Georeference:
"Québec à dos de souris" uses 2 different types of projection to georeference its maps.
Universal Transverse Mercator UTM
Here is an interesting link covering the UTM projection:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transverse_Mercator_projection
The UTM system employs a series of sixty zones across the world, each zone is assign a number. Five zones cover up the
province of Quebec from West (zone 17) to East (zone 21). The unit of measurement is the metre.
Our maps of scale 1: 110 000 use the UTM system.
Modified Transverse Mercator MTM
This projection is an improved UTM projection. This system employs a series of zones numbered from East of the province
(zone 1) to West of the province (zone 10). Our maps of scale 1: 20 000 use this system.
When a georefence map is being shown on the screen, the X Y coordinates of the mouse pointer are shown in a window at the
bottom of the screen. The geographical coordinates "Latitude/Longitude" is expressed as " Degrés.decimal " (default
representation). The representation of the coordinates can be changed at any time by clicking in the coordinate window.
Letter "N" represents the latitude and the "-" sign represents the longitude.
The latitudes and longitudes coordinates could be represented as:
Degrees.decimal ( default )
Degrees Minutes.decimal
Dedrees Minutes Seconds.decimal
The UTM and MTM zones are always identified.
When either one of UTM or MTM coordinates system is selected;
letter "N" represents the latitude and letter "E" represents the longitude.
The values of the latitude and the longitude are calculated in meters according to the
involve zone.

Any change you make is automatically
