BIDDABAH PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Thursday 21 July 2016 Microfibre Jacket Senior Shirt Junior Shirt Dear Parents Week 1 Term 3 Issue Principal’s Message Education Week Principal’s Reading Challenge Mathletics Banking Awards Plover Awards Newsletter Item 1B & 2MC Dance Groups Sport News Save the Date Environmental Care Group Canteen Roster School Diary School Fete Info Advertisements It is great to be back for a new term. We have lots of exciting things planned which I’m sure will make the term go quickly. I have heard lots of interesting reports describing the vast range of activities that students, staff and parents managed to fit into 2 weeks of the holidays. Uniform Changes Senior boys- new style shirt (pictured) and either green microfibre shorts or grey shorts Senior girls-new style shirt (pictured) skirt and green microfibre shorts Junior boys- new style shirt (pictured) and either green microfibre shorts or grey shorts Junior girls- new style shirt (pictured) tunic and either green box pleat shorts or grey box pleat shorts We have had a very positive parent response to the changes that have been recommended for our school uniform. The changes will make the process of ordering and supplying uniforms, in a timely manner, easier for our small dedicated group of volunteers who run our uniform shop. The main reason for the change is due to the difficulties that have occurred with some of the suppliers, particularly with the grey polo shirts. Orders have been coming back partially filled, incorrectly filled and usually not in a workable timeframe. As you would understand, this increases the workload for all involved and also means that they are dealing with the one order a number of times. Our aim, through the changes, is to streamline the whole process. If you wish to have a look at some samples of the new products, they are in the foyer. You will find the link on the Biddabah PS website which will allow you to have a say in the changes. We need to move on this so that our orders for 2017 can be placed by mid-August. If you are having trouble going online, there will be a laptop in the foyer for your use and the office staff are more than happy to help you get to the site. You will also find a link attached to Skoolbag. PHONE: 4954 6058 FAX: 4956 6780 EMAIL: [email protected] 1 Staffing Mr Mason will remain on leave. Ms Minett will continue as Relieving Principal. They have worked hard all year preparing for this event and look AMAZING! We would like to wish them all the best of luck for their performances. We know they will dazzle the audience with their talent. A huge thankyou goes to Miss Simone for her hard work choreographing the spectacular routines and teaching our students. Tickets for this event can be purchased from proticket.com for $18 each. BIDDABAH PUBLIC SCHOOL CHOIR During Semester 2 students from Years 2-6 have the opportunity to join the Biddabah School Choir again. In weeks 2 and 3 the students will be able to trial the choir before committing for the remainder of the year. I am looking forward to hearing all our beautiful voices! Mrs Osborn Term 3 Open Dance Groups SCRIPTURE We are inviting any child from Year 1 – Year 6 to join our school dance groups this term. If your child is interested they need see Mrs McEwan for a dance permission note as soon as possible. Girls and boys are both welcome to join and no prior dance experience is necessary. A dance fee of $35 needs to be paid to cover the cost of employing our dance teacher Miss Simone. Notes and fees are due by 29th July. There is a limit to the number of students allowed in each group so the children who get in first with their permission notes and money will secure the places. Lessons will begin in Week 3. Year 3 Scripture (SRE) students have fun! They love drama. During Scripture they studied Samuel to Daniel and the Easter stories. It was a joy to teach Year 3! Marian Joyce Dance Group Assembly Performance 29th July Next week our dance groups The Little Gems, The Opals and The Blue Diamonds will be performing their dances (in costumes) for the whole school during the Friday Assembly. Parents are welcome to come along and watch. Assembly Talent Performances: Biddabah’s Got Talent Biddabah Public School has some very talented students. We would like to give our students the opportunity to showcase their talent to the school during our weekly Friday Assemblies. If your child has a particular talent that they would like to show the school eg: singing, dancing, drama, playing an instrument, magic show, comedy etc, they need to see Mrs McEwan to arrange an audition. This week Xavier Towers from 1X will be our first Biddabah’s Got Talent contestant. He will be performing a lyrical dance routine for the school. Good luck Xavier! Mrs McEwan ABSENCE OR LATE LEAVERS OR EARLY LEAVERS At Biddabah we now use computer roll marking. This means the system will generate a note to you for unexplained absences . Late children should be accompanied and signed in by a parent otherwise a explanation request will be sent home. 3 BANKING NEWS LIBRARY NEWS A quick reminder to all families that Book Week 2016 runs from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th August. Our book fair will be held early that week and I will let everyone know as soon as a day has been set. Our visiting author is Oliver Phommavanh - an Australian author, comedian and teacher! Oliver will conduct a series of workshops on Thursday 25th August for Kindergarten to Year 6 and promises to be highly entertaining, engaging and informative. Further information will be sent home. Friday 26th August is the day of our Kindergarten to Year 2 Book Parade. All students (and their teachers) are requested to dress up as a book character and join in the fun. It is not a competition and a book prize for a participating student from each year will be drawn at random. Please do not go to great expense - this is purely a fun parade to encourage students to share their love of books and characters. If you are struggling for ideas, feel free to contact me and I will share some ideas (but remember, there are many books with princesses, pirates and cowboys, for example). Finally, there was a BookClub order placed through the office from Issue 3 but the order did not have a name (or even a class) on it and the money was not correct for what was ordered. If any student is still waiting for a book from the last issue, please contact the office! Mrs Freund Teacher in the Library! Co-ordinated by Planet Ark and proudly sponsored by Toyota, these are special days for all Australians to help out by planting and caring for native trees and shrubs to improve the environment in which they live. National Tree Day started in 1996 and since then more than 3 million people have planted 21 million seedlings! National Tree Day is on Friday the 29th of July in 2016, but at Biddabah we have registered our tree planting morning with the Student Garden Club on Thursday the 28th of July. Josie Minett Relieving Principal 10 Biddabah Public School’s Biennial Twilight Fete will be held on Saturday 22nd October 2016. The Committee has been busy planning a fun-filled afternoon for the community to make this our best Fete yet! Amusements and rides are bigger and better than before and we’ve had lots of enquiries about stalls and activities. One of our most successful stalls in the past has been the Hamper Stall. Its success is largely due to the generous donations from our Biddabah families. As done previously, we have allocated each Year group with a theme for hampers and are asking for donations (big or small) that can go towards making hamper baskets in the lead up to our Twilight Fete. Themes are listed below and we greatly appreciate all contributions. Kindergarten Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Year 4 Year 5 Year 6 Christmas Goods (any festive items suitable to make up Christmas Hampers) New baby items (Baby Hamper items – bibs, socks, bathwash, rattles, singlets, etc) Gardening & Outdoors (gardening tools, gloves, watering can, hose attachments) Beauty/Womens + Mens Toiletries (bath wash, lotions, soaps, candles, etc) Cooking/BBQ/Picnic (Utensils, Picnic cutlery, Napery, Tea & Coffee, mugs, rugs etc) Car/Camping/Sports (Carwash, first aid items, fishing gear, gym gear etc) Beauty/Womens + Mens Toiletries (bath wash, lotions, soaps, candles, nail polish etc) We will also be seeking donations of chocolate bars, books, jars (filled) which will be used for our Chocolate Toss game, our Book Stall and Kindy Jar Stall. Further details on stalls, activities, ride passes and performances will be forwarded in the coming weeks. We are looking forward to seeing you all at our Twilight Fete and thank you for supporting the P&C and our Biddabah community. 11 12
