General Information about Parkview Baptist
History
FoundedbymembersofParkviewBaptistChurch,ParkviewBaptistSchoolwasincorporated
onJuly13,1981,undertheprovisionsofLouisiana’snonprofitcorporationlawforthepurpose
ofprovidingaChrist‐centerededucationforstudentsingradeskindergartenthrough12.PBS
beganwithstudentsingradeskindergartenthroughsixandlateraddedgrades7‐12.

ParkviewBaptistSchooladmitsstudentsofanyrace,color,nationality,orethnicorigintoall
rights,privileges,programs,andactivitiesgenerallyaccordedormadeavailabletostudentsat

Purpose and Principles of Parkview Baptist
EducationalGoals
ParkviewBaptistSchoolexistsbecausewebelievethatChristianparentsshouldhavethe
opportunitytogivetheirchildaqualityeducationbasedontheWordofGod.Ourschoolisa
ministryofParkviewBaptistChurchandseekstoreachthegreaterBatonRougecommunity
forChrist.
ParkviewBaptistSchoolteachesitsstudentsthroughabalancedcurriculumintheintellectual,
social,physical,andspiritualareas.Webelievethatman’sunderstandingofGod,himselfand
others,andhisrelationshipswithothers,areareflectionofthisbalance.
AtParkviewBaptistSchool,weemphasizeinschoollifeandinstudiesthepurposesofGod,
andweacknowledgethattheprimaryobjectiveofmanistoglorifyGodinallthings.Our
ultimateaimisthateachstudentwillknowJesusChristashispersonalSaviorandLord.
TheParkviewBaptistSchoolstudentisencouragedtoreachhisfullestpotentialinevery

MissionStatement
ThemissionofParkviewBaptistSchool,inpartnershipwiththechurchandcommunityisto
seekfirsttheKingdomofGodwhileprovidingstudentswithacollege‐preparatory,Christ‐
centerededucationthatallowsthemtogrowandmatureinwisdom,instature,andinfavor
withGodandman.
ChristianTrainingandChapel
StudentsaregiveninstructionsintheBible,andteachersincorporateBiblicalprinciplesinto
theirdailylessonplans.IngradesKindergartenthroughtwelve,Bibleisarequiredcourse.

Yearlygradelevelretreatsandserviceprojectsforgradesfivethroughtwelvearemandatory.
Chapelservicesareheldweekly,andallstudentsarerequiredtoattend.
Weencourageparentstofollowuptheseactivitieswithaquestionandanswersessionat
home.Thissessioncanserveasanextensionoftheclassroomandprovidethestudentswith
reinforcementinusingtheBible.
SchoolPhilosophy
ParkviewBaptistSchoolseekstoprovidetheopportunityforstudentstogrowintheir
understandingofGodandman,andtodeveloptheircapabilitiestothehighestdegree,inorder
thattheymaybecomematureandcompleteandlivelifetoitsfullestinChrist.Parkview’s
comprehensivecollege‐preparatoryprogramisdesignedforstudentstodevelopskillsand
attitudesthatwillwellequipthemnotonlyforcollege,butalsoforasuccessfullife,basedon
Christianprinciples.Studentsreceiveabalancedprogramprovidingthemwithstrong

StatementofFaith
1. WebelieveintheScripturesoftheOldandNewTestamentsasverballyinspiredbyGod
andinerrantintheoriginalwritings,andthattheyarethesupremeandfinalauthority
infaithandlife.
2. WebelievethatthereisoneGod,eternallyexistentinthreepersons:Father,Son,and
HolySpirit.
3. WebelieveinthedeityofourLordJesusChrist;inHisvirginbirth;inHissinlesslife;in
Hismiracles;inHisvicariousandatoningdeaththroughHisshedblood;inHisbodily
resurrection;inHisascensiontotherighthandoftheFather;andinHisimminent,
personal,bodily,visiblereturntoestablishHiskingdomonearthinpowerandglory.
4. WebelieveintheliteralaccountofcreationastaughtintheScriptures:thatmanwas
createdbyaspecial,immediate,andformativeactofGod;thathesinnedandthereby
incurrednotonlyphysicaldeathbutalsospiritualdeath,whichisseparationfromGod;
andthatallhumanbeingsarebornwithasinfulnature.
5. WebelievethattheLordJesusChristdiedforoursinsaccordingtotheScripturesasa
representativeandsubstitutesacrificeandroseagainforourjustification,andthatall
whobelieveinHimarejustifiedonthegroundsofHisshedbloodandaresavedby
gracethroughfaithwhollyapartfromhumanmeritandworks.
6. Webelieveinthebodilyresurrectionofthedead:thesavedtoalifeofeternalgloryin
Heavenandtheunsavedtoeternaldamnation.
7. WebelieveinthepresentministryoftheHolySpiritbywhoseindwellingtheChristian
isenabledtoliveagodlylife.
8. WebelievethattheprimarygoalofeveryChristianistoglorifythenameofJesusChrist

