Staff worked hard to keep operational expenses in line and the year ended significantly better than was projected mid-way through the year and ahead of the board approved budget. Overall expenses increased 10% primarily due to changes related to minimum wage, unforeseen administrative expenses, and unexpected repairs to campus infrastructure. Revenues decreased less than 1% compared with 2013. For the year net assets rose slightly to $30,886,271. Total liabilities decreased from $1,517,656 at the end of 2013 to $1,444,023 at the end of 2014 with the biggest reductions coming from Accounts Payable and Lines of Credit. The stock and bond markets were destabilized by a number of events impacting almost every asset class. Increasing Treasury bond prices, a collapse in commodity prices, the largest Ebola outbreak in history, and Russia annexing Crimea were among the challenges faced in 2014. Through all of this the large cap US stock market continued its bull market run for a 5th year. Mid cap stocks and municipal bonds also performed very well, however most other asset classes had below average returns. Several asset classes, including most overseas investments, had negative returns for the year. Our well diversified endowment funds reflected this with a 3.41% net return for the board designated fund and 4.17% net return for the restricted endowment. Investment funds continue to have healthy growth and at a combined $9,051,580 are significantly higher than several years ago. 2014 Annual Fund giving was a high point for the year with $688,388 received along with an additional $174,523 in capital gifts. This allowed Silver Bay to subsidize various groups to experience Silver Bay at reduced prices, including the military and cancer program, as well as financial support for the Teen Center and other children’s programs. Total gifts to Silver Bay, including bequests, contributions to the Capital Campaign, and other gifts totaled $2,105,102. This is a clear testimony to the commitment of our membership toward Silver Bay YMCA of the Adirondacks. Whittemore, Dowen & Ricciardelli completed the 2014 audit and issued an unqualified opinion. We sincerely thank the many people who support Silver Bay in so many ways so generously every year.
