Library Closings
Mon. May 30
Congratulations to the Friends of the Library for another successful book sale. It is amazing
Memorial Day
how this group of volunteers transforms our Community Room into a vast ocean of books
for their four-day sale. They are truly a very hard working and dedicated group who raise a substantial amount of
funding for the library. Not only is it amazing how they set up the book sale but more amazing is how they take it
down in 2.5 hours!
We have exciting news! The Teen Department has been awarded a grant from the Foundation of Greater New
Britain for a summer Hip Hop Dance Workshop. There will be 2 workshops: one for kids and another for teens,
which will meet on Thursdays for 5 weeks starting in July. Workshops will be taught by a professional hip hop artist,
Justin “JuS” Hues. Keep your eye out for the signups.
Save the Date. Literary Libations, Vol. IV, our popular fundraiser, returns! Mark your calendars for Friday,
September 9, 2016 from 5 pm – 8 pm. It will be held at Trinity on Main. Come meet our New Britain talent as we
present a showcase of local authors. Food will be provided by Angelo’s Market. More details will be coming. Join us
and celebrate the library.

Our April book sale was a winner, raising much needed money for materials and programs
for the library that the budget cannot provide. This successful sale is the result of generous
donations of books and media, and the contributions of time, energy and expertise by
library staff and volunteers. Thank you all for your support. Special thanks to Capitol Lunch
who brought us some of their famous (and really delicious) hot dogs one afternoon much to
the delight of hungry workers. Special thanks also to the CREC Medical Professions and
Teachers Preparation Academy Girls Volleyball team and the Middle School Track and Field
team who, along with the National Junior Honor Society, their coaches and advisors, helped
us set up and take down the sale. The sale does require many hours of hard work, but it is so much fun for us to
once again see loyal book lovers who never miss the Friends’ book sales and to meet new book lovers.
Save the dates: the Friends’ Fall Sale will be held in October beginning with the Preview on Wednesday October 12
and continuing through to Saturday, October 15. We hope to see you there.
Donations of books and media (no VHS tapes please) are accepted year round and can be left on the tables inside
the double doors on the parking lot level of the library. Please mark the box or bag “Friends Donation.”
Special categories at the Every Day Book Sale for May are Military History and Summer Cooking featuring cook
books about grilling and barbeque. The author of the month is Ruth Rendell.
