President’s Message
By Rick Veradt
Where did another year go? It seems as I grow older the years pass more quickly. I hope you all had a
good 2012 and are looking forward to 2013.
The Board had a long year but much was accomplished. As stated before we cut costs without cutting
service and continue to look for ways to operate more efficiently. We have the water issue under control and
just need the ACC to approve our agreement. The Board will have a full plate this year and we will continue to
move forward.
Have you seen the front entrance lately? That is the accomplishment of
one man. Board member Charlie Stutts took a couple of months working by
himself to spruce up the area. He never asked for anything. He just did it. If you
see him give him a “thank you.”
Looking for a nice place to vacation? My bride and I just got back from
our 5th trip to Jamaica. We stayed at the Sandals resort in Negril, home of the7
mile beach. It’s a beautiful country with wonderful people. We traveled quite a
bit and went inland to some historic areas and I ate food native to Jamaica. Who
thought I would like curried goat and curried octopus?
I wish there was something to report but things have been slow. As we
get into the New Year and everyone returns from their various travels I am sure
we will find things that need to be done. Until then, have a Happy New Year!!

Golf Course News
By Patrick Friend
Here it is…finally, it seems that winter has arrived. The cool overnight temperatures are sure reflecting
in the colors of the golf course. Soon though, very soon, spring will grace us with its presence and we will be
off and running again.
Pro Shop News: Don’t forget to stop by and check out the deals we have going through the end of the
month on our merchandise. Winter wear is now 20% off, and we’ve got some great deals on golf balls. Stop by
today!!!
For those of you who haven’t taken advantage already, don’t forget to come in and get that Annual
Membership renewed. Through January 15th, 2013 we are continuing our “Membership Drive”. Hurry in today
to take advantage of the discounted rates, listed on the back page of the newsletter.
Soon we will be hosting the 2nd Annual April Fools Tournament, sponsored by Waste Management.
Look for more details to come, or stop by the Pro Shop for the details on this great event.
Golf Course News: It’s definitely that time of year for us. We are spending most of our time
concentrating on small projects and getting our equipment back in shape after a long summer run. It won’t be
long, I’m sure, before we are out and running at it again. The colors of the course are showing a little of our
normal “winter look”, but don’t fear, I will have this place back in shape early this spring. I am pushing to make
this year the best it has ever been.
I’d like send out another HUGE THANKS, to all who showed up for the golf maintenance clean-up and
lent a hand. It’s a major accomplishment, and it is truly nice to have a clean, junk-free environment to work in.
We are making several small changes to help speed up production, and cut costs going into spring. Thanks
again!!!
I hope everyone enjoyed their Holiday Season, and until next month…thanks to all the employees and
volunteers who keep us afloat!!!

Library News
by Diane Druian
Mohave County libraries are closed on Tuesday, January 1st for the holiday.
Do you like snakes? I hope you do, because 2013 is the Year of the Snake in the
Chinese Lunar Calendar and Valle Vista children will have a chance make a craft that
celebrates the Year of the Snake in this month’s youth program: Celebrate Chinese
New Year @ Your Library. This free program is for kids of all ages, Birth to 18 years
and takes place on Tuesday, January 15 from 4-5 p.m.
This month adults have a chance to bag a book bag! Come to the library on Wednesday,
January 9th at 2:30 p.m. to decorate a book bag. Everyone will take their bag home. This
is a free program with all supplies provided by the library. This is part of our adult
programming series and is not appropriate for children under 17.
If you have come into the library recently, you’ve seen our progress on setting up a reading
area in honor of our dear friend, Shirley Hartman. We have our chair and a table
with a lamp attached. Several people are contributing their work to this project.
There are some finishing touches to be done still but when all is complete, there will be a
dedication ceremony open to all the community and we can say our thanks to all who have
helped. Please watch for an announcement.
We hope you are off to a good start to a new year and we hope we’ll see you often at the
library in 2013.

COMPLIANCE COMMITTEE
By Sue Wilkin
The Committee held their monthly meeting on December 10. This month we were able to resolve various
complaints and there were two permits issued for improvements.
We have two new members of our Committee, Elaine Hible and Jack Eriksen. They will be working on
establishing our soon-to-be Neighborhood Watch Patrol.
Now that winter is finally here the Committee will be resuming our inspections, looking for excess weeds,
debris, fire hazards and unlicensed vehicles and trailers. Should we find any of the above, the property owner
will be sent a notice to correct the violation. Another problem we are seeing is indiscriminate walking of dogs
on the roads and to the side of our streets. If you walk your dog, please clean up after it.
Our next meeting will be held on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 9:30 A.M. at the Clubhouse. Anyone who
wishes to attend our meeting or join our committee is welcome.

Jean’s Corner
January, what can I say. If you are reading this we must be ok. We did not
hurl to the sun, or explode into space. Wow, I guess dealing with our cows is
being in the right place. I always wanted to live in the country, maybe have a
few cows and chickens. Well here I have cows, a few old goats and bunnies
all around, as close as I will ever get to living on a farm. I love it. Maybe we
should just name our herd. How about Honest Abe for our huge bull? Kind of
has a ring to it.
Of course don't forget Maisie and Daysie, his play mates. We came home the
other day and they were just laying in the vacant lot next to our house,
peaceful as could be. We have always wanted close neighbors. Perhaps they
are thinking of building a place. I’d love to see the plans they submit to our
building committee. I would guess it would be a very open space, but it would
have to be at least 1000 square feet. We do have rules. Welcome to the New
Year with all its wonderful prospects. Jean Hollers

WHAT’S COOKIN?
By Shari Schnell
Hello Friends! Greetings to each of you in this New Year and may you be surrounded by the love of family and
friends! As we begin another year may peace and good will be a constant and the spirit of hope fill the hearts of
all. Sometimes just listening to someone bare their heart can change everything for them, and for us. I recall
the many conversations I had with clients in my hair salon in Minnesota, over the years, and how I was often
able to “make a difference” by merely listening. They say hairdressers hear “everything”, and yes, I believe I
did. We, too, dealt with the horror of a school shooting near my city in Red Lake, MN. where many lives were
lost. Things like that should never happen in a civilized world. We can’t change the world but we can do small
things to make it better. I like to think sharing of our time and listening to others in need can plant a seed of
happiness which is certainly going in the right direction. Many problems have been solved over the kitchen
table. Enjoy this month’s recipes, both old favorites of mine, and may we find new ways to reach out to others
in the coming year! Enjoy!
COCOA MIX
10 cups [Carnation] powdered milk
6 .5 ounce Coffeemate powder
1 pound Nestle’s Quik
1 cup powdered sugar
Combine in large bowl and store in covered jar. Add ½ cup of mixture per one cup of hot water, top with minimarshmallows to serve. This is so good on a cold day!
MYSTERY PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES
Preheat oven to 350 degrees, grease a large cookie sheet or use parchment paper, which I prefer.
1 cup peanut butter, creamy or crunchy
1 cup sugar 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla extract
Combine all ingredients with a spoon and make into balls the size of a walnut. [No need to use a mixer] Place
on baking sheet and crisscross a design on top of each, OR, press a Hershey’s Kiss into center of each. Bake
10-12 minutes and cool on sheet for several minutes before removing to a cooling rack. Sprinkle with sugar
while cooling. Yields about 18 “flourless” cookies which are truly delicious.
