Since our re-opening, it’s been an amazing, busy and
exciting four months at s.81 Hair.
Hair I just want to take
this opportunity to thank all of our loyal and new
clients who have made our comeback so warm and
welcoming. It was so awesome to hear the positive
feedback about the salon’s design, colours and layout. It was a fun process and to see it brought to life
for you, the client and was very exciting for us all.

As scary as it seems, it’s not long before the busy Christmas period. So make sure
you re-book your appointments right up until then especially into the
New Year.

s.81 Hair are dedicated to training and educating our stylists to be up to date with
all current fashion trends, cutting, styling and colouring to allow us to offer highquality hairdressing. We have training nights on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
after 5.30pm. This is to give our junior stylists the opportunity to be in a supervised
training environment and still have the ability to be creative and learn at the same
time. These haircuts are free of charge as services may take longer than normal. We
thank you for your patience. Bookings are essential so contact: 9670 1072 or ask
your stylist. Every stylist is at a different level so any cut/style is welcome.

The Chop!
Say goodbye to the length ladies, as shorter hair starts to dominate this season.
Look in any magazine and you’ll find an array of celebrities turning to the cropped
‘do for low maintenance, easy styling and a fashion forward edge.
Shorter styles can be designed differently depending on your face-shape. Remember that your short style doesn’t have to be boyish or manly. It’s about creating
sharp and short back and sides contrasting with a soft and feminine top section or
a little longer to complement a rounder face shape. You can also do very sharp
and short and heavily textured on top à la Agyness Deyn or PINK.
The bob,
bob seen mastered here by Katie Homes and Katy Perry, compliments the
rounder and oval face shapes that give a little softness around the jaw line. The
style is too easy and versatile. It can be worn straight and sleek for more sophistication or messy, beachy with a lot of texture for a more casual feel. The shape can
last up to 6-8 weeks.

Victoria Beckham seen sporting the “pob”
“pob”, can really be suited to any face shape,
hair type and texture. By keeping the sides longer, it elongates a short and round
face shape. By shortening the sides, it will balance a more narrow face. Having
very fine and smooth textured hair, Posh is able to create a lot of volume and lift by
shaping it in at the back and shorter on the crown. If your hair is a little thicker and
courser, it can be straightened and smoothed to allow natural lift to complement
the style. Weight can also be removed for it to appear flatter and easier to manage. The style can last no more than 4-6 weeks.
At Home: Depending on hair type, this style can be styled in a various amount of
ways. When styling smooth and straight with a ghd IV styler*, $299, remember to

So you’ve decided that the pixie is for you! Like Rihanna and PINK it’s a gutsy
change but one that can be made over time and a few haircuts to gauge your
comfort level. With this look, your features become more dramatic and more attention is drawn to them so make sure your make-up is flawless and your grooming is
consistent. By tweaking the haircut a little, it can be suited to all face shapes. For a
rounder face shape - keeping it a little sharper and geometric or keeping the front
longer to elongate the face. By shortening and texturising the top, you will balance
a narrower face and keep the style punkier and fresher. Being of a higher maintenance with fabulous impact, this style requires trimming at least every 4-5 weeks.
At Home: Styling the cut can be too easy! Again, depending on your hair texture
and density you can have a lot of versatility. If your hair is on the thicker, courser
side- get ready to plug in your ghd IV styler*, $299. Don’t just create sleek straight
hair with your ghd- try rolling the barrel by creating some movement and flicks in
you pixie ‘do. Before ghd styling—ALWAYS THERMAL PROTECT*, $30, by ghd. After

and hold. For an edgy up ‘do and something different, try blow drying the front up

Finer, smoother textured hair
hair, seen by model Anja Rubik, can be a little more versatile to
style. Applying fat hair lotion, $35, by ghd, can plump hair and add long-lasting volume
with a medium hold, blasting dry to retain natural lift and a light spray with ultimate
hairspray, $35, by ghd, a flexible hairspray that is light-weight and not stiff providing a
shine and gloss to the hair without overburdening.
Remember: Short hair is fresh hair and colour looks amazing on hair that hasn’t been
dulled and damaged over time. There’s something so fun and risky about a short haircut.
So next time with your stylist try more intense and rich colours.
TOP TIP: The shorter you go, the more dramatic your features will look so make
sure your brows are given definition and groomed regularly.