1. Teacher‐IsresponsibleforclassroomissuesandreportscertainissuestotheDivision
Head.
2. DivisionHead‐TheDivisionHeadshouldbecontactedifaparent/teacherconference
doesnotgivesatisfactoryresultsorifthematterisnotteacherrelated.
3. Superintendent‐TheSuperintendentshouldbecontactediftheconferencewiththe
DivisionHeaddoesnotgivesatisfactoryresultsorifthematterisnotrelatedtoteacheror
DivisionHead.Ifameetingispreferred,itisrecommendedthatonebescheduledaheadof
time.
4. SchoolBoard‐ThroughtheSuperintendent,theSchoolBoardwillreviewanyconstructive
suggestionsorcriticisms.TheseshouldbepresentedinwritingandaddressedtotheSchool
BoardPresidentthroughtheschoolSuperintendent’soffice.Theboardusuallymeetsoncea
monthandwillreviewallproperlysubmittedmatters.Awrittenreplyastohowthematterwas
handledcanbeexpected.Unsignedcorrespondencetoschoolpersonnelwillnotbe
consideredoraddressed.

Schoolpersonnelworkdiligentlytomaintainasafeandhealthfulenvironmentforallstudents.
Parentalcooperationwiththeschoolhealthandsafetypoliciesisnecessaryinordertoavoid
accidentsandproperlycareforstudents.
Surveillancecamerasareinstalledinbuildingsandschoolpropertytoassistinmonitoring
unauthorizedenteringofbuildingsand/orroomsandtomonitorhallways,etc.35
ImmunizationandHealthRecords
Astudentwillnotbeallowedtoregisterorenterschoolwithoutdocumentedproofof
requiredimmunizations.Immunizationrecordsaredueuponenrollment.This
documentationmustbefromthestudent’sprivatephysicianorCountyorParishHealthUnit.If
astudentcannottaketheseimmunizationsformedicalreasons,theschoolwillacceptasigned
statementfromthestudent’sprivatephysician.Aletterofdissentmaybepresentedandmust
besignedbytheparent/guardianinthepresenceoftheschoolDivisionHead.Studentswho
beginimmunizationsatalaterageshouldconsulttheirhealthcareproviderforanaccelerated
schedule.
Louisianalawrequiresdocumentedproofofimmunizationsforanychildenteringschoolfor
thefirsttime.Healthrecordsforallotherchildrenshouldindicatethattheimmunizationsare
completeorareinprogress.Ifachilddidnotreceiveimmunizationsattherecommendedages,
theyarestillrequiredtobeup‐to‐dateforschoolandcollege.Inaccordancewithstatelaws,
currentimmunizationrecordsmustbeonfileattheschool.TheStateHealthDepartment

