertain us twice on Saturday. They have appeared
on DIRECT TV’S “RFD” Cumberland Highlander Show, 2002 IBMA Fan Fest, Jerusalem Ridge Bluegrass
Celebration, Silver Dollar City, Bill Monroe's Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival and the Sally Mountain
Bluegrass Festival as well as countless other festivals and concert venues throughout the country.
Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent are the most heralded new act in Bluegrass. Their debut album
“Dailey & Vincent” (2008) and their busy tour schedule introduced them to wildly appreciative audiences. The
group took home seven awards at the 2008 IBMA Award Show, including Entertainer of the Year and Album of
the Year. It was no surprise to learn that this talented group took home even more awards this year. Those
awards are: the 2009 IBMA Entertainer of the Year, the 2009 IBMA Vocal Group of the Year, and the 2009
IBMA Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year for “On The Other Side”. We Congratulate Dailey &
Vincent and wish them continued success.
The crowd was delighted to have The Boys From Kentucky return to Vine Grove to perform twice on
Saturday. This six-member band comes from various areas of Tennessee and Kentucky. They performed at
our Bluegrass Festival for the first four years and again in 2008. Although this group officially retired when lead
singer and noted surgeon Dr. Carl Hinton moved they now reunite once a year just for our Vine Grove festival.
Big Country Bluegrass also performed Saturday with their own hard-driving style of Bluegrass that makes
them a crowd favorite. Festival goers enjoyed their sound, which is reminiscent of Bill Monroe and Lester Flat
& Earl Scruggs at their very best.
Despite the rain, overflow crowds filled the three big top style tents. The festival was a resounding success
due to all of the hard work from the many volunteers and sponsors, which include the Vine Grove Bluegrass
Festival, Inc., ReMax Executive Group and Principle Broker Jim Bramblett, Wal-Mart stores of Radcliff and
Elizabethtown, local merchants, the City of Vine
Grove and founding sponsor The Cecilian Bank.
This wonderful festival gets larger each year
because of the hard work of the Vine Grove
Bluegrass Festival Committee Incorporated. The
committee consists of Max and Ann Ewart, Don
Wise, Agnes Yates, David Pearman, Jason Basham
and Gerald Clephas.

MILITARY RECEPTION HELD IN VINE GROVE
Lt. Col. Alan Streeter, Commander of the 2-2 Infantry
Battalion, hosted a reception in the Vine Grove
Community Center on Friday, October 16.
The reception was an opportunity for community and
military leaders to meet one another.
Within the next year, the 1-16th Calvary Regiment, who
previously adopted Vine Grove, will leave Fort Knox. In its
place, the 2-2 Infantry will take over.
By adopting our community, these brave soldiers will
make themselves available in time of need. Most recently,
the 1-16th participated in the cleanup of our city following
the devastating ice storm in January.
Vine Grove thanks the 1-16th for their service and looks
forward to working with the 2-2 Infantry.
AREA CHURCHES TO PROVIDE
THANKSGIVING SERVICE & MEAL
Vine Grove area churches will sponsor a
Community Thanksgiving Service on Sunday
November 22, at 2 p.m. at St. Brigid Church.
Meat and drinks will be provided for the
meal. Attendees are asked to bring side
dishes and desserts. The meal will be in the
St. Brigid Community Center, followed by a
worship service in the Sanctuary.

VALLEY VIEW CHURCH TO PRESENT CHRISTMAS MUSICAL
“A Baby Changes Everything - A Christmas Musical” will be presented by the Music & Drama Ministries of the
Valley View Baptist Church on Sunday, December 13, at 6 p.m. The event will take place in The Historic State
Theater in downtown Elizabethtown.
Renowned Christian composers Deborah Craig Claar and David T. Clydesdale created the musical. They have
been prolific in their careers, creating such musicals as Raise the Crown, Joy, Joy, Joy! and Acorns to Oaks.
There will be no charge for the event, as Valley View considers this a way to give to the community in a season
for giving. Although the event starts at 6 p.m., everyone is advised to come early to get a good seat.

AUCTION FOR THE CHILDREN KICKS OFF HOLIDAY SEASON
As the tradition continues, the city’s holiday season will begin with a Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, December
3, at 6 p.m. in the Vine Grove Community Center. A FREE chili supper will be served and entertainment will be
provided.
The highlight of the evening is the annual auction. Cakes and desserts, as well as other items, such as
Christmas decorations, toys and other goods are included in the auction. Proceeds go the Christmas for the Kids
program. This program ensures that underprivileged children receive clothing and other necessities for Christmas.