Are You scratching For Answers on Head Lice?
While children are at school many families will have contact
with head lice.
Head lice are contagious and infect a large number of
children annually. When a case of head lice is detected the
person should be treated immediately.
What are Head Lice
Head lice are small, wingless, bloodsucking insects. Their
colour varies from whitish-brown to reddish brown – they have
six legs and grow to between 2.5cm to 3.5cm as an adult.
They can move from head to head without discrimination and
they do not prefer dirty or unkempt hair but may go unnoticed
and proliferate in such a host compared to one who pays
attention to their hair.
People become infested with head lice by direct hair-to-hair
contact. This can happen when playing, cuddling or working
closely together, sharing combs, brushes, ribbons hair bands,
hats, pillows and other similar personal items.
Finding Head Lice
An infestation of head lice may not be noticed initially, but with
time will produce irritation, leading to scratching of the scalp.
The detection of eggs on the hair shaft is the most common
method of identifying an infestation and it usually indicates the
lice have been established for some time.
Head lice are found on the hair shaft and move to the scalp
to feed. They have six legs, which end in a claw, and they
rarely fall from the head. The nits (eggs) are laid within 1.5cm
of the scalp and are firmly attached to the hair. They resemble
dandruff but can’t be pushed off. Lice can crawl and hide.
The most effective and easiest way to find Lice is to follow
these 5 simple steps:• Step 1 - Comb hair conditioner on dry, brushed detangled
hair. This stuns the lice and makes it difficult for them to grip
the hair or run around
• Step 2 - Comb sections of the hair with a fine tooth head
lice comb. Make sure you do the entire head.
• Step 3 - Wipe the conditioner from the comb onto paper
towel or tissue
• Step 4 – Look on the tissue and on the comb for lice or eggs
• Step 5 – Repeat step 2 combing every section four or five
times.
Treating Head lice
There is no permanent prevention for Head lice and it is
important that you check your child’s head regularly even
when you don’t think your child has head lice. Tying back long
hair can help prevent the spread of lice.
Concentrate on treating the head, as there is no evidence to
suggest you need to clean the whole house. Pillowcases and
bed linen should be washed in hot water as head lice are
easily killed by hot water greater than 60 degrees Celsius
however this temperature is too hot for washing hair. Head
lice products must be applied to the whole head and all the
hair.
REMEMBER – No treatment kills all of the eggs
So treatment must involve two applications seven (7) days
apart. The purpose of the first application is to kill all the lice
(live insects), the second application seven (7) days later is to
kill all the young head lice hatched in the past six (6) days.
People need to test if lice are dead and if they are dead,
treatment using the same product seven (7) days later is
recommended.
If the lice are not dead the treatment has not worked and the
head lice are resistant to the product and all products containing the same active compound. You will be required to buy a
treatment with a different lice range.
Any head lice product can cause a reaction and should be
used with care.
The life cycle of Head lice
(see diagram below)
1. Egg is laid on hair shaft (egg is called “nit”)
2. Louse emerges after 6-7 days (Louse is live insect)
3. First moult 2 days after hatching
4. Second moult 5 days after hatching
5. Third moult 10 days after hatching
6. Emerging from their third moult as adult lice, the female and
male (slightly smaller) begin reproducing
7. Female lays first egg 1 or 2 days after mating
8. Female lays approximately 3 to 8 eggs per day for the
next 16 days
9. Having lived 32-35 days the Louse dies.
So now the school year has started remember to check
regularly and complete the treatment schedule.
Often we hear people complain that they are doing the right
thing but others aren’t. Placing blame won’t achieve anything.
Instead of pointing the finger, help each other remember one
louse on one head can start the cycle all over.