auditsPBSimmunizationrecordsannuallytoensurecompliancewithstateregulations.In
ordertomaintainstudentenrollmentatPBS,parentsmustrespondpromptlytoinquiriesfrom
theschoolrelatingtotheserecords.Pleaseseepage69forimmunizationrequirements.
Sickness/Injuries
Intheinterestofeverychild’swell‐being,parentsarerequestedtokeeptheirchildhomewhen
he/sheissick.Ifachildhassymptomssuchaselevatedtemperature,rash,vomiting,excessive
nasaldischargeordiarrheayoumustkeepyourchildhome.Achildmustbefeverfreefor24
hourswithouttheuseoffeverreducingmedicationsbeforereturningtoschool.Ifyourchild
developssymptomsatschool,thestudentwillbeisolated,andtheparentswillbenotifiedto
pickupthechildassoonaspossible.Anyinjuryorillnessdecisiononremainingatschoolor
returningtoschoolisatthediscretionoftheschoolnurseand/orDivisionHead.
Theschoolnurseorotherschoolpersonnelwilladministerminorfirstaid.Seriousinjurieswill
receivefirstaidviaemergencyservicesofEmergencyMedicalTechniciansand/ortheEast
BatonRougeFireDepartment.Designatedfacultywithpropertrainingshallrenderfirstaid
treatment.Emergencymedicaltreatmentwillbesoughtforstudentswhosemedicalneeds
warrantsuchaction.PBShas4AEDsoncampus.
Part‐timeSchoolNurse
PBShasapart‐timenurseduringtheschoolhoursof11:00a.m.–3:00p.m.PBShasafull‐time
facultymemberthatiscertifiedasafirstresponder.
Counseling/CounselingServices
ThecounselingprogrampromotesandenhancesthelearningprocessinacaringChristian
atmosphere.Academic,college,career,andpersonal/socialdevelopmentissuesaremetwithin
aconfidentialcontext.Studentsareencouragedtoestablishgoals,expectations,support
systems,andpositivechoicesthatwillfosterskills,attitudesandknowledgeforrespectingself
andothers.Thecounselor’sdoorisopenforPBSparents,teachers,andstudents.Studentsin
grades7‐12gradesarenotrequiredtoreceiveparentalconsentforcounseling.Counseling
servicesprovidedbytheschoolcounselorarenotincludedinthestudents’academicrecord.
CrisisIntervention
ThementalhealthofourstudentsisanareaParkviewBaptistSchoolconsidersapriority.Ifa
studentexpressessuicidalideationoranintenttocommitsuicide,theparent/guardianwill
becontacted.Beforeastudentisallowedtoreturntoschoolhe/shemustbeaccessedbya
licensedcounselor,psychiatristorpsychologist.Toreturntoschool,astudentmustprovide
documentationfromtheassessorthatindicatesthestudentissafetoreturnanddoesnotpose
arisktothemselvesorothers.

Medication
AmedicalauthorizationformmustbefiledwiththeappropriateDivisionHead’sofficebefore
anymedicationmaybetakenatschool.Allmedicationsmustbekeptineachdivision’soffice.
Studentsmaynotbringtoschoolmedicationsofanytypeexceptthosethathaveafiled
medicalauthorizationform.Failuretocomplywiththispolicymayresultindisciplinaryaction.
ThedecisiontoadministercontrolledsubstancesatParkviewBaptistSchoolwillbemadein
consultationwiththemedicalprescriberandtheschooladministrationonaCASEBYCASE
BASIS(subjecttotheguidelinesestablishedinthemedicationdistributionpolicyadoptedby
theSchoolBoardon9/22/94).
Allergies
PBSisnotapeanutfreeortree‐nutfreeenvironment.Itisourpolicytoestablishmeasuresto
ensureasafeenvironmentforthestudentswithdifferentallergies,basedonindividualneeds.
However,PBSisnotconsideredanallergyfreeenvironment.
HeadLicePolicy
Studentsarecheckedrandomlyforheadlice.Ifliceornitsarefound,thestudentswillbe
isolated,andparentswillbenotifiedtopickuptheirchildassoonaspossible.Studentsneedto
betreatedandnitfreebeforetheywillbeallowedtoreturntoschool.Parentsareencouraged
toalwaysgivenoticetotheschoolintheeventthattheyfindheadliceornitsontheirchildat
home.Thiswillhelppreventthespreadofheadliceatschool.
EmergencyPhoneNumberofParentsRequired
Werequestthatatleastoneemergencyphonenumberbeonfileintheschooloffice.Parents
orguardiansshouldupdatephonenumbersinRenwebiftheychangeatanytime.
AthleticPhysicalExams
AthletesofallPBSteamsarerequiredtohaveanannualmedicalexamandsubmitthe
approvedmedicalformwiththeathleticpacketpriortoparticipationinschoolsports.
StudentAccidentInsurance
PBSprovidessupplementalschoolaccidentinsurance.Intheeventofaninjuryatschool,this
policyisdesignedtohelpcovermedicalcostnotcoveredbytheparent’smedicalinsurance
policy.
AccidentReports
Anyaccidentatschoolorataschoolfunction,resultinginaninjurywillbereportedbythe
school.ThesereportswillbesenttotheAdministrationOfficetokeeponfile.

