It is hard to believe that August is already upon us and our summer program
will be winding down. All of the classrooms are planning special events to end
the summer including pizza parties, ice-cream parties, and some fun field
trips. Watch your child’s classroom for further details regarding special activities. Our summer program ends August 18th and many of our children will be
moving to a new classroom on August 22nd to begin our fall program. If your
child will be moving to a new classroom, you will receive a note in your parent mailbox.
We are gearing up for our busy and fun filled week during the John Deere
Golf Classic and most of our preschool classrooms and school age classrooms
will be going on some exciting field trips August 10-12. You will receive a specific letter the first week of August if your child will be involved.
Friendships are more than just fun; they are an important part of your
child’s social and emotional development. In fact, childhood friendships help
children make friends easily and naturally. But for others, making friends is
harder.
Usually young children need help in forming and learning how to behave
with friends. Under the age of three, don’t expect your child to share with a
friend. And often, very young children won’t play with each other; they will
play next to each other. Teaching HOW to be a friend is much harder than it
seems. Talk about the concepts and feelings of friendship for a few minutes
each day.
Have a great month!

This month, I am currently working with the children on basic social skills that they will need to be successful in their daily lives. Such
skills include taking turns, listening, teamwork, responsibility, empathy, etc. I am utilizing “Outdoor” themed activities that are playful and
also focus on their social-emotional skills. This past week, each class created a “classroom pet caterpillar”. The children are responsible
for naming the pet, feeding the pet, playing with the pet, and even giving the pet a possible hair-cut! This activity helps build teamwork,
empathy, and ownership for their newly created friend. The children, and I think the teachers too, really enjoyed making this addition to
the classroom. So make sure you inquire about their classroom pet and ask to be introduced to him/her next time you are in the classroom! This is just an example of how you, as parents, can make activities become playful and also create an opportunity to learn and
practice life skills.

Hello from the Puggles
We will be seeing some staff changes later this month. Karissa will be going back to
school and Sam will be leaving for a new adventure. We want to remind our families
how important it is to fill out your child’s daily sheet each day. This gives us important
information we will need to know about your child. Please make sure your child has
weather appropriate and size appropriate clothing in their boxes. Please make sure
you are washing your child’s hands each morning. We can’t believe summer is almost
over already!
Hello from the Joeys
The younger Joeys would like to welcome Bauer Luken, Caydance
Arrington and Joshua Story Jr. to their classroom. The older Joeys have welcomed Omar Cole and Melissa Ronzon. We have enjoyed spending time outside in the warm weather. Please remember to check your child’s box for weather appropriate clothing and
any art work. Our scheduled water day is on Wednesday.
Hello from the Tiger Cubs
Summer is coming to an end! Please make sure your child has
closed toed shoes to go outside. NO FLIP FLOPS! Check your
child’s box for weather appropriate clothing (shorts, short
sleeve shirts). Please write your child’s initials on the tags of
their clothing and coats. We ask that you put their jacket in the
blue bag hanging on their hook. Our themes for this month are
Our 5 senses, Our Favorite Books, Nursery Rhymes Body
Parts and Textures. Please welcome our new Tiger Cub’s
Carter, Cali and Mubina. We would like to wish a Happy Birthday to Victoria (8th).
Hello from the Penguins
July was a fun and exciting month for the Penguins! We learned about 4th of July, Pets, Camping, Five
Senses, and learned about Zoo Animals! We also went on a field trip to the John Deere Commons and
Riverside Park and had a picnic. In August, we will be focusing our learning the Letters of the Alphabet.
We also have a lot more field trips coming up! We would like to welcome our new friends, Ethan and
Aamir, and Amanda to our class! We are excited to have you both and look forward to watching you
learn and grow! We want to wish lots of love and luck to our friend, Yonathon, as he moves down the hall
to pre-k. We are going to miss you! Just a reminder to check your child’s art boxes and to make sure they
have enough changes of clothes in their boxes. We do sprinkler day every Tuesday that we do not have a
field trip. The kids love playing in the water/sprinklers! If you have any other questions, please feel free
to ask us anytime! Happy August!
Hello from the Zebras
Please check your child's box for weather appropriate clothing (shorts, short sleeves,
etc.) If you child is in diapers, please have 1 extra outfit in their box. If your child is
in underwear, we would like 3 extra outfits and a change of shoes. Our theme for
this month is the Alphabet. Closed toed shoes must be wore on the playground.
If your child wears sandals, please send a pair of shoes to change in to. Staffing
will be changing this month in our room. Michele will be home on maternity leave. At
the end of the month Holly will also be home on maternity leave. Happy Birthday Santana (6th). Goodbye to Lillian and Emma as they have moved down the hall to Preschool. We would like to welcome Ean, Jake and Victoria to our room.
Hello from the Monkeys
We have been having an awesome summer in the Monkeys room. We still have a few field trips left, if any
parents would like to join us on a field trip just let a staff member know. We would love to have you! This
month we will be going to the Family Museum, Zoo, John Deere Pavilion, and Browning Park/Country
Style. It is very important to have your child be here by 8:30 on field trip days with their car
seat. We need to have time to put all of the car seats on the bus and put sunscreen on all of the children
before we leave. This month we will be learning about Shapes, Farm, Construction, and All About Me. Please
check your child’s classroom mailbox daily for important papers, artwork, etc. We are required to go outside
if the temperature is below 90 degrees so please dress your child accordingly. Also, please check your child’s
hallway box to make sure they have plenty of extra shirts, shorts, and underwear in case of accidents or spills.
Hello from the Giraffes
Summer is almost over and the children had fun in the sprinkler and on fieldtrips.
We want to welcome Ethan and Michael to the Giraffe classroom. We want to welcome Wyatt back on the 15th . Please bring in bug spray if possible, the mosquitos
are so bad outside this year. Be sure to have your children here by 9:30. Be sure
that your child brings in tennis shoes to wear outside/fieldtrips for safety reasons.
We will be going to Jungle Bungle on Aug. 12 with the Wallaby class. Happy birthday
to Ariana on the 10th. The preschool program will start on Aug. 24 and we will have
a Pre K teacher Stacey who will start on that day. Good bye to all of our kindergarteners and we wish them well, it’s hard to see them go off to school, but we know
they are ready to learn more and they are the future. Mr. Michael (AmeriCorps)
will also be leaving us to go back to Western and finish his schooling, and he will be
missed by all.

Tips For Kindergarten
1.
2.
3.
4.
Visit the school in advance with your child.
Talk to your child about your Kindergarten experience.
Read books over the summer with your child.
Have a plan for the first day of school. Pick out clothes ahead, pack
lunch and have everything in their backpack ready to go the night before.
5. Limit the activities your child will be doing after school when school
first begins. Your child will be tired.
6. Get your child in to a bedtime routine.
7. Set up a morning routine.
8. Talk to your child about riding the bus if they will be doing so.
9. Talk to your child about what to do if they are hurt or upset.
10. Have your child practice following directions.
11. Let your child know it is ok to be anxious. Everyone is anxious when
doing something new for the first time.
12. Continue to talk to your child about what is happening at school. This
will help them feel more connected to school.
