November 2013

The
Letter From the Principal
November is truly a month of thanks. As God’s children we have so much
to be thankful for. In fact, God’s Word tells us to “give thanks in everything for
this is the will of God.” What a challenge and encouragement from God.
November also brings with it a reminder of the approaching holidays,
which begin with Thanksgiving. God has bestowed upon us many, bountiful
blessings. The greatest of which is the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.
Psalm 92:1 says, “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing
praises unto thy name, O most High:” Remember to give thanks to our Lord for
all that He is and all that He has done.
I especially want to say thank you to everyone who helped raise additional
money for the school through the World’s Finest Chocolate’s fundraiser. The
total number of candy bars sold was 28,428, which equates to a profit of
$12,500.00!!!!! Thank you so much for your labor and love!
I also want to thank you for helping with our Penny War. Because of you
we were able to raise more than $1,500.00, which opens 7 B.L.E.S.S. centers
in impoverished countries. These 7 B.L.E.S.S. centers will help more than 70
children learn the basics of reading and writing. And most importantly, these
children will hear about Jesus Christ and his sacrificial death and resurrection.
Update: There is a major change in the calendar of events for November.
The 1st-4th grade elementary music program date has been changed and will be
held on Tuesday, November 26th at 7pm. Please make a note of this change.
Invite your family and friends to the program, which I know will be a blessing
to you.
Thank you for participating in Spirit Week. It is always a blast! Keep
reading in the newsletter to see some of the fun and excitment of the week.

Thanking God for the “In Between” Moments of Life
God Is Always Working In Our Lives
In Between
Times
Several
years
ago, my family took
a trip to London,
England. We stayed
in a unique hotel
located in a restored
historical building.
As
we
headed
out one morning,
excited for another
day of sightseeing,
we got on the
elevator and pushed
the “down” button.
But
when
the
elevator descended, this normal morning changed
abruptly. It suddenly felt like we had stepped on the
Tower of Terror ride at Disneyland. We were jolted up
and down multiple times—ascending several levels,
then falling several levels to sudden stops. And, just
when we thought our ride was over, the rising, falling,
and jolting started again.
We spend our
days between a lot
of things: between
errands, between
appointments,
between
classes,
between here and
there,
coming
and going. And
throughout
our
lives,
we
find
ourselves in more
serious gaps: between relationships, jobs, ministry
assignments, and answered prayers. Yet, no matter
what “in-between” stage we’re in—whether it lasts five
minutes or five years—it’s easy to become discouraged
about the past or stressed about what the future holds.
Life is a series of “in between” moments. If we’re
always living for the next great thing or big moment,
we’ll miss what God wants for us right now.
After
several
moments, it finally
stopped for good, and
we found ourselves
trapped inside the
elevator for a lengthy
period of time before
being rescued. We
did the best we could to pass the long, hot, suffocating
moments in such a small space until my brothers
decided to pry the doors open to see where we were.
“Maybe the elevator stopped at a floor where we can
exit,” we thought. But, the doors opened to reveal just
the opposite: a concrete wall. We were between floors.
If we’re always living
for the next great
thing or big moment,
we’ll miss what God
wants for us right now.
Mind the Gap
There is a phrase used in the London underground
as a warning to passengers to practice caution while
crossing the gap between the train and the station
platform. The phrase is, “Mind the Gap.” It is repeated
on the intercom and written on the ground—a continual
reminder to pay attention!
In the busyness of our daily lives—as we jump from
one thing to another—perhaps even pushed and shoved
by others trying to get to their destinations—God calls
us to pay attention. He cautions us to purposefully
acknowledge His guidance in our steps, even when
those steps cause us to pass through “gaps.”
Sometimes, we can feel that our lives are like that
elevator: stuck—suspended between floors, surrounded
by concrete, with no hope in sight.
Kairos
The ancient Greek language had two words
for time: chronos and kairos. These two
words of time differentiated

Selections for the
Month of November
Psalm 119:10, “This book of the law shall not
depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate
therein day and night, that thou mayest observe
to do according to all that is written therein: for
then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and
then thou shalt have good success.”

Don’t rush through these times. Embrace them. They are
sacred. Psalm 37 provides insight on how to seize these
sacred moments.
Holiday Humor
1. Commit to spiritual growth—trust God. If you’re
in a holding pattern, trust that God has a purpose and
determine to grow as a result (Psalm 37:3).
2. Remember what is truly important—worship God.
Instead of looking for a way out, look to God. Dwell with
Him. Focus on Him. Delight in Him (Psalm 37:4).
3. Realize that timing is everything—wait on God.
Don’t push your way through the gap! Wait on God with
patience and anticipation (Psalm 37:7).
4. Advance God’s eternal purposes—serve God. Allow
the pause in your plans to increase your fervor to serve
God in perhaps unexpected capacities (Psalm 37:27).
5. Remember God’s blessings—thank Him (Psalm
37:25-26).
The Lord won’t forsake you! Dwell on His promises,
and thank Him for His provision. So, mind the gap!
Don’t rush through God-ordained pauses. Embrace the
opportunity for spiritual growth. And, thank Him for the
privilege of time spent in the “in between” moments in
life.
Thankful on Purpose
A little boy was asked to pray for
dinner. Before he bowed his head to
pray, he looked at the dish. Then,
closing his eyes he prayed, “Lord, I
don’t like the looks of it, but I’ll thank
you and eat it anyway.”
Giving Thanks for
the Meal
A visiting farmer stopped at a city
restaurant to eat lunch. When he
was served his food he bowed his
head and gave thanks to the Lord.
Some teenagers sitting at a nearby
table noticed the farmer’s prayer
and shouted, “Hey, pops, back where
you come from does everybody pray
before they eat?”
Their laughter was silenced when the
unmoved farmer answered, “No, the
hogs don’t.”

Spirit Week ReCap
Wow! EBA has spirit! Spirit Week was a hit
beyond words. Thank you so much for your
support and help during Spirit Week.
The Penny War was superb! Together, the
school brought in more than $1,500.00! This
money is going to help children in other
countries who would not have a change at
education or knowing Jesus Christ without
B.L.E.S.S. Thank you parents, family, and
friends. You are amazing! God bless you richly!

We are grateful to each school and student who helped support BLESS through prayers and giving. Each school
that raises $200 to open a BLESS Center for 20 students and submits it to the BLESS office no later than May 1, 2014,
is recognized at International Student Convention. Let us know how your students worked to raise money for BLESS.

We want to let you know of a great opportunity for you to help Elmwood Baptist Academy. Kroger/King Soopers
has partnered with EBA in a great money raising opportunity at no cost to you.
Simply purchase a pre-loaded $50.00 gift card from Elmwood for $50.00 and shop as you normally would. Keep
this card and continue using it every time you shop for groceries or fuel. Every time you load additional money on
the card, Elmwood received 5%.
For example, the day you purchase your card Elmwood received $2.50 (5% of $50.00). When you go to store and
buy $XXX.00 in groceries, ask the clerk to add what amount you desire to the card before they start to ring up your
order. Then, simply pay with the gift card. The next time you shop, simply follow this same pattern. You may add as
much money as you want to the card at any time.
Thank you for supporting Elmwood Baptist Church and Academy.