Wheneverpossible,allmedicalanddentalappointmentsshouldbemadeoutsideofregular
schoolhours.
EmergencyNotificationProcedures(SchoolClosing,EarlyDismissal)
ParkviewBaptistSchoolwillgenerallyfollowemergencyclosingpolicyoftheEastBaton
RougeParishPublicSchoolSystem.Ifthelocalsuperintendentannouncesonradioor
televisionthatpublicschoolswillbeclosed,PBSwillprobablyalsoclose.Wesuggestthe
parent/guardianhaveanemergencyplantopickuptheirchildintheeventthatclosuretakes
placeduringschoolhours.ExceptionstotheEBRPSchoolSystemsclosingswillbepostedon
thePBSwebsiteandannouncedthroughthelocalmedia.Localtelevisionandradiostations
willcarrynewsofschoolclosings.Schooltextalertswillbeusedtonotifyparentsofschool
closings.

Wehaveupgradedourvisitorscanningsystem.Partofkeepingstudentsandfacultysafeis
knowingwhoisinourbuildingsatalltimes,andtheRaptorsystemwillallowustodojust
that.TheRaptorsystemwillbetterallowustotrackvisitors,contractors,andvolunteersin
ourschoolsandprovideuswithasaferenvironmentforourstudentsandstaff.
Uponenteringabuildingontheschool’scampus,visitorswillbeaskedtopresentavalid
state‐issuedID(driver’slicense,passport,etc),whichwillbescannedintothesystem.The
Raptorsystemwillchecktoensurethatregisteredsexualoffendersarenotenteringour
buildings.ItisimportanttonotethattheRaptorsystemonlyscansthevisitor'sname,dateof
birth,andphotoforcomparisonwithanationaldatabaseofregisteredsexoffenders.
Additionalvisitordatafromthedriver'slicenseisnotgatherednoristhesystemconnected
toanyothersystemsuchastheDepartmentofMotorVehicles.Thereforeanyother
informationontheIDisnotscannedbythesystemandisnotaccessibletoanyoftheusers.
Onceentryisapproved,Raptorwillissueabadgethatidentifiesthevisitor,thedate,andthe
purposeofhis/hervisit.

Avisitor’sbadgewillnotbenecessaryforthosewhovisitourschoolssimplytodropoffan
itemintheofficeorpickuppaperwork.However,wewillbescanningallothervisitorsand
parents,evenifyouarecomingtoeatlunchwithyourchildorvolunteerinaclassroom.
EveryoneonParkviewBaptistSchool’scampusshouldhaveaFacultyID,StudentID,or

