Moline High School Educator Named Co-STEM Teacher of the Year
Moline-Coal Valley School District announces that Mr. William Carlough has been named 2015
QCESC Co-STEM Teacher of the Year by the Quad City Engineering & Science Council. Carlough
will be honored at the 53rd Annual National Engineers Week Banquet on Thursday, February 26 at
6:45 pm, at John Deere’s Worldwide Headquarters, Moline.
Carlough began his career in Moline as an Industrial Technology teacher at Wilson Middle School in
1995 after serving as a high school teacher in Sherrard. In 2000, he began teaching Industrial
Technology at Moline High School and became Department Chair in 2003. In all, Carlough has
twenty-four years’ experience teaching Industrial Technology. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree
in Industrial Arts from Williams Penn College and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration
from Western Illinois University. Carlough is nationally certified in three engineering disciplines by
“Project Lead The Way”: Introduction to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering and Digital
Electronics.
“Bill Carlough’s work at Moline High School has made a significant impact on both students and his
colleagues. He introduced “Project Lead The Way” to MHS and this program has allowed countless
students to be exposed to the skills needed in the engineering field. Bill’s work and dedication has
been invaluable in expanding the program,” said Principal Dan McGuire. “He is a strong advocate
for providing all students with meaningful and relevant educational experiences. Bill’s knowledge
of the engineering and the building trades allows him to bring a unique perspective to his classes. He
knows first-hand what students need to succeed and he is determined to help them reach their
goals. His commitment to students makes us proud to have him as a valuable member of our MHS
staff!”
“Having the opportunity to implement the engineering program at Moline High School these past ten
years has been challenging and very gratifying. This has been accomplished with support from the
administration and staff, especially my fellow engineering teacher, Todd Thompson. The truly
rewarding part is seeing the growth of the students over their time here at Moline High School and
following several students into their careers in engineering,” said Carlough.
