MONTHLY DIGEST
WHY WAIT?
A Babcock University Newsletter
‘Integrity is not a 90 percent thing or a 95 percent thing. You either
have it or you don’t.’
- Peter Scotese
We live in a fast-paced world. From instant noodles to drive
through cafes, everything is on fast track - heading towards a
precarious precipice. Still, few, if any, dare ask, “Where are
we going?”
Bombarded with TV ads and radio jingles promising immediate gratification and instant popularity within the click of a
button, a majority of the population seem to have simply lost
it or given in. Today’s youth are worst hit.
‘In a dangerous, fragmented society where there is no truth,
and right and wrong are interchangeable, teenagers feel
tossed about like a driftwood,” assert Josh McDowell and
Dick Day in their book - Why Wait? What You Need to Know
about the Teen Sexuality Crisis, adding, “They are saturated
with information, but told there are no real truths. They are
told they are the result of a cosmic accident, but (expected)
to think positively and feel good about themselves.’
Their argument is simply that youths are not getting it right
because there is not much out there to glean from. They insist, “It is not what parents preach; it’s what they do. All parents are role models. Modelling is not the question. The
question is what are they modelling?”

They hit the punch line thus: We can help youths bring
these raging emotions under the Lordship of Christ, not by
quotes and lectures, and a wheelbarrow of Christian literature, but by examples of God’s truth and marriages that last.
So, when Pastors Samuel Koranteng-Pipim and Roland
Nwosu spoke out their hearts at the last Week of Spiritual
Emphasis, they were not just fulfilling another BU tradition.
They were asking participants to refuse to settle for less - to
refuse to go for bronze when they can get gold.
The real issue is - what is your gold? This special
edition captures the golden moments of 2010.

SOCIALS
I’m still awaiting the different
events such as Departmental Weeks
and Fresher’s night lined up for this
semester which promises to be
“socially ignited”.

ALUMNI IN THE DIASPORA
ADVANCEMENT
It certainly seems Babcock is moving
ahead. What a bonus that is for the work of
the church in West Africa! These young
people need to be convinced that they can
contribute to God's work in their own
country, and not gravitate to other parts of
the world. We hope Babcock can be a
beacon
in
this
regard.

GRACE PROJECT
I had a couple of friends that benefitted
from the Grace Project International offering free optical check up. I pray God bless
their efforts as they keep up the good work.

NIGERIA INDEPENDENCE
The Naija @ 50 celebration was a blast!
Pastor Ojewole really did a great job as the
programme’s anchor. We appreciate that
and could do better in the future with some
innovations.
Ishola Funmilayo,
200 level Computer Science
A publication of Development & Strategy
Ochuko Sifo was really great in the recently concluded season of MTN project
fame. Hope he takes out time to come to
Babcock once again. I would really love
to meet him in person.
Dorothy Odusanya,
300 level, Banking and Finance
I didn’t know that the famous Ochuko
from Project fame is a graduate of Babcock. This means we have got very talented students in our midst. Please let’s
set up a programme for students to harness such talents.
Adeoye L. Adedoyin,
400 level, Accounting