printedRaptorVisitor/Volunteerbadge.Wearetrainingourfacultytostopanybodyon
campuswithoutabadgeandtodirectorescortthemtooneofthefourcheckinplaces.
PleasehelpusbyprovidingyourIDtooneofthesecheckinlocations.Onceyouhavescanned
yourdriver’slicenseonetimethisyear,youwillbeenteredintothesystemandwillnothave
toprovidealicenseeachtimeafterthat.Youwillstillstopatthecheckinlocation,enter
yourname,andthesystemwillrecallyourinformation.
Volunteers(roommoms,etc)thathavebeenenteredintothesystematthebeginningofthe
yearbyourConstituentRelationsCoordinatorwillbeabletogodirectlytothedivisionin
whichtheyareserving,entertheirnameatakiosk,andprinttheirVolunteerbadge.
Supervision(beforeandafterschool)
SupervisionisprovidedforstudentsingradesK‐6between7:30a.m.and3:45p.m.Foran
additionalfee,supervisionisalsoprovidedforstudentsingradesK‐6from6:30a.m.‐7:30
a.m.forearlydropoffs.Fortheprimarypurposeofthesafetyofstudents,itisimperativethat
thestudentsbedroppedoffandpickedupwithinthesetimesofsupervision.Anymiddle
schoolandelementarystudentremainingoncampusafterthehoursofsupervisionwillbe
senttoafter‐schoolsupervisionforanadditionaldailycost.Thereisnoafter‐school
supervisionforhighschoolstudents.Parentsshouldpickuptheirhighschoolchildby
3:30p.m.iftheyarenotinvolvedinanafterschoolextracurricularactivity.
Studentsmaybedroppedoffatschoolorpickedupafterschoolindesignatedareasonly.
Elementarystudentsmustbeattendedtowhencrossingparkinglots,roadsor
driveways.Thisprocedureisforthestudents’safety.Acarcannotbeparkedorleft
unattendedincarpoollanes.CarpoolmapsareprovidedonPBS’swebsite.
Elementaryparentstransportingcarpoolsarerequestedtoobtainacarpoolnumberfromthe
elementaryofficeandattachittotheautomobilewindoweachday.
EmergencyDrills
Statelawrequiresthatanemergencydrillbeconductedmonthlywiththeexecutionofthe
evacuationtimed.Analertwillsignalthedrill,andstudentsaretoproceedinaquiet,orderly
manner.Studentsaretoremainquietandfollowdirections,andalongwiththeirteachers,stay
intheirdesignatedareasuntilamemberoftheofficestaffinstructsthemtogotoanother
locationorreturntothebuilding.Fireextinguishersarelocatedinspecifiedareasaroundthe
school;however,studentsmayusethemonlyupontheinstructionofastaffmember.
AnannouncementovertheP.A.systemwillalertthepossibleapproachofatornadoor
damagingstormconditions.ParkviewBaptistSchoolstaffshouldfollowappropriate
procedures.

