Each year children and grandchildren of
the late Jane and Harold Scattergood
gather as a family to celebrate Christmas. In place of exchanging gifts, the
various families bring new or slightly
used books to donate to school libraries
in Philadelphia, through the Book
Bank’s Philadelphia READS program.
In all about 120 books have been donated.
There is no funding for classroom libraries. Either the classroom teacher buys
his/her own classroom’s library or the
children have nothing to read. These

It is with bittersweet hearts
that we announce that we
will no longer be processing
donations to Premananda
Orphanage.
The association with Jon
James, co-founder of Premananda Orphanage, has been
most beneficial to both the
Foundation and to the children of Ongole, India.
However, the board of trustees
Dr. Antonelli is an adjunct professor at St. Joseph’s University in
Philadelphia. She has been teaching for her entire professional career. Her
expertise in the educational field lends additional dimensions of knowledge
and experience to our board of trustees. Her previous experiences with
the Archdiocese of Philadelphia as Principal, Vice-Principal, and
Department Chair will augment the guidance and direction of our grantmaking.
Presently, she supervises both graduate and undergraduates of St. Joe’s
Teacher Education Department in their student-teaching experiences.
We are most proud to have her aboard!!!
