THE MARITIME MODELERS NEWSLETTER “THIS ISSUE SIZE IS 158 MB’S” WWW.MARITIMEMODELERS.COM GOD BLESS AMERICA ELECTRIC, STEAM AND SAIL “HAPPY JULY 4TH” 4 Spruce Via. Anaheim, California 92801 33.85165° North JULY – Y2K+12 VOLUME: 4 118.06176° West ISSUE: 41 2012-2014 SHIPS OFFICERS Captain/Newsletter Publisher: Executive Officer: Secretary: Treasurer: Bob Tiscareno Armando Leriget Gene Sauter Ron De Simone (562) 547-1488 (714) (626) 968-4856 N/A Maritime Modelers “JULY 2012 BOAT OF THE MONTH” Maritime Modelers is proud to announce this month’s selection for “Boat of the month”. This month’s honor goes to our member Jim Shultz for this imaginative, and creative design of the “Scrat Boat”. Last month or so, a mistake was made that the owner of this boat was Mark Weitzman”. When the actual owner was Jim Shultz. CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE MARITIME MODELERS JULY 2012 “BOAT OF THE MONTH” CONTINUED For those of you that do not watch too many cartoons. “Scrat” is the little sabre toothed squirrel that is always trying to collect nuts, sometimes through great bodily harm to himself and others in the animated movies “Ice Age”. The next animated cartoon in the series is to be released on the 13th of this month. Go see it. It will put a smile on your face. Shortly after these digital images (Pictured Below) were shot, Bob Tiscareno made Jim an offer to purchase this boat from him. As and you can see by the side by side digital images there were plenty of additions upgrades that were made to the boat. Those additions were: A fresh paint job, navigation lights, bollards front and rear, real glass windows, bumper rails, new push bars, ice and snow, a coffee cup made from a tooth-paste cap that was filled with brown paint to simulate fresh coffee a plastic strip to simulate a straw, a fire-extinguisher, two giant life rings, one exhaust pipe, and two donuts, one partially eaten modeled from model clay, and painted. “Sorry” no sprinkles, extra large exhaust pipe, and finally sound effects of “Scrat Noises and Sounds,”. Although the Boat now belongs to Bob Tiscareno, Jim deserves every bit of all the credit for coming up with the great theme for this project. I always enjoy seeing what else Jim can come up with. His boats are always a lot of fun to watch, drive, and photograph. I for one cannot wait to see what else his imagination can come up with. BEFORE AFTER Pictured Above Left; is the boat “Nuts To Tow”, when it was owned by member Jim Shultz, notice the character “Scrat” at the helm (White Arrow). Pictured Above Right; is the same boat, after Bob Tiscareno took ownership of the vessel. You can see many of the extensive modifications that were made to it after the owner transition. The newly remodeled boat will make it’s debut at the first meeting this month. Congratulations Jim…..Keep up the good work! 2 A MESSAGE FROM THE BRIDGE By: Captain Bob Tiscareno Hello Everyone, I hope that all of you are doing well and having a terrific time during this start of summer time. We have had great participation at our meetings, and it looks like we are getting at least 1-2 new members per month because of the web-site. To those individuals who have joined our club, we welcome you with open arms, and hope to see you again, and again. Excuse me for a second, I need to go check out something. I’m back! I needed to go to my computer, and see when the next regatta is scheduled for “The Inland Nautical Society”. To those of you that are new to this hobby, or have never been to a model boat regatta, you don’t know what you have been missing. Read more about the upcoming regatta that you will see in this issue of the newsletter. Last month, we held our 4rd or maybe 4th annual “BBG N BOATIN”. As always we had a great turn out of members, and even had some potential members. The food was great, but the friendship of our people was better than anything else. Please check with Ron De Simone or Robert Tiscareno to see when your dues are due to expire. Some people (ONE PERSON) thinks that he gets nothing for his money, and hasn’t paid dues in over four years, but still this person comes to our activities. What the dues are used for are the running expenses of the newsletter, web-site, and activities. Well, I think that’s enough for now! See you at the lake. Respectfully Yours…..Captain Robert (Bob) Tiscareno NEWSLETTER CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE, SO GO GET A CUP OF COFFEE, OR SODA!!!!! The decal pictured is approx. 16 inches diameter, and costs $38 including tax. A six inch decal is also available for $20, and available in several other colors. Contact Bob Tiscareno @ (562) 547-1488 or [email protected] to order yours. MARITIME MODELERS DVD’S ARE YES! STILL AVAILABLE FOR ONLY $15! There are only seven of these professionally made DVD’S left. I ordered twenty of them and Frank Milowicki and myself (Bob) have sold thirteen of them so far. I needed to pay for these in advance. As it says these are available for $15 each. It cost me $160.00 to order these, so in order for me to recoup my money, I must sell eleven of them. All other sales after that, all of the money collected after the eleven will go to the club’s treasury. That should be approximately $135.00 Please see (Bob Tiscareno) at the meeting’s to get your copy of this DVD, and help support your club. We appreciate your support. VISIT OUR CLUBS WEB-SITE! Pictured Above Left, Center, and Right; are a series of shots of new member Agnelo’s speedboat. This thing is really fast. So fast that it caught the eye of Bob Tiscareno who thinks his boat will beat Agnelo’s. The race will be held between the two water spouts that shoot up at the north and south points of the lake. Each boat will need to complete two laps, and the first to cross the finish line wins.