DisasterPlan
Adisasterisbydefinition“asuddenandextraordinarymisfortune,bringingwithitdestruction
oflifeorproperty.”Thus,theverynatureoftheoccurrencemakesitdifficulttoplanforin
advanceortocopewithwhenithappens.Therearenumerouseventsthatmightconstitutea
disasterforaschool.Therearenaturaldisasters,suchasahurricane,flood,tornado,or
lightning;thereareman‐madedisasters,suchasatomicattack,civilriot,orbombexplosion;
andtherearedisastersthatmaybeeithernaturalorman‐made,suchasafireoranexplosion.
Intheeventthatanyofthedisastersenumeratedshouldoccurduringnormalschoolhours,the
followinginstructionswillbeadheredto:
 Ifthebuildingmustbeevacuated,thefirealarmwillbesounded,andthefire‐drill
procedurewillbefollowed.
 Ifadisasterstrikesthatdoesnotrequireevacuationofschoolbuildings,students
outsideoftheirclassroomswillreturntoclassimmediatelyifitiswarrantedandallwill
awaitinstructionsthroughtheintercomsystem.Thestudentswillberequiredto
remainquietsothatverbalinstructionsmaybeheard.
 Intheeventthecampusistobeevacuated,students,facultyandstaffwillbe
transportedbybusestoourSafeHaven(IstroumaBaptistChurch,10500 SamRushing
Drive)tobepickedupbyfamilymembersordesignee.
EmergencyVehicles
StateandparishfireandemergencycodesmandatethatcarsNOTbeparkedandleft
unattendedinareasthatadjointhemainbuildinginordertoprovidemaximumspacefor
emergencyvehicles.Parentsarecautionednottoparkinunauthorizedareas.Carswhichare
illegallyparkedmaybesubjecttoticketing.
Visitors
Duringtheregularschooldayallvisitors(includingparents)mustreporttotheDivision’s
receptionlobbiesforidentificationandsecuritypurposes.Parentsshoulddropthingsofffor
theirstudentatthedivision’soffice.ParkviewBaptistmaintainsanelectroniccheckinsystem
attheAdmissionsOffice,WhiteHouse,CBuildingLobbyandMiddleSchoolLobby.
Transportation
ParkviewBaptistSchooldoesnotprovidebustransportationtoandfromschool.We
encourageparentstoform“carpools”.
StudentsRidinginPBSBuses
Studentsmaybetransportedtoevents,fieldtripsoractivitiesusingPBSbuses.Improper
behaviorinschoolvehicleswillnotbepermitted.Ourdriversneedtoconcentrateondriving
AGuidetoParkviewBaptistSchool–2015‐2016‐Page15
andshouldnotbedistractedbythemisbehaviorofstudents.Thosestudentswho,inthe
opinionofthedriver,misbehavewillbereferredtotheAdministrationforappropriateaction.
Student’sVehiclesandParking
AllstudentswhodrivetoschoolmustregistertheirvehicleswiththehighschoolDeanof
Students.Atthetimeofregistration,aparkingpermitwillbeissuedandmustbeaffixedtothe
bottomofthewindshieldonthedriver’ssideofthevehicle.Vehicleswillbechecked
periodicallyforproperidentification.Studentsmustparkinthedesignatedstudent/parking
areas.Allstudentsparkingareatthestudent’sownrisk.PBSassumesnoresponsibilityfor
lost,stolenitemsorproperty.Playingloudmusicordrivingvehicleswithaloudmuffleris
prohibited.
Parkinganddrivinginfractionsinclude,butarenotlimitedto:failuretofollowcampusspeed
limitsorcampusstopsigns,noparkingtag,parkinginthewrongzone,enteringandexiting
wrongareasduringcarpool,ornotfollowingflowofcarpool.Aticketmaybegivenbythe
policeofficertothoseparkinginahandicapspotwithoutpropertagorthoseparkinginafire
lane.Disciplinaryaction,includingbutnotlimitedtobeingbannedfromparkingonthe
school/churchproperty,willresultifthestudentdoesnotfollowthesafeandsimplerules.

MorningDrop‐OffandAfternoonPick‐Up
Parentswillbegivenspecificinstructionsregardingloadingandunloadingofstudentsbefore
andafterschool.Thedesignatedproceduremustbefollowedbyeveryonetoavoidaccidents.It
isimperativethatstudentsbedroppedoffandpickedupatthespecifiedtimestoprovidethe
highestlevelofsafety.

ParkviewBaptistSchoolcooperateswithlawenforcement.Whenlawenforcementcomeson
theParkviewBaptistSchoolcampustheinitialpointofcontactistheDirectorofEducational
OperationswhowillthennotifytheDivisionHeadorAssistant.
Ifastudentneedstobequestionedbylawenforcement,parents(guardians)willbenotifiedby
ParkviewBaptistSchooladministrationaslongastheparent(guardian)isnotthesuspectof
theinvestigation.QuestioningwillbedoneintheDirectorofEducationalOperationsoffice.
Theparent(guardian)isresponsiblefornotifyingParkviewBaptistSchoolofanycharges
and/orconvictionsthatareclassifiedasamisdemeanororafelony.Aconvictionofafelony
willresultinexpulsionfromParkviewBaptistSchool.
ParkviewBaptistSchoolwillfollowthedisciplinaryactionasdefinedintheParkviewBaptist
Schoolhandbookwhenastudentisconvictedofamisdemeanor.
AnyarrestedstudentmaynotreturntotheParkviewBaptistSchoolcampusuntil:

A“LostandFound”areawillbelocatedineachdivision(Elementary,MiddleSchool,andHigh
School)locatedinthemainoffice.Anystudentwhohaslostarticlesshouldcheckperiodically
forthosearticles.Anyarticlenotclaimedwillbedonatedtoaworthycauseorpermanently
discarded.Toreducetheaccumulationof“LostandFound”articles,weaskthateverystudent
havehis/hernameonallarticlesofclothingandotherbelongings.Theschoolassumesno
responsibilityforarticlesleftlyingaboutthebuildingorimproperlystored.
