Year 6 Recounts from
Delicate Nobby Camp
On Thursday morning we awoke excited for the day ahead.
We finshed our breakfast and got ready to leave before any of
the other campers were awake. It was an extremely bumpy
ride down to Bill Hill along the dirt road. When we arrived we
were met by the surf instructors, Kev and Dundee.
The water was clear and blue. It was beautiful. We had an
ebbing tide and lovely gentle waves and a calm sunny
morning. Since we surfed in groups some kids waited on the
beach. They passed the time by playing with sports
equipment.
For those who surfed it was a fantastic lesson. When surfing
finished we gathered and ate crunch and sip with recess. It
was a privilege to surf at Big Hill.
Bianca and Latisha
After surfing we had cakes, biscuits, fruit (grapes and apples)
and slices to get us energised for the ride up to Big Hill.
Exhausted, we parked our bike at the car park that lead to
One Tree Beach. We carefully walked down the rocky slope
that led to the beach. Being very careful not to tread on the
loose rocks that fell all the way down to the one tree on the
beach.
We walked into the cave wondering what it would be like
living in the cave just like the hermit named Billy Hill. Big Hill
was named after him. Billy had no contact with any other
human except for one or two people who staggered into the
cave. As we went into the cave we saw rock pools, rocks and
the other entrance that led to the ocean.
When we were finished we scrambled up the slope. We were
sad to leave but happy to go.
Teiya and Matthew H
Stage 3 eagerly waiting for the ride down to Delicate Nobby.
It seemed like hours until we rode up to the beach. Suddenly
the howling southerly wind hit us all and we rode slowly along
Back Beach making our way to Racecourse. We made it after
what seemed like forever. Tiredly, we pushed our bikes off
the beach and onto Racecourse pick area.
Thank goodness Mum had packed me an extra drink and
heaps of food.
Jamaine and Denver
On Thursday, after their last surfing lesson, Years 5 and 6 went
on an enormous ride up Big Hill. Most of us pushed our way
up the Hill into the beautiful rainforest that led us to One Tree
Beach. By the time we got to the top, our legs were aching
and we were all exhausted.
After One Tree we turned and rode freely down the hill. Some
of us went slower down than up. The wind blew softly into
our hair and faces. The dust from the rocky road was in front
of us like a sand storm making it hard to see where the pot
holes were.
When we got to the bottom we enjoyed some delicious
sandwiches then rode back to camp.
Lily, Sienna and Caleb
Well there were definitely some funny camping experiences.
We had Shae-ala who had a big fright from Jonte and Kullen
while going to get her torch. We had Matthew L, Caleb and
Jamaine who put on a hilarious shadow puppet act for the
teachers just 5 minutes before lights out. We also had Lily,
Bianca, Destani and Latisha who were up for at least 2 hours
getting a fright from Jerris the goanna.
Shae-ala, Destani and Matthew L
On Wednesday afternoon, although we were tired from the
ride, we walked across to the beach. We were allowed to
jump down the sand dune and climb on Delicate Nobby. After
having lots of fun we lined up in our house colours and had
relay races. The first race was a long running race. We sped
around the cones and returned, tapping the next runner. In
the second race the first person lay down facing everyone
else. As the teachers said go, they jumped up and ran. The
last race was a backwards race.
Later that night, after dinner, we went back to the beach with
our torches so we could play spotlight. The sports captains
hid near the dunes, while everyone else crept along trying to
reach Mrs Marks without getting noticed and named by the
sports captains.
We walked back to our tents, talking about the game, which
some people might think was really bad because the moon
was so bright.
So our fun Wednesday afternoon came to a close with
everyone tired.
Amelie, Eli and Jack
Friday morning we woke up eagerly waiting to go home.
Every hour we stayed at camp seemed to be 3. At 1pm we
finally departed camp and together we headed to Racecourse.
We rode 12km along the beach with a blustery north-easterly
wind. The sand flicked onto our legs, and trust us, it stung!
Once we finally got to the road we headed back to school to
get our bikes hosed off. Mr Cross gave us a lovely spray with
the hose. We were all so jubilant when we saw our families.
Everyone loved this camp and thought it was tremendous.
Nadia, Kullen and Byron

The booking sheets for these important interviews were
sent home last Monday. Parents now need to return
these forms with the preferred times to visit their child’s
class teacher. The teachers will then send a confirmation
note to families to let them know the time that has been
organised.
Please assist us by returning these notes promptly this
week. Please note that the interviews are for all children

The students in Kindergarten, K/1, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3
and Year 3/4 participated in the National Day of Action
Against Bullying last Friday. They participated in
activities in class to develop skills in building positive
relationships with their peers, showing empathy to
others and being caring and considerate towards others.
The Year 1 students then hosted an assembly where all
classes were able to share the work they had done and
the skills they had learnt in class. This was a very positive
day and it was wonderful to see so many of our young
students up on stage confidently presenting their work.
A reminder that camp confirmation notes and $50
deposit for the Stage 2 excursion to Adventure Land in
Forster, are due back at the school office by this
Thursday 24th March. Please complete and return the
note, even if your child is unable to attend the camp.

COMPETITIONS 2016
YEARS 3-6 ALL SUBJECTS
YEAR 2 – ENGLISH & MATHEMATICS
Each year students from our school take part in the University
of NSW Academic Competitions. In the past we have had
many students awarded distinctions and credits as well as
plenty of participation certificates. If you would like your
child to take part in any or all of these competitions,
money and note need to be returned to the front office
by Friday 29th April 2016. The entry fee for most of the
competitions is about $8 however, Spelling and Writing cost
extra as these papers are individually marked by experienced
teachers using a criterion referenced marking scheme. This
year we are offering a package deal with parents being able to
opt for a 3 subject choice of Science, Maths and English for
$20 entry fee, or a 5 package deal for $30, as our school will
pay the difference. Students need to be at school on the
given dates as papers MUST be administered under exam
conditions.
If you have any questions, please contact Mr Lobb at
