18th Annual
June 18-20, 2010
Whipple City 1791-1809
In 1791 Job Whipple of Rhode Island, an enterprising
manufacturer, settled on the banks of the Batten Kill.
He built a new dam, a gristmill and a cotton-weaving factory.
The area was named for him and known as Whipple City until
it was incorporated as Union Village in 1809. The village was
renamed Greenwich in 1867.

Welcome!
Our annual Whipple City Festival has grown to be a community
“Rite of Spring”. Each year friends and family gather in our parks to
celebrate all that our community has to offer.
Start the weekend off with the parade celebrating “Olympic Sports”.
Try to guess which float will be recognized as the best float in each
category. Visit with friends & family, enjoy the entertainment, take
in the events, browse the craft vendor offerings and experience the
food. Those visiting the festival for the first time have the chance to
enjoy our beautiful community at its best.
So take it easy. Relax and enjoy all that Greenwich has to offer this
weekend: vibrant business districts, tree-lined streets, beautiful gardens,
historic buildings and scenic countryside.
We hope you enjoy the weekend.
The Greater Greenwich Chamber of Commerce, Inc.
The Festival was made possible by the work of this
group of dedicated volunteers:
Donna Blair, Mathew Baker, Cailie Currin, Matt Donnelly,
Christine Grogan, David Hall, Margaret Jones, Margaret Roberson,
Kathy Nichols-Tomkins, Suzanne Seay and Mary Ann Spiezio
A special thank you to our patrons:
